oh, i wished we live closer to each other!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 14:12

Have just texted the Brange

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 14:27

she's ok, just busy with rl .

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 14:34

i think it is always a good sign when people are away from the net, she must be getting so much stuff done. Franca can you give a peek to the recipes and tell me if they are allright or awful?
it's spring here, unbelievable. got the washing out!

gio71 · 02/03/2009 14:35

hi Franca, yes I find Italians praise and hug and kiss and use terms of endearment with their children notably more than the Brits. Or perhaps I just have harsh friends in the UK . Or perhaps I am still smarting after finding a pub restaurant in my local town the other week saying "no dogs or children" on a notice on the door and so am feeling anti my native land

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 14:44

i find italians shout at their kids a lot actually, and don't give them a lot of praise. Havng sai that i am talking about southern italy. not much they praise them a lot, i find them quite harsh.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 14:44

Javier, yes, recipes are totally fine. I also add a bit of grated ginger to the usual potato and leek soup. It's going to be delicious.

I'm glad to hear this Gio. Yes, I think Italians are very much affettuosi with their children, but can also be quite rough. at the pub's sign! However, I don't find Italy more child friendly than England. I think in England there is more respect for childhood, at least from the institutions, iyswim.... Or do I have rose tinted glasses? I'm never happy, no matter where I live . I'm a huge PITA!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 16:57

well, rosa, if you ever pop into London, I'm happy for you to try mine

pippi, I'm getting it mainly for the plane - I find that pushchairs are a pain in airports, as you normally need them as you get off the plane, when kids are sleepy and overtired, but I think I was given the pushchair off the plane twice in 4 years! DS is a good walker and he has his trunky... and I seem to make babies who don't like pushchairs unless fast asleep

went in the office today as I was meeting friend for lunch so he could countersign passport form... I'm so tired now... need an early night tonight, couldn't sleep well last night, typical, when DD sleeps through, I can't...

gio, when driving through richmond with some friends in search for a nice pub, many moons ago, I was a bit at the opposite sign "Children Welcome" - I couldn't get it, why would there be the need for such a sign, til I saw one like the one in your pub.... but you shouldn't mention it on MN, it seems to be another hot topic

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 17:05

Lol at children welcome

I never had problems with buggies and planes in the past, but I now keep hearing of people being refused to take the buggy fino alla scaletta etc. A friend of mine flew to paris in October with Airfrance and had to send the buggy with her luggage . I wonder why.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 17:23

ufff, really need to get up and do s.thing before DP gets back... I've basically done nothing today a part from transferring wet washing in the dryer as I had no time/vogli of hanging it this morning... haven't even cleared the placemats from breakfast , really no need to now, as it's nearly supper time , but I should at least empty the dishwasher as the sink is overflowing! right have to go

so nice, it's neary 5.30 and still light!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 17:26

Unloading the dishwasher is an activity I loathe.
You'd be proud of me Sun, I did 2 loads of washing. My laundry basket is still full though.
I should start cooking the dinner as well

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 17:39

what I loathe is unloading the dishwasher.

cemetery visit was `a success!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 02/03/2009 17:49

sorry I was trying to do so many things at the same time and did not read properly. will come back later.

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 18:59

thank you rosa and franca for recipe advice..now let me find that famous lemon drizzle cake, yum, yum.

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 20:53

I'm feeling a bit sick. I just hope I didn't catch the vomity bug somewhere

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 20:56

Eeeeek... Hope not... Has someone you know had it?

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 20:59

Vis-a-vis children in pubs: I was recently kicked out of All Bar One because DD is under 18. I kid you not. As I was being escorted to the door by the barman, I pointed out that she was unlikely to be necking pints and binge drinking, if that was what they were worried about!

Seriously, though - it's madness. I could understand at night-time people don't want to be bothered by a baby; but during the day, when the place is mostly empty anyway? Pathetic!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 21:03

Penthe! Silly rules. And btw I can't really empathize with people who don't want to disturbed by "babies" in restaurants etc... ... what do they care? It is not as if they are asked to babysit

Don't know. My dear friend's 2 yr old dd had it. But I saw her on thursday. Would the virus take so many days to reach my poor digestive system?

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 21:06

I think Noro has a 48 hour incubation period. So, I would've thought you'd have come down with it by now, if it was that. It is highly contagious, so if you got it, you got it, IYSWIM.

What have you eaten & drunk today?

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 21:14

People in the UK, don't know if you've already seen it, but this and this have had me in stitches today!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 21:15

unfortunately DD woke up as I started the (loathed too) job of unloading the dishwasher so DP ended up finishing it

Penthe, went to visit some friends when I was pg with DS, she was pg too plus other friends were there with 7 mo. went for pub lunch (not busy as it was quite late for lunch) but we had to eat outside as we had a baby with us... was a bit chilly, but we were starving, at least it wasn't raining!

and when looking for a B&B in the seaside last year for a weekend, kept on finding places available where it said "no children, animals welcome" I mean, if you really want a noise-free zone (as that was their aim), than you wouldn't have animals either, would you

franca, hope you're bug-free...

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/03/2009 21:19

I watched the keith & paddy one on sat, just brilliant!

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2009 21:20

Youtube tells me that the videos are not available in my country? WTF?

Ciao sunflower!

Boh, haven't eaten/drunk anything unusual. A piadina with parma ham and stracchino and salad for lunch. I felt a bit bleurgh by dinner time and only had a bit of salmon and cous cous. Un dito di vino bianco.
Boh, I don't want to have a bug! Bil had it last week and was sick for days (worried emoticon)

javierbardem · 02/03/2009 21:21

i would have gone with a rottweiler....

Penthesileia · 02/03/2009 21:23

Oh no - they're from the beeb - so maybe not available. Booo. They are spoof versions of famous dance routines. And they are hilariously funny. Sorry you can't see them.
