Boys names - quick poll

Don't know what sex I'm having but we're struggling to pick a boys name. All seem to be "taken" - in fact 2 potentials have been taken in last 2 days!

But, bit shy about posting this now, we both like teh name...Jesse.

Will he get laughed at (You big jessy) or have a lifetime of saying "Yes, Jesse, you know, just like Jesse James"

Opinions please.

Not sure about Seamus iota. Had one in our school...

Also, my boys' unusual names are, in fact, Irish although our links with Ireland are very tenuous (dh's ancestry was Irish)

Janh · 15/03/2005 13:46

I was going to suggest Leo! Leo and Max have been my 2 favourites for ages. Dominic v nice too and unusual now (was popular in 70s?)

Helmut good too - how about Arnold to go with it?

Fimbo · 15/03/2005 13:46

I like Irish names, albeit I am flummoxed how to say some of them i.e. Niamh for Neave etc

Yeah why not?
Declan Joseph, Connor Edward (Edward was my granfather - I know not Irish!) and Finbar Ciaran. You can choose any of those without me being offended! In fact I would be flattered!

Tinker · 15/03/2005 13:49

You're right Lonelymum, should pick what I like but have been quite close (well, talked about it a lot) to colleague and know hers is a very longed for baby so would feel a bit rotten to use it. It was only a lukewarm choie as well.

Lockets! I always mean to have a cat called Malachy!!!

iota · 15/03/2005 13:50

Tinker - not guilty to suggesting Seamus - not actually a name I'd chose - much prefer Sean

Tinker · 15/03/2005 13:51

Like lots of those LM, in fact Joe would be first choice but know so many. Liek Edward.

Love felix bundle.

You're not a Viz reader then, LM!

Gwenick · 15/03/2005 13:51

you can call them Tongai Scott or Tafara Yehudi if you like too and I won't be offended either (although having said that we did make a big effort to make sure none of the names we used were family or close friends related )

Lonelymum · 15/03/2005 13:52

Other Irish names (if that is waht you fancy):
Christy (if there was ever a ds4, that would be my choice so you can see Jesse meets my approval), Owen, Ryan, Brendan..

Tinker · 15/03/2005 13:52

Seamus I knew used to get calle Shay though which is quite cool sounding. Hey, what about Che? Pretentious?

Janh, no I am not. Why? Have I committed some faux pas?

iota · 15/03/2005 13:54

I know someone who called her son Shay - apparently after some footballer

WideWebWitch · 15/03/2005 13:54

Ooh, I like Dominic and Leo. And Theo and Felix and Noah and Milo and Declan. Janh, I didn't see the mad bints at the bottom of the Gabriel Byrne photo! Ha ha!

helsi · 15/03/2005 13:55

If I have a boy he will be called Christopher. I think it suits any age of boy/man and can be shortened to Chris as a teenager/adult if preferred later on.

WideWebWitch · 15/03/2005 13:55

Finbar Saunders and his double entendres! I know a Finbar, I like that name too.

Janh · 15/03/2005 13:55

Noooo, it's just that one of the cartoon characters is called Finbar (or even Finbarr - not sure which spelling they use).

If you had another boy you could call him Anthony and then you'd have your very own Ant and Dec
