Sick. No doubt.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 21:54

No, I've never watched the programs you mentioned Penthe!
But I can make you a list of all the funny progs I loved in the UK like this

Pippi, I totally have the same opinion on numeri primi.

None, I'm not going to get pg.

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 21:55

i am anxious, but not with the kids. anxious about funny things, like what to do with the porri thing..
i am probably transferring the anxiety i really have on the kids on the porri.

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 21:56

LOL @ Pippi's DD being more responsible. Cute!

Well, I think they're good dancers.

I am reading I married a Communist, Philip Roth.

And Searching for Schindler, Thomas Kenneally

And Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 21:58

javier 'i actually called brandon the other day' che??? non capisco.

I used to read a lot. I read an interview with someone once that was reading 30 books a month or smthnig and I was doing almost the same - mind you I was all alone (with a rl life too though). since dd not as much as I'd like - actually no not a lot, which is sad. problem is I like reading in the evening, say after 10pm for a couple of hours. dh goes to bed early because wakes up very early, so sometimes it's either seeing him or reading.

I read persepolis so fast. I loved it. my friend gave me 'watchmen' the otherday. must start it soon.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 21:58

I was anxious maybe, but probably because I was prone to fainting- low blood pressure/sugars, though probably trigger by emotional stress too, boh... actually, been a lot better since DS...

god, there's always the prof you want to like you, but that has le sue preferite lecchine, and no matter how much better you are then them, how hard you work, they'll never mark you fairly.. very depressing...

I love porry... you can make risotto too, yummy, or baked covered with besciamella

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 21:59

I loved Smack the Pony!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:00

I'm reading John Banville Christine Falls, but in Italian as I bought it the other day on the spur of the moment.

I was very anxious and apprehensive, I still am.

I remember that when my mother took me to ballet classes (I was around 8) I knew that she would go for a walk while I was in (the ballet school was bang in the centre of Milan, so my mum would go window shopping) and I got fits of panic, thinking she would have an accident...

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:00

lol at healthy sleep habits! can you summarize please?

damon, can you remember if your dd when she started doing the nights could manage with 2 naps a day? dd has one at 930 till 10, then 11.30 to 2 - and normally a little kip around 4 of 15 minutes.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:02

LOL at transferring the anxiety i really have on the kids on the porri. probably I am now imaginign your kids with porri head. why??

What do you think of married a communist?

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:03

oh franca! so sweet the ballet story. I am now going to go to bed with this sad story.
I read as soon as i am alone, but the net distracts me....
sunflower are you saying that the dcs have lessen your stress?

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:04

yes sunflower, rosa suggested bake too.

my dcs with porri heads! lol, lol.

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:05

Well, helpfully it's all about making sure your child gets enough sleep, and basically doing everything in your power to achieve that, even if you have to sacrifice your life in the short term. He puts most problems down to overtiredness.

Sounds like your DD is already doing what the guy thinks she should: e.g. 3 naps during the day. The third nap is usually dropped naturally after 9 months, he thinks.

I liked Banville's The Untouchable.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:06

I'm reading Baby-led Weaning . I have a book on my comodino, s.thing to do with India, I've had to read the first 3 chapters 3 times now as I keep on forgetting what goes on as I read once a month or s.thing! I used to read a lot too pre-DS, then read a lot on train/lunch break, but now... bought the reader, then s.thing else as I could have it for 2.99 on promo, no idea what and have a stack of other books I keep on buying but not finding time to read. I like reading in bed, but if DP's there I can't as he can't sleep with light on..

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:06

yep, what did you think of this roth?

Tried to read a Banville, maybe The sea, absolutely awful, started very beautifully then you realized that the characters were very flat and you felt nothing for them.
Right i am leaving you to read!

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:07

Pippi - I'm liking it so far - only read 70 pages or so. But I'm a big Roth fan, so would read his shopping list, probably.

Isn't it a poorly disguised rant against his former wife, Claire Bloom? Must google...

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:08

I must say Sunflower that I managed to win the prof over at the end . Lots of hard work (I excelled in the analisi del periodo etc) and stomach ache though...

Lol at transferring your anxieties on the porri. lol lol lol.

It is interesting what you say re your mother Javier. I actually think mine helped with my being anxious and not that confident for being too protective... (and therefore controlling)

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 22:08

warning! this might be upsetting for some of the audience. (luckily bs is away). My dd2 has slept 7 to 7 since ever and she has always had, even now, two good naps: 9.30ish to 11.30ish and 2ish to 3.30ish. sorry.

my theory is that she is awake in the night doing or thinking her own things and we don't know. that or she is a sleepy head like her dad

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:09

overtiredness is awful. dd didn't have her little kip around 4pm, and i though well she is ready to drop it and it might stop the 5am wailing. Except by 6pm she was screaming and looking at me in rage. She looked so beautiful (sviolinata...).

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:11

I've read BLW . It's quite nice, actually - a "just leave them to it" type approach, which I like.

I read a huge amount before DD, and also read lots the first few months of her life, while I was bf-ing and she was calm, sleepy and still while doing so. Now she barely keeps still for a moment, and when she does, I MN . Should read more. I love it. But, weirdly, it feels too "hard" when I'm tired, and MN-ing takes less energy. Don't know why.

Pippi - can you tell me what Watchmen is about please? The trailer on tv is driving me insane!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:11

sounds like DS, damon... guess that's why DD is so much more difficult, with her short naps... saying that, she doing 11-12 hours most nights now, but day... she was good though today, hopefully it's getting better

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 22:12

I think it is more difficult to have time to read when you have under 3s. It is getting better now, I always reading before going to bed.
Sunflower is "the reader" the book that inspired the movie with K. Winslet? I want to see it, but then I'm obsessed by ww2 and the holocaust/partisans/etc etc.

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 22:13

i think the theory is that the more they sleep the more they sleep.

interesting about my mum. i bloody wish she had been more controlling. no she was neglectful. But i am not bitter . I am trying to find the right balance with dcs. I think i am achieving actually.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 22:13

penthe, how do you get over the gagging though? I'm not too bad but DP is in constant cold sweat..

I know, I could be reading, but as you say MN is so much easier at this time

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 22:14

Me too, franca!!! I have a huge library of that sort of thing; and I do a lot of my research around that period!

Didn't like The Reader. Found its moral ambivalence a bit difficult to swallow.
