I have a chrysler voyager, and it is very very thirsty.

DH is talking exchanging it as soon as my compensation comes thro, but I want to do lots of research first.

Currently we get 14.6 MPG, which I am sure is massively shocking.

what do you cars do, and if you have a MPV, can you also let me know type of car.

TIA

my megane sport does about 35 and is petrol.

my dads 2litre laguna can do up to 70 on the motorways!!!! (diesel)

LPG conversions
You used to be able to get some sort of gizmo put in to the boot of your car which enabled you to fill up with LPG at a fraction of the cost of petrol/diesel.
The conversion cost about £1200 but the government reimbursed quite a bit back.

The grant stopped a while ago and call me cynical but it would have saved people a small fortune plus would have been a greener option for many. Perhaps the govt are making a sly bob or two instead.

51-52 depending on who is driving (mine better than dps ) in a toyota yaris.

on th eother hand his car is a freelander and thts about 35ish

Reamhar · 13/10/2008 13:22

Diesel Focus C-Max does 53 miles to gallon according to the trip computer thingy for around town driving.

ScotsLassDownSouth · 13/10/2008 13:30

I have no idea how many miles I get to the gallon/litre - but I also drive a Chrysler Voyager (1997 model, we have had it since new). I fill it up once a month (approx £80) and get approx 560 miles from it. (It's generally only used for getting me to work and back, we use DH's car at the weekends/evenings). We should really sell it now as our driving needs have changed now the DCs are older but I don't think we'd get much for it even though it's in great condition.

mistlethrush · 13/10/2008 13:44

Won't help on MPV grounds, but Skoda Octavia Estate 1.9d does c. 54mpg on longer journeys - almost all journeys between 4 - 60 mpg... I certainly wouldn't contemplate a car that went below 40 mpg due to prices at present. Does depend on mileage per year though

CaptainKarvol · 13/10/2008 13:50

Am shocked to calculate that my little 1 litre Yaris only seems to do about 40mpg. Eeek. Does about 300-320 miles to the tankful, and I think the tank is about 35l.

throckenholt · 13/10/2008 14:55

it does depend how you drive - if you do lots of accelerating then the mileage really falls off - it is amazing to watch when you have a counter thing on the dash - it makes you much more aware of how you are driving.

If I am in a hurry it can easily knock 5-10 mpg off a journey of say 10 miles.

TequilaMockinBird · 13/10/2008 14:57

I have a diesel and can get 60mpg on a long motorway run.

Just running around town it generally does 52/53mpg

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 18:52

I don;t do much of the fast accelerating, if anything I am a slow starter at times.

DH is seeming keen on looking at diesels

OMG 14.6MPG!! DH would have a hissy fit!!
I have a Fiat Stilo, a petrol, and get about 35MPG at the moment, but it needs a service.
Its the main road near me which takes my MPG down, its stop start stop start on that road!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 13/10/2008 18:57

BTW you can search on sites for average mpg for cars, if the cars are doing lower than that, its a fault on your car or driving! So my husband says

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 18:58

elf....DH does!!!

he has waited this long to start having said hissy fit tho as I have been building my confidence back up from the car accident, and he wanted to make sure I was ready for a new car before we changed it.

we are leaking money fast now tho!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 13/10/2008 19:01

Does he drive the car too?

I looked at my car today, and although my average is 35mpg, my average speed was only 21mph!!

nell12 · 13/10/2008 19:07

43mpg from my 1.6l petrol Nissan Note

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 13/10/2008 19:52

he does, but not as much as me. he has his works car (which thankfully is a teeny car and does miles to the tank)

I do try to ensure my revs stay under 2, whatever that is supposed to mean.,. DH says it saves petrol so I try and do so. it does not seem to save much however, altho it is better than it was......in the summer it was doing 12mpg

OP posts:
Millarkie · 13/10/2008 19:56

We have a fiat multipla which does 43mpg (diesel)

duckyfuzz · 13/10/2008 19:56

mine does about 50mpg during a normal week of commuting, school runs (en route to work, not separate journey!) etc but more on long motorway journeys, its half the size of DH's mondeo estate, but we always use it as its half as thirsty too!

Claire236 · 13/10/2008 19:58

Apparently my Focus ST does about 25 mpg - obviously need to drive it slower. It does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds which is a much more entertaining figure.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/10/2008 19:59

52mpg - 1.0ltr Yaris.

supportman · 13/10/2008 20:02

My 1.9 megane diesel does about 45mpg. My 4 liter V8 Lexus does 25mpg if I am very very careful doing long motorway journeys. Around town it is horrendous, about 3mpg.

gallusbesom · 15/10/2008 11:05

My 1.4 207 does about 41mpg and that it with roof racks and cycle carrier on which I think does cause a reduction in mpg
