Ciao, hello, welcome!

I'm a teacher. I changed career shortly after my DD was born, worked as a nanny/childminder while I did my training as a nursery nurse. When DS was born couldn't hack being at home all day so went to work 2 days a week while I finished my training. Just before I finished my training was offered and given a supervisory role which I did for while. Then we came here and I found work in primary schools mostly. Did my TEFL and now work with all age groups and all group sizes. I really like my job. You do get the odd person who are difficult to work with but thats life. You do the best you can. The difficult kids are more trying because they generally choose to be there but the kids no and when they want to be a pain they really can. The trick is go in hard and lay down the law to start with then soften up and find what interests them.

francagoestohollywood · 25/11/2008 20:28

We all have good ideas and glad to see that the bookshop is in the dreams of most of us .
Gio, I think in those health centers I mentioned earlier are mostly nurses, paediatricians, ob/gyn and possibly a mediatore culturale. I really need to look into this social worker degree. Pippi yes, you are right re the midwifery course, I think it is very demanding time wise, but still I reckon at least I should study to try the entry exam.

Today is my birthday!!!!

Justa quick post as dd wants food - tanti Auguri Franca - you kept that quiet!
Pippi good luck with your course and hope your dh gets well soon .
I go to a second hand bookshop and when ever I have 30 mins ( not any more) I would sit on the sofa there and have a coffee and read a book - sheer bliss !!
Gotta go guys - oh dd2 has finally started to put on weight !!!

francagoestohollywood · 25/11/2008 20:58

hothell · 25/11/2008 21:38

Very happy for baby rosa, i know it is nerve racking.
Does everybody tehn dream about this bookshop idea then? and i thought i was the only one......
am i the only one spending most of the week not knowing what day of the week it is?

happychappy · 26/11/2008 06:41

Well done Rosa's DD.

My dreams not a bookshp but a language school. I'm working towards it.

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2008 12:29

Oh yes, I often dream about a bookshop. But mainly because it's me wanting to read the whole day. Have just finished to read "Easter Parade" by Richard Yates, I loved it.

Happy, tell us all about language school. Could I send my dc when we are in le marche?

OP posts:
Rosa · 26/11/2008 13:17

Franca you should be reading white Christmas at this time of the year
Is the easter Parade the same as the film - I adore all the musicals, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire etc etc and my easter Parade video snapped ( Oh no Rosa confesses to another dark secret !)
I don't know if I would like to own / run a bookshop maybe an second hand one - this one in Venice is by far my fav shop in Venice as it is so chilled out and nice and even though I pay Eu5- Eu8 for a second hand book I liked that in Venice you could go and sit and read an nobody bothered you !
as for langage school good idea again am not sure if i would have the paitence... but having said that i am thinking of doing a tefal !!!!

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2008 13:39

!!!
No it is not the same as the movie (oh I love judy garland!!!), it is this. Pretty depressing though, so i wouldn't recommend it to a puerpera !!!
How's dd1 doing? Does she enjoy being a big sister?

Wow - hasn't everyone been busy. My work has got busy so haven't had a chance to catch up properly. But very useful info in the last week for me! Firstly, I've been nervous about this whole weighing thing here in Italy - my health visitor in England told me not to worry about it, and I only went every couple of weeks at the begining and then every couple of months! Also, have been considering the whole Partita IVA issue - will probably carry on as is without one. Especially given that I will have to go on mat leave from End March.

The scan went well and I managed not to cry. I did cave in and we know the sex but aren't tell anyone - mean aren't we!

Rosa - glad dd2 is putting on weight and it sounds as if she is generally happy. My HV in UK told me to trust my instincts - if that helps you at all! Why is it that they need weighing so often here?

My dh wanted to set up an English school - he did the TEFL so we could move over here, but ended up being offered another office job...hence the lack of English school. Although judging by the demand I think there is potential. Maybe we need to consider it some more. Just small scale for the moment though.

It was also useful to hear that it is better to use the UK ebay - as I've scanned the ITalian ebay and it never seems crammed with stuff. Now I just need to take some pictures of all the stuff I want to sell and spend an evening sorting it all out.

Franca - good luck with the studying for the midwifery, sounds lovely to me...both that and teaching have appealed to me at some point - but I need to get my Italian up to scratch before I can even consider it. Maybe this time next year I can think about retraining...

Pippi - sorry about your dh, I hope you are all doing well and I hope you have a team of friends/family who can rally round - otherwise it will have to be virtual rallying from us all here!

Better do half hour of work before picking ds up from asilo..

gio71 · 26/11/2008 18:05

well done Rosa dd2!
Your bookshop sounds bliss

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2008 22:05

Oh Tantik, aren't you going to tell us ???

So with dp, have got some flu type virus, temperature, aching limbs etc and he was due to meet his mates tonight for their weekly jamming session with his band. So I waited this morn for him to say, don't worry, will come straight back this evening and will cancel my plans and he didnt (bear in mind I NEVER ask him to cancel his plans). So in the end I said, is the no way you can cancel this evening and after much huffing he agreed. FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cant't believe I had to ask!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sputnik · 27/11/2008 12:38

Hope you're feeling better soon Gio.
Bloody annoying isn't how you have to spell stuff out to them.

Anyone read "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus"? It's blindingly obvious stuff and you can get the gist of it in about 30 minutes reading, but it's actually quite true.

(slurping down francas soup gratefully)- never read it Sputnik but am absolutely sure would agree with 100% of it!!!!!!!!!!
Auguri for the other day by the way Franca, did you have a lovely day?

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2008 13:56

Thank you dear, no, I didn't do anything special really, Tuesday is usually a busy day here, as we get home quite late (me and ds from his swimming lessons, dh from work) and knackered. But dh bought a cake and the dc made me a shopping bag (with the help of thrifty mil) .
Do you think you have l'australiana???

OP posts:
gio71 · 27/11/2008 14:03

i dont know, any idea what the symptoms are?

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2008 14:09

here: febbre, dolori muscolari, infiammazione delle vie respiratorie e tosse. Sintomi che, avverte, «la maggior parte delle persone può superare con il riposo e il ricorso a farmaci antipiretici e antifebbre». Gli antibiotici, conclude l'esperto, vanno invece usati con cautela.

OP posts:
gio71 · 27/11/2008 14:18
