Ciao, hello, welcome!

Just dawned on me that you might not have a carseat as will be travelling around on boats the whole time. Duh

Rosa · 07/10/2008 16:21

Yes you really do need a pram / carry cot style kind of thing for at least the first 5- 6 mths as they do spend lots of time in it. We have a car seat which is a 0-18 kg thing with a NB insert so going to use that for dd2 and get a sort of booster thing with sides for dd1.
We have managed to get the cornice off and the whole liner is in the machine with the hood lots of smacchia facile, detergente and a ton of Napisan !. I have contacted the seller with my thoughts and I await his reply. The description says clearly Ottimo stato usato poco - If it doesn't come up decent then yes I will demand a refund - I don't want to splash out Eu500 for another combination AHHHHH.- Its more the hassle of finding one as well as the cost !

What a nightmare re ebay....I'm going to be listing all my baby stuff soon which is cluttering up the place...already got stung on ebay with a peg pushchair which was totally brand new- I preferred the Maclaren that I picked up in the UK, the Peg was a gift from dd's godparents- I only got one sodding euro for it! Couldn't believe it....an identical one but not even new went for 99 euro just the week before...sob

Brangelina · 07/10/2008 16:55

I never bothered with a navetta myself, DD was pushed around in her carseat, but then I used a sling a lot in the very first weeks, public transport nightmare that prams are in Milan. I hope you do get it coming up clean. Some people have a nerve with their descriptions. Ottimo stato indeed!

Bucharest, I find Italian ebay quite crap for buying and selling baby things, I much prefer the UK one particulalry wrt clothes. I'm planning on listing stuff on the UK site when I've got a trip over imminent. That way I can avoid Italian postage and hopefully get a bit more for my "french designer" (aka DPAM) baby stuff. It is frustrating when something goes for too little, but you can avoid that in the future by enlisting a friend to bid on your listing.

francagoestohollywood · 07/10/2008 21:15

I used a carrozzina for the first months and then used a pram. Dd was in the chicco caddy at 8 months, I think (bad mother emoticon).

I'm tempted to sell a pair of marc Jacobs shoes on Ebay, but don't have the guts to do it.

Has anyone watched Juno? Have just watched it, it is really good.

Brangelina- I agree with you about ebay....I think there is still a reluctance here for second hand stuff....Can't traipse the Martinella enormous pram over to England for ebay though! (was amazed to see even 2nd hand on ebay.com they fetch about 600 dollars)

Total change of topic, but wondered if anyone out there is a "lettrice" etc....back in the days BC (before child) I worked in various high schools doing this, and really should get back into the swing now....but I notice it's all very official now- bando esperti etc (it was all very much cash in hand and nod nod wink wink when I last did it, as you might expect down here) and am spending hours trawling the www looking for concorsi ads etc...the only ones I have been able to find have all been with a closing date of Feb 2008 (presumably for this academic year just started) Anybody know where I need to look? The ministro site is a nightmare- can't understand any of it! The ads I found were all on the sites of local schools- those that are teched up enough to have sites...I suppose I just need to send my domanda to all the schools in the area "per eventuali progetti PON" etc.....

Brangelina · 08/10/2008 09:59

Bucharest - As far as I know there are concorsi for individual universities (don't know if it's the same as schools, sorry). Ads are published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale and apparently there is a graduatoria based on how many qualifications you have, corsi di perfezionamento etc. There is also an exam apparently. However, I should imagine that as with all concorsi pubblici there is much greasing of palms and bypassing procedures. I have a friend who used to be lettrice at various universities in Milan and back then I'm pretty sure it was nudge nudge wink wink, also because she never had her docs in regola (was Aus so extracomunitaria).

I'd send your application to different schools and then maybe someone can point you in the right direction. Do you not still have contacts from the places you used to work or are we going too far back?

hothell · 08/10/2008 10:30

Hi guys, we are in bliss with our baby daughter...sorry cannot read all messages, have to deal with mega poo. Wonderful sleeper so far....fingers crossed...

francagoestohollywood · 08/10/2008 12:19

Awwwwwwwwwww, cute baby................... don't make me feel broody! Was the birth ok?

Do they now have mother tongue teachers in high schools? You might be able to teach at private schools???????????

OP posts:
Bucharest · 08/10/2008 13:01

Franca- one of the good things to be coming out of recent political upheavals is that they are placing quite a high emphasis on madrelingua-ness (lol) and the pay is actually higher than the normal teacher gets...at the last school I worked at (an ITC) I was on 25 euro an hour- which for the deep south was pretty bloody good. I was shocked to see yesterday (had a mad googling afternoon) that the rate now seems to be between 50 and 80 euro an hour! In a normal state high school! Let me at 'em I say! It all seems to be funded by these PON things (whatever they are!)
Private schools pay substantially less as they haven't got the money- the last private school I was at paid about 10 euro an hour...(in a brown envelope, in coins usually!)
Just finishing tedious CV (formato europeo) and will bang it out to all and sundry!

Sputnik · 08/10/2008 13:13

So what exactly is a lettrice, sorry, clueless!

Hothell, glad you're enjoying your new baby, they are gorgeous

Bucharest · 08/10/2008 13:41

A lettrice basically does a bit of a communicative English lesson alongside the Italian English teacher IYSWIM? Some schools let you do your own lesson which is obviously better....although at a Liceo Classico a few years ago I had a dreadful time as the Italian teacher literally wanted me to be a lettrice- ie I had to read aloud a text she had picked and the kids had to try and understand....put me in a coma, never mind the kids....

francagoestohollywood · 08/10/2008 16:00

Oh wow, things have changed in Italian schools then. I did Liceo Classsico and English was taught only in the first 2 yrs. And the teacher made us listen to the Macbeth on tapes. And we did lots of dictations .

Rosa · 08/10/2008 17:27

Hot - come back and tell us more details!!!
Good luck with the job search - A lettrice sounds a good idea- I helped some girls once for the maturita or equivalent I can't remember and the teacher refused to accept the town names in 'English' rather than the Italianised version - I had a terrible time and had to get a friend in to back me up !! I was also doing that for free as well !
Washed twice the lining hood etc of pram and am now thinking if I can cover the liner - it is much better but now of course I have taken a dislike to the thing but it will be a bit fiddly ..mmm we will see.
Dd just helped me make pizza ( we have lovely odd shaped pizza for dinner with less mozzarella than we started with !

francagoestohollywood · 08/10/2008 17:31

pizza, yummie . I'm making dh and the dc trout fillets in the oven + oven chips and fennels. I'm going out for sushi with friends

80 euros ph. Is that netti? The last time I heard the pay was 28,41 euros ph, which was still quite good. Much better than my 2000 francs a month in France 20 years ago. Hmmm, I wonder if I can moonlight....

Hot, stop teasing us with these snippets, come back properly and tell us EVERYTHING. I know you're probably blissed out by your gorgeous little girl but you are being too cruel to us.

Rosa, did you leave that guy negative feedback yet?

Pippi, when are you going to Venice? Me, dh, sil and bil were thinking of going for the 1st of november, there is an interesting exhibition at Palazzo Grassi. Would you be there?

And Rosa, will you find the time, in between washing navette, to grab a coffee/green tea/camomile/orange juice whatever with us???

Unless I am in the sala parto then I would love to meet up..get your tickets in advance if you do come as there is always a fila .Esp on public holidays
Could we find a Carolle doll today ?- Tried 3 of those big toy places so she has a Toys Center special offer doll with 2 cambi and everything fits in a zaino- But it doesn't cry, pee, poo, has a beating heart- We nearly ended up with a basic sbrodolina but we couldn't find any extras sold apart each doll seemed to have her things! Bloomin nightmare !
Also saw dh had a new added extra in his car a boys toy sat nav...mmm said I I know we have put house hunting on hold but I thought we should be saving ...Whilst mentally thinking of shoes,or something I want !!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2008 17:20

Rosa, step away from peeing dolls, they are going to pee all over your sofa, doncha know ?

Your dh is being very naughty buying a sat nav... especially if you want shoes (I mean, shoes are deffo a more exciting way of spending money than sat nav...)

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2008 17:21

Yes, tickets will need to be bought in advance. we aren't 100% sure of going, we need to find out whether some relatives of dh and bil can ospitarci...

hothell · 09/10/2008 19:44

The birth was great, she is wonderful, sucks away at her milk, ds ignores her so far, hopefully they will one day bond...have to rush...

francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2008 21:59

Rosa, that is sweet of you to offer . Yes, it'd be lovely to meet, after so much time . When is your due date btw? I have a friend who is due mid november, is yours another scorpio baby? My birthday is on the 25th of Nov.

Hot, they will bond sooner or later. I'm pretty sure he'll become all protective of her. Mine seem to have found a better balance recently and bicker less (I moaned about the bickering on here a few weeks ago).
