Just wondering what you think of this artist's work

(it's not controversial modern art done with blood or poo, I just kind of like the bloke's style)

the bookshop got turfed out, and I think some of the new traders have been too, whilst they are adding a new wing to the Bluecoat.

Beety: I think we might have a war on our hands.

I tried waking dw up (went to bed late) to show her Girl with Moth but she was too sleepy to be stirred !

I mailed the gallery early this morning (EARLIER THAN YOUR POST DAMMIT) to buy the girl with moth for dw as pressie for dd-bean-to-be because it is a yummy little painting !!!!

Did you go for the same ????

Oh well, there's a few other nice ones - for both of us - and this gallery tends to have new stock fairly often.

If you do want to buy it may be cheaper to combine the delivery, I am happy to do that - we're N. London if that's convenient - it wouldn't be worth doing if we couldnt meet up I don't think as wouldn't want to risk repackaging for a UK courier. I've used the gallery before. They are friendly and prompt with great packing.

Isn't taste funny? I don't get the Rachel Carmichel pictures at all, prefer the Patrick Herons. Not sure about the Niall Reas either, they seem to be quite interior design-y

brinkley · 23/03/2005 18:35

sorry twiglett but i think i would prefer the modern art done in blood or poo to that

patrick heron's ok but terry frost is better - or william scott

also don't rate the decorative gold leaf stuff much

Twiglett · 23/03/2005 18:45

unfortunately DH isn't too keen on it, although as always am very tempted by a half-price sale but thanks for talking to him anyway

you said he was exhibiting at the lyric beety .. is that till 4th April?

Hi Beety, all I can say is I'm gonna be in big trouble if I don't get it !!! Chances are the bloody thing's gone anyway. I reckon it would have got picked up v. quick by someone feeling slushy.

Girl with cat (bigger piece, blue background, auburn hair ?) - I have some large digital images of this piece the gallery sent me (we were thinking of buying that a few weeks ago ! I can forward the closeups if you CAT me).

I didn't think I could handle the gold leaf stuff - we've got nothing like that in our house at all furniture / deco wise, but the frames and detailing seem to work well once in place.

hub2dee · 23/03/2005 18:46

Twig, did you have to pose a long time for those pointy boobs ?

We collect Paul Horton's work, we have about 7 of his. Love their simplicity, perfect for our modern build house.

Paul Horton, the ones with the houses/buildings in are my particular interest. Quite Lowry-esque

NomDePlume · 23/03/2005 18:55

I quite like Twigg's bloke, but not enough to buy any of it. Like the richness of colour. Not keen on Bundle's scribbles though

Twiglett · 23/03/2005 19:07

Do any of you know who this painter is, I saw a piece on a news programme (I think) ages ago

there were a couple dancing on a beach with a butler in a bowler hat and (I think) a record player

it was a fairly famous modern piece I think .. probably not a good enough description I know

yeuch because he's cheeeeeeeeeeesy

bettys · 23/03/2005 19:33

I find it fascinating what art people own or collect. I have a couple by Simon Palmer who is another Yorkshire artist & quite good at depicting place & atmosphere.

NomDePlume · 23/03/2005 19:35

Also like McKenzie Thorpe

marthamoo · 23/03/2005 19:57

I like those Paul Horton ones.

marthamoo · 23/03/2005 19:58

And the Simon Palmer ones.

Bloody hell, I can't do organic food and art.

NomDePlume · 23/03/2005 20:00

I love the childlike simplicity of the Paul Horton pictures. The sense of light, shade and depth is also lovely when you see them in the flesh.

franch · 23/03/2005 20:06

We own one Tamsin Pearson. Wish we could afford to buy more art - should've done while whe had the chance, before DD!
