Ok, I am starting a thread from a thread......regards petrol usage. Do any of you know how much your car does to the gallon???

I have a chrysler voyager, and it is very very thirsty.

DH is talking exchanging it as soon as my compensation comes thro, but I want to do lots of research first.

Currently we get 14.6 MPG, which I am sure is massively shocking.

what do you cars do, and if you have a MPV, can you also let me know type of car.

I get 30 mpg from a (diesel) Citroen C8, which I thought was bad, am at your 14.6.

so am I. we have a snazzy little thingy that tells us the temp outside the car, or the direction. we also found it tells us exactly what out MPG is....and are completely stunned. we knew it was thirsty, but no quite how much!!!

£30 MPG sounds like a dream

at 14.6 mpg. I have a Mercedes B Class 200 turbo (so pretty damn quick) and that does over 30 mpg AND it's a petrol. DH's Audi TT also does over 30 mpg. Think it is time to get a new car PyschoMum!

Er how do you work it out? . My car does 180-245 miles per tank depending on the road conditions but I know it's a thirsty beast for it's size.

I have an Audi A3 1.8 turbo and atm we are getting 31.7 mpg. Would be better but we do lots of short trips round town which uses more. When we do lots of motorway driving we get nearer 40mpg. Oh and its a petrol.

Am completely at your 14.6.

My diesel Galaxy (7 seater) does 43.4 mpg.

I work mine out by pressing the little button on the end of the washer stick until the display changes to the average mpg readout!!

Guess you would need to know how many gallons your tank takes or how many you put in and how many miles you get from them.

we are definately looking into a new car.....we do need an MPV tho, so I need to find one that it economical.

last week, bar the trip to visit nappies, we put £70 and just did school/ballet and scout runs.

that was IT!

I don't think I have a MPG calculator on my car .

volkwagen touren 7 seater diesel - does between 35 and 55mpg depending on road conditions (has a dashboard display that tells you) - I average high 40s.

(and it tells you the outside temperature too!)

oooh....do any of you have bum heaters in your driver and passenger seats.....that would sway me!

heated seats are not going to get your mpg up you know

Diesel Clio (not mpv sized!) does more than 60mpg every time.

The way we work it out is fill the tank from nearly empty and set counter to 0. Then you know how many litres are in there. Take mileage done next time you fill up when empty at relatively same point, divide by number of litres and Multiply by 4.55 for gallons.

My Ford Mondeo diesel does about 46.8 miles to the gallon on average. I keep a very close eye on it and I know that the way I drive affects it. When I am late to pick up ds and start rushing and not thinking about how I am drivig, my average invariably falls.

I tend to do lots of motorway - live 40 miles from work - and few little trips, which helps with the mpg as well.

oh I know.......tis just that when I have severe back ache they help me for a little bit.

you do get better mpg with diesel. No bum heaters in mine - but it does have heated wing mirrors if that might have an influence on you

and it has heated seats for both driver and passenger. Vital for those cold winter mornings!

by the way - town drive and country lanes, and lots of short journeys mean low mpg - best mpg is driving on a roads at about 50-60 mph.

Mmmmmh - can see your dilemma there.

if you have 5 kids - you need to be aware that you have to fold down a middle seat to get in to the back two - which means taking out car seats - not a problem if it is a booster - but worth thinking about.

Heated wing mirrors - I thought - pah - won't ever use it - but oddly it is one of the most useful things I thought I would never use.
