oh interesting about your mum, i meant to say to franca.
it is clearly all about me, me, me!

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:16

nighty ragazze, a presto.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:16

penthe although I am a big fan of graphic novel I was not familiar at all with this one. havent started it yet so cannot give you a personal opinion or expl but here it is

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:16

franca, yes, the KW one

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:16

Sleep breeds sleep, definitely.

Gagging? Well, she gagged for the first few weeks, but she doesn't any more at all. It's quite different from choking.

I did a first aid course, though, when she was a few months old, so that I would be able to deal with it if she really choked.

Maybe send your DP on a course, so he feels he knows what to do if necessary?

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:17

Ah that is interesting JB. My mother has always been a huge presencein my life. Too much. As a teen I wanted an absent mother. A cool one with a full time job, like my friends mothers. Teens are ungrateful, I suppose.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:22

Oh Penthe, I have just read a short book: "Nessuno mai ci chiese. La vita del partigiano Armando Gasiani deportato a Mauthausen". A fantastic insight into the lives of contadini in Emilia during the war and a terrible account of the few months he spent in the concentration camp.

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:22

God, I can't keep up here, too much RL lately.

  1. chuck the sleep books
  2. leeks are really good in a flan, with eggs and white sauce/cream 3)yes children are beautiful and should be told. Has anyone noticed how much Italians use the word "bello/a"? "Nice" does not even come close, so I am sort of with Gio.
  3. Im reading Woman on the Edge of Time and really enjoying it. Persepolis sounds interesting. By the time I have posted this you'll be discussing something else.
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:25

I am more obsessed, or I was a few years back with WW1. I read lots about both but for some reason that one touched me a lot. I want to go to flanders. I am sure I'll cry. when pg with dd1 I took dh to see a play about ww1 (don't remember the title now) and on the last scene when they get bombed out/in their trenches a sobbed for england. poor dd1 must have be deafened or terrified it was so loud. dh was .

do not remember my mum being anxious. donlt think she was. I think she made a conscious decision of not being because her parents were and she suffered. she always slept while I was out all night clubbing and let me do pretty much what I wanted. even got me a motorino.

re BLW I had to give in as dd2 is desperate to do everything herself. luckily is not pappine or mashy things so it's a case of a million cheerios on the floor, or chicken bits, carrots anything. never mind. she can even feed herself with a fork. on the other hand though her sister is constantly winging' mamma tu fai please'... she is a born queen.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:25

Sputnik, how very dare you having a rl ?

Lol at chuck the sleep books. Have I ever told you of a very naive (ignorant) franca buying "the contented baby weaning book"? It was in 2002. I had a panic attack while reading it.

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:25

Hi Sputnik!

That sounds good. I should read more (anything! ) in Italian...

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:27

LOL @ franca & weaning book! LOL!!!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:27

sputnik yes you are right even dh uses bellissimo/a a lot.

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:29

I read while bf and putting kds/myself to sleep. I get through quite a lot that way. Both my babies were enormous in the first 6 months because any excuse was good to go off and lie down and read for 40 minutes while feeding them!

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:29

and its converse: brutto - is widely used.

I read a book (can't remember title) which remarked on this Italian used of beautiful/ugly to cover so many aspects of life.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:30

lol Sputnik, you know you can't have RL with MN!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:30

nice talking to you all I'm off to bed. dd1 is talking on her sleep... hope she does nt wake up again.

btw dh and I forgot we were boiling some eggs so they boiled for a good hour ... can we eat them?

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:30

I read the whole "I love shopping" saga while breast feeding. Too sleep deprived to read anything else. And Minette Walters

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:30

Who wrote Numeri Primi? I am trying to find it, but there are a number of titles... Thank you!

Sputnik · 02/03/2009 22:32

I have also neglected MN a bit recently, in favour of fantasy-furnishing our new house here
It's addictive.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:32

Yes, tis true about the use of brutto (usually for cattivo) and bello.

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:32

Notte, Pippi. Not sure about the eggs - crack one open and see!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:33

guess all the potential bad bugs are definetly deceased then pippi!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:34

Sputnik you are evil . Have I directed you already to the website of Living Etc?

Bruno Giordano? Do you want numeri primi? I can send it to you

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:34
