hello all!

Me and my DS (9 months)are new to this modelling game and we joined B&B a couple of weeks ago. we went to our 1st casting yesterday and it was a bit of a nightmare! DS is normally a really cheeky chappy who loves posing for the camera !but because they were running half an hour late by the time we were seen he was getting fed up and wasnt smiley for the camera at all!! I found it all a bit frustrating as I know what he is normally like and found myself saying " oh hes normally really jolly and smiley and loves the camera" but im sure they probably didnt believe me as i think i over compensated (as i was a bit nervous too!)and think he wont get it now if they think he inst a 'naturally smiley' baby!! What do you ladies experienced in this 'casting going' find, do you think that the clients are looking for babies who smile easily and if they dont on a paticular day do they tend to think 'no thanks'!! I have no idea what they are looking for being new to all this! Also do you find that they understand about babies getting tired if its nap time etc etc or do they expectthem to be on top form when they see them?! I have rambled on a bit - sorry! Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!xx

Luce2006 · 31/07/2009 16:37

Altin , I don't think that if KL, B&B and UA can't find work for your child then no other agency can! My ds was with UA for a year and only got 1 casting. WE left them at the beginning of May and joined another agency,a new one. Since then we had quite few castings and pencils

tjandluca · 31/07/2009 19:33

Hi Ladies,

New to this and after a bit of advice really. My DS (3) and DD (6 months) have both been accepted by ES and offered interviews by TS and Bonnie & Betty (my DD was accepted straight off by BoBe as she's a baby) - they were both turned down by B&B and KL.

I've only got another couple of weeks until ES's offer runs out and the TS interview isn't until late September.

My gut instinct is to go for BoBe as a)They have a great looking website, b) Sound like they have a sensible approach with low web fees, no fees for the interview and professional photo requirements for my DS only. c) I like the fact that they are new as they have something to prove and are likely to work harder.

ES has very high fees, especially as I have two, plus their website looks a bit dated. However, I know that they are well established and have a great reputation.

I don't see much said about TS but again, their fees are high.

Do you think I'm making the right decision? I'm wary that BoBe's success isn't yet proven - has anyone had any castings with them yet? Were you happy with the photos their photographer took? They say they're very selective but are they just taking everyone on to bolster their books while they're new?

As KL and B&B didn't take them, do you think my kids' look isn't 'current' and 'edgy' enough to get work (they look alike and have a typical big blue eyes, blonde hair look).

Sorry it's long but I want to make the right decision for my kids.

Thanks
TJ

Housemum · 01/08/2009 00:16

Only FlipFlops - castings are harsh - they are just a snapshot of time, but they get easier as the kids get older. They will pick a child who has the look they want and who looks right in the picture they have taken, so with babies it's always 50-50 whether yours will "perform" for the casting. I was lucky with DD2 and the first 3 castings she did she was picked for, but then she went through a phase where you could never predict what she would be like. DD2 has not been as successful with castings but it's getting better (now 18 months). So don't give up, but do be prepared that they will almost always run late, and if you find a small toy that makes your DS laugh/smile, keep it hidden and take it to the casting to wave next to the camera (so long as it's not so exciting tha he crawls to you to get it!)

Luce2006 · 01/08/2009 10:10

tjandluca: have you tried Cheeky Monkey Models?

That's the agency my DS is with now.
The owner is really nice and she was a casting director ( still does it freelance) and has loads of contacts. She doesn't charge a fee so she needs to work extra hard

OnlyFlipFlopsFit · 01/08/2009 19:04

Housemum thankyou so much for taking the time to reply to me! I was starting to think maybe we wont bother again but after your advice i think we will try again if we get called with any more castings! Will be more prepared for lateness too! I know the agencies say they will contact you if sucessfull but would you ever contact them or just gennerally keep intough if you dont hear from them for a while or does that just work the other way in irritating them?! Oh so many questions...just not sure what you should or shouldn't do!! Thanks again housemum - will let you know if we have any success in future! .xx

Housemum · 01/08/2009 22:48

The agency (we're with B&B) have always said that we'll only hear if successful, so I don't call if I've heard nothing. Even if you are successful, you may not hear until the day before the shoot (if a casting has gone well, I just don't make any firm plans that can't be cancelled/changed for that date in case)

With younger babies/toddlers, e-mail a clear picture of your DS every 4 - 6 weeks (head shot, no hat), with a note of current height (only approx as hard to measure!), any new teeth, shoe size if in shoes and clothes size (the size that fits nicely rather than the size you'd go out and buy if you know what I mean).

I feel like an old pro at this now I'm going through it with DD3, we've been doing it for 6 years now!

retrodolly · 03/08/2009 15:32

Hello all,
Has anybody worked with the Childsplay Agency?

I'm new to child modelling, DD (18 mths) just got a response from them. They want £25 for a test shoot. I assume not including the agency's fees.

Is that normal?

Thanks!

AmyW13 · 03/08/2009 15:46

OnlyFlipFlopsFit,

Pop over to Netmums coffe house as they have a consistent chat about modelling. Read the last 10 pages for some great info.

Anyone going to the Dettol casting on Wednesday? We've just a call from Dione at Cheeky Monkey about it

nickala · 05/08/2009 20:21

Hi, my daughter is with es and i have to say i think they are brilliant. However, my sister is about to register with Allsorts - i have never heard of them, has anyone on here heard of them? They want her to pay £40 reg fee and £60 for the photos then a further £150 that will be deducted from my nieces earnings? I have not had to worry about this kind of stuff before as i know with ES we are 100% safe. I am little worried about Allsorts and i cant find anything about them on the internet good or bad. They are not on the Alba Modelling list - does this matter. I am sure that agencys like KL are not on there either but i know they are a reputable agency. If anyone can help out we would be very very grateful.

MABS · 18/08/2009 19:57

anyone do a casting for Littlewoods today?

staydreamer · 19/08/2009 15:13

we were supposed to go LW today but ds was ill. we had E45 casting yesterday.

OnlyFlipFlopsFit · 25/08/2009 15:48

AmyW13, thanks so much for your advice. I tried to look on that coffehouse chat at net mums but the link didnt seem to work. Thanks to you and housemum though we have given it another go and have done a couple more castings the last 2 weeks, both of which were nothing like the 1st one. They were both a lot more organised, and i think because i was more relaxed about things, so was ds!!We havent heard anything back yet, and as much as it would be so great if he got it, if im honest I am not as frantic as i was after the first one due to the fact that because ds had a fun time and it was a bit of an adventure, it doesnt matter either way! I just felt so dreadfull after that first one of making him do something he clearly didnt want to be at or doing due to him being tired, hungry and generally fed up!! Anyway, we will see what happens - just wanted to say thanks again and give you an update! Think we will carry on for as long as he seems to like going! xx PS - has anyone found that they have gone to casting after casting and NEVER got a job? Do the agency advise you its maybe not worth continuing or do they just keep sending you to castings anyway? x

mummmmmmmm · 27/08/2009 08:22

hi everyone my daughter who's 6 wanted to start doing modelling so i sent a couple of piccies off to a couple of model agencies

puffling · 29/08/2009 11:10

Hi. We're with UAN and have had one job, no castings this year. Shall we gamble and leave the? Any experience of PHA or other northern agencies?

minicorrect · 31/08/2009 11:12

Hi. Looking for some advice from all you pros!

Went to TS open morning thing at start of July. They seemed very impressed with DD (she was 4 mo at the time) and said to ignore everything that had been said about photography sessions in October, etc and that they'd call to move things forward in the next couple of weeks.

I left it a month and didn't hear anything so called them again and was told they would be waiting for the signed form and cheque before anything else happened. So I sent that in and got a letter confirming the date for the photoshoot in October for another £80.

Rang again to query and they said that it's only at certain times of the year they forego the photoshoot for babies, but I could always call back to speak to the manager to clarify.

We are just buying a car and a house so really don't have a penny more to spare so another £80 is just too much right now. What should I do? Starting to think I've been conned and feeling pretty fed up really.
