Happy New Year !
I hope this thread will re-start what was always great modelling chat on this forum..
Here's hoping 2009 brings lots of castings and jobs for everyone !

OP posts:
HollyBunda · 15/07/2009 16:43

well, yes, if you've signed a contract with a sole agency.

xtracex · 15/07/2009 21:30

Hollybunda

I know not all parents are like that but I have seen parents like that myself, take BGT, that poor little Holly, if I had been her mother she would have been taken off the first sign of distress, that was pretty heartwrenching to watch. My saying that I was feeling abit lost was proberbly a bad choice of words on my part coz I certainly didnt mean that I wanted jess to do this to make me feel better. Anyway, moving on lol, She has a photo shoot with EK nxt friday so just want to see how she gets on, with her only being 5 the only thing shes been told is she going have her pictures taken and she is very excited, so just have to see how she fairs with a stranger taking her pic, which brings me to my next question, do you have to be in the room when they do the pics or can you wait outside ??? The reason I ask is jess is far more co-operative if im not there ( dont know if there are other kids like this). xx

julie4travel · 16/07/2009 09:39

hi
saw this which may interest people who arent with an agency:

sunbeams.thesun.co.uk/index.php

julie4travel · 16/07/2009 09:41

hollybunda - i have seen the odd couple of pushier parents yet at most castings and jobs we have been too most are normal parents and you can see the kids want to be there!

champagneanddaisys · 16/07/2009 16:33

chelle - my dd is 4 months so that might be why, I also got the msg back saying books are closed so not sure....

quite keen to go with them if they accept her because there spozed to be good so iv got my fingers and toes crossed!

the thing is its taken them so long to reply just asking for more photos so hope there not like that if you go with them.

Im just not sure wat to do bout bonnie and betty coz they seem quite good aswell but there dusnt seem to be many people out there who have sighned with them? anyone?

also anyone know if you sighned with two agencys and one of them was sole what would happen? not that im gunna lol!!

allyfe · 16/07/2009 18:10

xtracex - I decided to see if my dd was model material because I thought she'd enjoy it, but mainly it was because I thought I'd enjoy it! She was 3 months old, so it is hardly like it would have made any difference to her one way or another. But I thought it would be fun, and it was nice that agencies thought she was model material (read it is an ego boost for the parents - I would say for all parents even if that isn't going to be the main motivation for doing it). So, I'd say don't worry, see how your dd finds it, how you find it (since it is commitment from you, and in theory just fun for her), and go from there. Although, it is such a hit and miss industry (in terms of getting castings or jobs), I wouldn't invest to much into it (financially or emotionally - it is hard not to get impatient about not getting castings!) - but it sounds like you are being cautious about not doing that.

I'm sure there are pushy parents, but there are pushy parents for all things - child modelling, stage schools, ballet schools, sports parents, academic achieving parents etc etc.

With regards to your question about being in the room - I'm not sure what the answer is. My dd is too small for it to be a question

For the bruce and brown ladies - they are considered to be a great agency so congrats for being taken on, and fingers crossed the extra pictures turn it into a yes

cacahuete · 16/07/2009 20:27

hiya..
anyone with kids london? how u gettin on?...been with them for 4 months...got a couple castings straight away but now nothing after that...does that sound familiar?..My ds is 7 months now....maybe there s no demand for babies this age? what s ur experience?

altin · 18/07/2009 11:07

cacahuete:

My dd/ds are with Kids London, you need to be patient since, along with B&B and UA they are generally considered the best. If they can't find work for your ds then nobody can.

My dd and ds have been with KL for a couple years - they get very few jobs, but when they do they're great souvenirs for the future -e.g. dd did Vogue recently (cover) and ds is on John Richmond website at the moment looking very cool and I'm really proud of him, but.. it's only his second job in two years and you have to accept that the phone will go months and months without
ringing and then out of the blue it rings
non-stop for a week for castings. There's no rhyme or reason and I'm sure others would confirm this.

Good luck to you and I'm sure your ds will get something soon.

Altin.

allyfe · 18/07/2009 12:38

Hi Cacahuete, my dd is with KL but she has only been with them for a month. We have had two casting calls (annoyingly, one for next week when we are away on holiday . She is 4 months. I can understand your disapointment, I'd be disapointed too. I'm sure you have, but have you updated your photos regularly? I know they say that they stop putting small children forward if the photos aren't regularly updated.
Fingers crossed your phone rings a lot and soon! Ally

ADealingMummy · 20/07/2009 18:57

Hi all ,

Just wondering if anyone is going to a casting for Gap ? Apparently they are interested in DD for a casting .

xx

Housemum · 21/07/2009 19:35

Cacahuete - the nature of this is that you can go months without hearing, then get calls one after the other (if you are lucky) - it could just mean that they aren't looking for that age group at the mo, there are loads of other similar aged children, or that a different colour hair/eyes/skin is more popular at the time. We had more for DD3 after 8 months, I think it's because by then almost all babies can sit up which gives them more options for poses.

dizzydori · 22/07/2009 08:58

Hi Cacahuete,
I'm also with KL and have been with them a couple of months. My DD had her first casting a couple of weeks ago and from that her first job. As Housemum says it depends on what the client is looking for.

ADealingMummy, good luck to your dd for the Gap casting. Well done, that would be a fantastic job to get.

cacahuete · 22/07/2009 19:51

Hey thanks ladies for your replies! Funny that the day after my post , i got a casting call for my DS!..hehehe....so hopefully that would lead to a job....and fingers crossed for your little ones too!

mustsleep · 22/07/2009 20:40

Hi just wondering about seeing if dd (3yo) could maybe do some modelling work but we live in Leeds

are there any agencies up here anyone could recommend?

what is the usual that happens with jobs etc and what should we expect assuming that she is picked up by an agency?

thanks I don;t have a clue about any of this so any advice would be really welcome

I also have ds (7) he is lovely looking but has a birthmark on his chin that is really noticable would this effect his chances of being signed to anywhere?

dizzydori · 22/07/2009 21:42

Well done cacahuete, fingers crossed for your ds x

Mustsleep UAN are supposed to be good agency if you're based up north. I'm sure someone will be along soon who will advise further. As for your ds I'm sure he's gorgeous, you may need to contact individual agencies with regard to his birthmark. Good luck x x

Housemum · 23/07/2009 21:34

I'm another southerner, but have heard of Urban Angels North (UAN) and Boss. Try looking on the Alba Model Info website, it should have a list of reputable agencies.

What sort of birthmark? If too noticeable/not easily covered it could be tricky but I don't know.

If DD is taken on, it's just a case of waiting for the phone to ring. Bear in mind it's almost always short notice, so have you got friends/family who could do the school run with DS if you get a call? Often you only find out the day before for a casting, and then you may know the shoot dates but unless it is a licensed job, you may not hear until a day or two before the job.

bigmummal1 · 24/07/2009 08:31

Altin,

I totally agree with you. You go months without anything and then it all comes at once. My DS 3 and DD 3 months have been extremely busy recently. We are with Urban Angels (South) and this year DS has done a job for Arial, Mothercare and is doing a job for Tesco Gift Guide next week.

DD has done Johnson & Johnson, Tesco Baby & Toddler, Blooming Marvellous & she is doing another Johnson & Johnson job today.

I thoroughly recommend Urban Angels, they are a fantastic agency!

cheekyface · 25/07/2009 11:53

hi all, i'm new to this site...my 8 yr old daughter wants to model so i lurked on here 3/4 weeks ago researching agencies. anyway..applied to B&B and she's been accepted :0)....i'm surprised no 'interview' is required...is this normal? (don't get me wrong, i trust them, having made very sure they were reputable before even sending pics).... anyway laydeez, the advice on this forum has proven really useful for me...so a big thank-you and i'm sure at some point or another i'll be back with some dippy questions ;o)

Housemum · 26/07/2009 13:55

Cheekyface - B&B definitely v good, DDs 2 & 3 have had loads through them. We did have an "interview" for DD1 but she was only 3, so maybe they need to be more certain of the temperament at that age. Good luck!

cheekyface · 26/07/2009 18:55

hi housemum...and thanks, whay you said makes perfect sense )

cheekyface · 26/07/2009 18:56

haha sorry...that was supposed to read 'what you said'...sooo tired after a long but very nice day at a drizzly barbeque

mustsleep · 27/07/2009 14:40

Hi everyone I posted an app to models direct for dd and she has been "accepted" but they want me to pay £1 a week for her to be on their books ....is that normal?

I looked for UA but couldn;t find it lol

dizzydori · 27/07/2009 18:24

Mustsleep please please avoid Models Direct like the plague, they will take your money and then run

If you put Urbanangels models in a Google search you should find them. They are a super agency from what I hear.

mustsleep · 27/07/2009 19:41

thanks dizzydori have found them now bu it says their books are currently closed

Housemum · 28/07/2009 00:25

Mustsleep - Google "Alba model info" and they have details of other reputable agencies (and warnings about scams)
