Sorry, you have secondaries, in the bones and in the liver.

The total fucker is, because he takes aspirin(some equivalent)he can not have a biopsy for three weeks until his blood regulates.

So until then, we have no chemo session times, ergo, I can not arrange to go to Dublin once a month, to allow my DS(7) to ram his memory banks full of his Grandad.

I feel helpless and useless and utterly devoid of power(wrong word)

Today was a good day....

I woke up positive and did my best to stay that way.

The good news is the biopsy has been brought forward to next Thursday as his blood is clotting nicely. The bad news/good news is that it will give us more defintite information. As his scan was clear 6 months ago there is a possibility that he is in the early stages.

If he was still with us and still able to travel next June,(DS's First Holy Communion) I would consider myself to be extremely extremely lucky.

We are going home on the 21st of November, we have dear friends with us for bonfire night,(8th) DS is running backwards for the school (cross country) 15th so that is the first available date.

So is it the scan that's shown up stuff in his liver and bones?

BreevandercampLGJ · 24/10/2008 21:07

Yes the ultrasound showed up a problem with the liver, then the MRI (I think) showed up the bones, but it would appear to be only in one hip at the moment.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/10/2008 21:21

a problem? Is the liver being biopsied then? Or both the bones and liver?

How is your Mum taking it?

BreevandercampLGJ · 24/10/2008 22:12

My mother is being stoic, she is tired and needs a good nights sleep. Like me she is sleeping through but waking at silly o clock.

He went to see his consultant 6 months ago, all clear. He went the other day having had an Ultrasound and it showed something on the liver.

The MRI (?) showed up in the hip bone and the liver, the extent of the liver will not be known until he can have the biopsy. I reckon it will be the liver that will take him out. As I said, without fooling ourselves we can only pray it was in the early stages as opposed to being there six months and one day and waiting to be discovered.

Hello, darling. Thank you for your text. I'm so sorry you've had this news and I so hope the biopsy is as positive as can be.

Thinking of you, my love - let's organise another date to do actual, in person hugs - at lunchtime - and soon xx xx xx

BreevandercampLGJ · 24/10/2008 22:34

Hunker

A lunch time meet up, would be great. Will let you all know, when I know.

I am resolved to flying home once a month minimum, at the beginning and if it has to be more than that then so be it.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/10/2008 22:35

Oooh! Lunch!
We definitely need to be ladies who lunch.
Need to find a free saturday for lunch I think

chipmonkey · 24/10/2008 22:57

Bree, I really do think the fact that nothing at all showed up six months ago has got to be a good thing.
It is so tough though. A friend's mother who was like a mother to me when I was in my teens ( I lived with them for a year) also has secondaries in the liver. She is thinking very positively, making plans for house extensions etc, and you know, I do think it is helping her immensely, focussing on all the good things she has to look forward to, and thinking "When I'm better" as opposed to "if I'm better" Easier said than done, I know.

BreevandercampLGJ · 24/10/2008 23:01

Chip

They called in to see some friends today to tell them, Dads friend never missed a beat, well that is not ideal, but you are strong and you will drag as much as you can out of this.

It kind of shook, DDad as he was having a down day and expected every other bugger to agree with him.

Terrible when your friends won't permit you to be miserable!

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/10/2008 09:16

Ladies - house virtually in a state that we could do lunch here if you like, then we can all hug my snuggly ds as well as each other.

Fingers firmly crossed for Thurs Bree.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/10/2008 09:18

oooh now that sounds like a plan

edam · 25/10/2008 09:21

Oh LGJ, I'm so sorry. Fingers crossed for a good result.

Ok today was a good day, woke at 4.30 (not so good really, no other bugger awake but me)...wide awake, even more wide awake.....finally got out of bed and found one of the milder than mild sleepers the GP prescribed. Left it next to the bed, just in case. Didn't use it but....

I slept for several hours and felt better equipped to deal with real life.

I normally stick everything in chat, as I am happy for it to go after 90 days.

Obviously, I want my Darling Dad to last longer than 90 days. This is the first time I have ever felt the need for constant support on MN so I will ask MN to move this to a different topic.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/10/2008 20:57

Why does it need a different topic?
Glad you've had a better day

Is that 4.30 after the clocks went back?????

ggglimpopo · 26/10/2008 21:00

Oh sweetie

Thinking of you. Is there anything French and cheering that I can send?

ThingOne · 26/10/2008 21:17

I'm very sorry to hear this Bree.

I've been treated for secondary cancers in my liver this year and my surgeon diagnoses using MRI and CT scans alone, without biopsies. See these from the BMJ: www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/328/7438/507 www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=524607.

The nature and position of my tumours were correctly located by the MRI. I underwent a successful liver resection in July. I lost 25% of my liver. They can remove 75%.

Probably worth asking why they are doing the biospy, if your parents can face it. Does he have a specialist liver surgeon? If you can find a way of saying it I'd try to avoid letting a general surgeon loose on a liver.

I hope you can get some more good sleep.

Buda · 26/10/2008 21:29

Oh Bree. I have only just seen this. I am sorry.

Hugs to you. Was going to email you to see if you were going to the Xmas meet-up.

That whole 'secondary' word is damn scary.

Is he going to Beaumont?

Bubble99 · 26/10/2008 21:36

Hope you're OK this evening.

I am counting down the sleeps till we meet up.

hunkermunker · 26/10/2008 21:58

Hey, sweetheart - just checking in and hoping today has been OK. Sending lots more love and think moving the thread was a good plan.

CSWS, that sounds like a lovely idea!

Bubble, have you changed your email address? The last one I sent you bounced - can you email hunkermunker at gmail dot com please?

Carmenere · 26/10/2008 22:02

Thinking of you xxx
