Ciao, hello, welcome!

I've had my English and French colleagues on the phone all day talking about what an idiot our Mr De Vito Berlusconi is. My French colleagues even made a joke about how stupid the Italians must be to have voted for him 4 times! (yep, and they almost got Le Pen as president, let's not forget that).

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 15:06

Have you ever been on the Usborne website? I spotted tons of books I'l love to get the dc for Christmas. There is even one about ww2 that ds would love. I'm addicted!
What are you getting your dd? dd wants bambole and a winx dvd

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 15:06

I'l? I'd

DD also wants bambole. We are already infested with bambole! She's also seen a twin pushchair she likes as her cheapo 5 euro one only carries 1 doll at a time. Toy twin pushchair costs 70 euro. The real one (which is what she's really after) costs 400 euros.

Every day she asks for something new, I really must start writing things down so at least I have some ideas.

I've seen a Playmobil castle in the Esselunga catalogue. Shame it's not a dolls' house but I'm sure I can convince her to like the castle.

Brangelina · 07/11/2008 15:32

I've never been on the Usborne website, although my sister used to rave about them. I think someone on here sells them.

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 16:32

dd has the playmobil take along doll's house (it's like a valigetta), she played with it a lot last yr, but has ignored it for months.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 07/11/2008 17:04

no bambole here! must love usborne website, love their books!

PippiCalzelunghe · 07/11/2008 17:05

want to get playmobil smthng for dd1. she loves such things. maybe the hospital? what do you think? must look at their website too, then find discount store.

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 17:10

www.amazon.com/Playmobil-5763-Take-Along-Pippi dd has the dollshouse, and she really enjoyed it, even though she's been ignoring it for a while.
Another big hit for us has been the airplane which ds received when he was 3 and still plays with it (weird, he ignored it for a while and has rediscovered it recently).

I remember the dc saw the ad for the hospital when we were still in the uk, but it was a whopping 149 pounds, or something like that!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 17:11

sorry I got the website wrong for some reasons here

Oh, we're addicted to Playmobil down here....Dd has the airport and the modern house and plays with it looooooads...this Christmas I've got her the supermarket....
I get all mine from ebay (German ebay usually cheaper for Playmobil)

She wants a Cicciobello bua wotsit....bleargh. Am trying to flog unwanted birthday presents (have house full of winx/brats/wall clocks with babies on (!!) and am ebaying the lot in the hope of buying bloody cicciobello with the money....She also wants those breastfeeding cats....(which makes all my English friends howl with laughter)

The Playmobil hospital is about £75 now on some sites....There's a playmobil thread somewhere (Xmas 2008 maybe) with a link to a cheap Playmobil site in the UK if you could get someone there to send it out to you?

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 18:57

dd wants cicciobello bua too: it is 74 euro at upim!!! With that money I'd rather buy her a corolle doll (snob emoticon)...

Pippi lives in the UK, so she could get lots of Playmobil for us and send it down here . I found that Playmobil was cheaper in the UK than in Italy. Toys in general seems cheaper in the UK.

I should really take the plunge and start using ebay. I have a pair of marc Jacobs shoes I only wore once (I know, I know, it was for my brother's wedding). I should sell them, shouldn't I. They are gorgeous though and would like to keep them for dd (I would have loved vintage shoes from my mum as a teenager )

OP posts:
Sputnik · 07/11/2008 20:24

Second that about ebay, I now have 2 large boxes of stuff I'm suposedly going to ebay.

Still don't know what I'm getting my lot for xmas, DD wants a garden for her dollshouse, apparently, and a trampoline, which I'd rather get in the summer really, assuming I can find one. No tv here at least means she doesn't know what a cicciobello or winx are. Yet.

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 20:33

A garden for her doll's house sounds lovely!
I'm afraid dd knew about winx even before moving back to Italy. I think they learn by osmosis, given that here in our flat we don't have any digital/sky and therefore they just watch dvds with no adverts... (must confess they saw the cicciobello advert at inlaws... even ds wants one ).

OP posts:
Sputnik · 07/11/2008 21:40

Well that would be the advantage of DD not really speaking Italian then
WTF are winx anyway?

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2008 21:46

winx. They are terribly tacky.

Yes, it is an advantage. I had the same with the dc when we were in the UK... for a while at least, until ds "discovered" power rangers at nursery...

OP posts:
Sputnik · 07/11/2008 22:18

Well even I know what they look like. Half the clothes around for DD's age have winx on them.

happychappy · 08/11/2008 14:01

Happychappy:

  • Rosa had her dd2 after a quick birth on nov the 5th, a whopping 3.8 kg
  • me and Brangelina fancy scamarcio, but Bucharest - who knows him in real life - claims he has love handles
  • Berlusconi is an idiot

Rosa, congrats, aw I love babies

I only have eyes for my husband!!!!!

Berlusconi is an idiot. This is news!!!! He's always been an idiot.

The Marche is an area which is very traditional and its always been very introspective but I have noticed over the last year people, in general, are far more openly racist and negative about people not from Marche. My daughter was told not once but twice last week to go back to England! With the new government and all the law changes and the recentdiscussions I think my part of Italy is reverting back in a rather unpleasant way.

francagoestohollywood · 08/11/2008 17:40

yes, he's always been an idiot

HC, so sorry to hear about what was told to your dd. How old is she?
I think Italy has become more openly racist in the last 10 yrs, and outspoken members of the Lega Nord are certainly to blame.
I couldn't imagine any English politician saying the same things some Italian politicians have no shame to say on television etc. It is awful.

Yes, Marchigiani can be quite introspective and suspicious, they used to call me "magnagnocchi" . This summer I went back to the same village I used to go as a child/teenager etc and my acquaintances (sp???) there made me feel very welcome. I was in shock!!! Didn't expect it at all.

Congratulazioni Rosa! Ahh, the smell of babies....
Glad your dh is getting better with his collasso polmonare, scary sounding name.
Hope you are all well girls, been celebrating Obama winning, but what did Berlusca say? That thing about Obama being abbronzato?
I feel so happy with my beatiful children, i am living on a little fluffy cloud....

francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2008 10:34

Ciao hot, always good to hear from you .
I did celebrate Obama's victory!!! not sure Mr Berlusconi was as happy, I also think he is very envious of the fact that Obama is young and attractive.
Come on tell us the name of your dd! At least the initial

OP posts:
happychappy · 09/11/2008 11:40

go on tell us.

Last night us expats here introduced the Fanese to Guy Fawlkes night. We did a ghost walk in the olive grove and had the bonfire, firworks, hot potatos and chilli. Yes they were very bemused but also the minority (more English/Americans/swiss/canadians etc than anything).

My daughter loved it because there were so many different mixes of families she saw that she wasn't the only one like her but there were lots of people like her and our family. She said in the middle of the party this parties great you everyones like me! I felt a little sorry and happy at the same time (as well as a bit guilty for putting her through something so dificult). Just because I've never had a problem with being a bit of everything I assumed she wouldn't.

Belusconi is great for entertainment value though no????

francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2008 12:32

Glad you had a nice night out, sounds like good fun.

Yes, I suppose Berlusconi is entertaining. Though he also makes me want to bang my head against a wall.
