Do you remember hurtful comments from your past?

I remember when I was about 14, a boy told me I "had no neck". Well, I don't have a swan-like neck, granted, but this comment has never left me.

I also remember being v. proud of a new perm that I'd had (about 15/16) and was going out to a local disco with my cousin. There was a boy who lived near her who I quite liked, he was really nice and friendly, and I remember asking him if he liked my hair, and he said "yeh, it's alright at the front but the back is a right mess". Never forgotten that either.

Or the time that a girl I worked with said "xxx's eyebrows are like coat-hangers". Never forgotten that bitch either.

I'm sure there are more hurtful comments from years past that I will never forget. How about any of you?

I know its not funny but its the way you tell them

I remember some things that have been said to me over the years.

One particular one was when getting changed for swimming another girl said to me "If you had no feet would you wear shoes? Why do you wear a bra then?".

Horrible person, but I still remember it .

Also remember a person in my class saying really loudly "You've got a moustache". Yes I do have a bit of a hairy lip problem but I still don't know why he felt it necessary to announce it.

And there were lots of speccy four eyes comments as well.

And whenever I walked up the stairs in front of my father, he'd say "Oh God, there's been an eclipse!"

Hobloodyho.

Toothache, I've got Spanish on my Mum's side, either great grandmother or great great grandmother, not sure which.

morningpaper · 04/03/2005 16:03

Sobernow: I see him more as inadequate rather than cruel ...

Actually I was more pissed off that he didn't know WTF I was studying for the two years I was at college... grr.

I had the moustache comment at uni from supposed 'friends' who were older to know better! When my sister got married I was trying on bridesmaids dresses and my mum said she thought we shouldn't try on any more until I lost weight - I was 10stone and 5ft 6. My sister on the same shopping trip said 'now that you've moved in with your boyfriend it doesn't mean you have to let yourself go'

fastasleep · 04/03/2005 16:17

Everyone here who's been called fat by their mums has my complete sympathy it's such an awful feeling isn't it, mine did and still does call me fat! At one point I was a size 4-6 at the age of about 12 (I developed boobs and hips very early though) and she actually started calling my gran and loudly saying 'I'm worried about 'Fastasleep' she's going to be the only one in this family with a fat arse...' she's put me down so many times about so many different things and I can't understand why!

I also got bullied at school 'Scabby Abi' was my nickname and I actually got physically bullied by some boys all the way through primary school, one broke my foot quite badly....one kicked me somewhere very private and said 'I'll make your periods come early you smelly b*tch'....

You would think that in grown up life people would stop making hurtful comments for no reason wouldn't you but naive little me found out recently that it's not the case at all!!!

Worse for me is that I will never forget something I said about a girl a school in front of the whole class, i was about 8 years old. we were making heads for puppets and we were talking about facial features, i said 'i hate it when people have sticky out teeth like xxxx has'. xxxx was mortified. It wasn't meant to be nasty or hurtful but I just didn't realise that it wasn't nice. My brothers and sisters were always a bit horrible to each other - it was normal to make those comments. My brothers used to call me concord - it took me until I was late 20s to accept and love my nose (and actually I have a very small head and face the nose is not really big!). And anyway xxxx had braces and has perfect teeth now!

My mother says lots of things that hurt me all the time, always made me feel the ugly one of her 4 daughters. the best one was when i got married in January this year (at about 30 weeks pregnant), after I had dressed I asked her if I looked OK and she replied 'Oh well, I suppose that's the best we can do!'. I won't forget it and it partly ruined my day. Thanks mum!!!!

Reading through this maybe we can learn something from our mothers. Don't say horrible things to your children (especially daughters) about the way they look. Its mortifying and destroys confidence and self esteem.

Sorry, got a bit serious there!
