Yes Penthe, I have a vague memory of reading that somewhere, was it Tim Wossname (?) that wrote Italian Neighbours/Italian Education?

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:36

No, please direct me Franca, I am in deep.
Is there really someone called Bruno Giordano

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:36

really? are they bad? oh for once I was trying to get organised, I cooked 6 for dh and the kids. bollocks.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:39

god, of course. It is Paolo Giordano
living etc. I love it.
Why would you boil eggs in advance?

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:40

If you can chew them I would say they're edible.
I should be off to.

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:40

I am intrigued by the skiing reference!

What kind of Italian is it written in, though? I can manage crappo things like Da Vinci code, or Agatha Christie in translation; but have never got very far with Calvino...

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:43

Sputnik: I think it was Tobias Jones, The Dark Heart of Italy.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:44

Well Calvino is def not easy!

It is more complicated than an AC translation, I reckon. Let me know if you want it, I can send it over!

I'm off to bed too, Buonanotte!

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:45

Ok - thank you. I will check first that I can't buy it here in the foreign books section.

Notte tutte!

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:45

Thanks Franca.
Of course it would help if our budget was more than 55 euros.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:47

night night all

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:48

Maybe you're right Penthe, I have read that too.
Marcovaldo is one of Calvino's simpler and shorter books, short stories set in post-war Milan, absolutely brilliant.

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:50

I'd better be off too. Night

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 09:36

I remember reading marcovaldo in secondary school and not getting it at all. I must reread it now.

another idiot question. if I find things in dd2's poo that are exactly as they went in i.e. sweetcorn, mushroom, lentils does it means she cannot digest them and I should stop giving them to her? or what?

Penthesileia · 03/03/2009 09:40

I think that's normal at this stage: their digestive tracts are still maturing, so things are not fully - or even partially! - digested yet.

They don't really digest puree any better, it's just that because it's been mushed up before it's gone in, it is "hidden" in the poo rather better, I think.

I found a whole olive (pitted of course!) in DD's nappy the other day!

I think that the received wisdom is that they get some nourishment from them, so you may as well carry on; and besides, "food is for fun until they are one", so milk remains the primary form of nutrition anyway. Better, I think, that they are exposed to lots of tastes and textures, even if it comes out the other end unchanged!

Penthesileia · 03/03/2009 09:41

How were the eggs, btw?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 09:46

I didn;t know that food is mainly fun. I wonder if dd2, is then getting all she needs. she drink 16oz of milk per day morning and aft. sometimes a 4oz in the evening but not always. eats a lot though.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 03/03/2009 09:47

think it's normal pippi, I remember most of veg with skin, like peas, beans and sweetcorn came out whole.... probably the rest comes out the way it went in too, but as there is no skin to contain you can't see

Penthesileia · 03/03/2009 09:51

Sorry - not trying to make you worry or anything! I'm sure you're doing everything just fine!!!

I've just read (on here and in RL) that milk (breastmilk or formula) ought to be the main source of nutrition and calories until 12 months, and not to worry too much about how much solid food they're eating.

I'm bfing DD, so I don't know how much (oz-wise) she is consuming, so I can't advise you on the amount - you could post on weaning or breast/bottle feeding for more advice.

Actually, I think I read somewhere that it should be about a pint of milk a day - which is 20 imperial fl oz, so your DD sounds like she's doing fine!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 10:01

you always go through this spells were you think you're doing everything wrong, don;t you? I'm sure she should get a little more milk. I'll try to improve.

btw while I was writing the last post dd2 crawled for the first time from one side of the room to the other!
that's the end of peace. must teach her how to tackle a step as there's a big one on our livingroom/kitchen.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 10:02

these

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 10:04

dh took his two to work. will see if he's all right.

I normally do not cook them in dvance btw I was just preparing them for dh's lunch and thought I'll boil a few more for the kids tomorrow. don;t make dh's lunch either btw, only left overs.

Penthesileia · 03/03/2009 10:07

Wow! Well done DD2!!!!

DD is still resolutely not crawling, thank god. I live in terror of a more mobile DD. She can roll enough already, thank you very much...

LOL @ Stepford!!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/03/2009 10:16

I'm happy because at lest she can take herself places rather than wanting me to do it for her. On the other hand I'll have to have a 1000 eyes and remember to close the door to the stairs, get gates, watch the step etc. so basically no more MN for me! off to bake lemon drizzle again and chock version too for dd1's friend who's broken leg.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 03/03/2009 10:18

well done! but yes, end of peace

oh, have to go to big PO for passport but i'm so tired and a bit fluey....need to wait for postman first for legalised cert... what a pain this all business is!
