I have a chrysler voyager, and it is very very thirsty.

DH is talking exchanging it as soon as my compensation comes thro, but I want to do lots of research first.

Currently we get 14.6 MPG, which I am sure is massively shocking.

what do you cars do, and if you have a MPV, can you also let me know type of car.

TIA

35-40 depending on what sort of distances we are doing. Pootling around town tends to be more like 35.

And that is a big 13yr old estate car.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 10:54

they are not healthy today tho....well, unless you have the really psycho fabulous one known as DS2....he has a 8VERY* interesting take on life at times

car seats are not a problem anymore so much....only the smaller ones have car seats, and two are boosters, one is a full seat but still only uses the three-point belt.

how hard is it to fold the seat down on yours throckenholt??

spammythevampireslayer · 13/10/2008 10:57

Snap with the not healthy. Am at home today with ds who has some yuckky virus which means he cannot hold anything down.

Your DS2 sounds fab!

ClaireDeLoon · 13/10/2008 10:59

50ish. It's an audi 2.0 diesel A3 sportback so a fair size. That is from the onboard computer thing so I guess fairly accurate.

cmotdibbler · 13/10/2008 10:59

I have a Merc B Class CDI 200 - it does 49-50 MPG on motorway driving, which I think is pretty good for a largish car.

throckenholt · 13/10/2008 11:23

how hard is it to fold the seat down on yours throckenholt??

very. And the back two seats fold down very easily to make a large boot. Boot is miniscule when the back seats are up though.

I have to say we have only had it a couple of months - but can't fault it so far - very easy to drive, comfortable etc.

throckenholt · 13/10/2008 11:23

I meant very easy - not very hard !!

CarGirl · 13/10/2008 11:29

my ancient automatic petrol espace only does around 19mpg probably less if there aren't any lengthy trips involved!

Lilymaid · 13/10/2008 11:29

Up to 60 mpg in a diesel 1.5 Scenic - depends on the type of journey and whether it has recently been serviced.

Poledra · 13/10/2008 11:37

Usually 38mpg in my diesel 2.0 Galaxy, tho' can improve to 48 if I do a long motorway run. Have got the newer shape, and the back seats fold down into the floor reeeeeally easily.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 11:42

cargirl.....many moons ago we had a renault espace (k reg IIRC). I wrote it off bumping into a car with a tow bar on the back at about 5mph...((car park four way bump)). the tow bar went thro to out water thingy at the front and ripped a huge great hole in it.

we were not entirely sorry as it too was thirsty, but not quite so obviously as the petrol was cheaper then.

DH was also pleased as he found the pedals too close for his manly feet

I am sorely tempted to look into the volkwagen touran 7 seater diesel that throckenholt has. ((it will at least go onto a list for DH to look into anyway)).

OP posts:
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 11:43

talking list......need to add some more.

ford galaxy - will look into diesel.

what is the citreon c8?? is that an MPV?

oh, throckenholt........does your have sliding doors at the back?

OP posts:
throckenholt · 13/10/2008 11:46

no sliding doors. If you want that - have a look at the mazda 5 (I think ) - similar to the Touran - I can't remember why I didn'tlike it - but it does have sliding doors.

Another option is the vauxhall zafira - although apparently it is a bit of a slug and not very efficient.

The Touran comes out well on the car trade recommendations (DH looked into it all).

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 11:58

nah, the zafira is too small for us. we had it on loan once after one of my many car accidents.

I don;t need the sliding doors, but the cars parked near to mine in car parks might appreciate them!

LunarSea · 13/10/2008 12:00

My Seat Altea XL (diesel) averages about 45 mpg. But it's still quite new and the consumption is improving all the time. Previous Seat Leon with the same engine would consistently average 55 mpg.

forevercleaning · 13/10/2008 12:06

18 mpg - range rover

Poledra · 13/10/2008 12:14

Psycho, I didn't think the Touran was any bigger than the Zafira but am prepared to be proven wrong. I looked at loads of MPVs at the beginning of the year but mainly ended up with the Galaxy because
a) it fitted all 3 of our dds' carseats in one row along the back and
b) the back seats fold into the floor and do not need to be taken out. If it hadn't been for this, would have probably ended up with the Kia Sedona instead.
Hope you find something to suit you

GentleGarotter · 13/10/2008 12:17

Have the government stopped the grant for LPG conversions?

TheBlonde · 13/10/2008 12:19

according to autotrader ours does 48.7mpg (57.6mpg for economical driving).

ShrinkingViolet · 13/10/2008 12:20

Citroen C8 is an MPV - same car as the Peugeot 807 and the Fiat Ulysse - whcih has 7 proper seats (rear two fold forward to make boot space rather than into the floor), and best of all, sliding doors.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 12:21

what is an LPG conversion??

OP posts:
gladbag · 13/10/2008 12:23

Toyota corolla, diesel - usually 48 mpg for pottling about, and up to about 58 for longer journeys.

It's not an exciting car by any means (in fact I think corolla drivers are traditionally the most boring of all ), but I don't care about that sort of stuff. It's very reliable, and very cheap to run and I love it.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 12:24

ooh, I know the peugeot one, a friend of a friend has one.

ahh......that will be added to our list then

ohdearwhatamess · 13/10/2008 12:26

Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel 45.1 mpg
