Just thought we should start a September thread

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on UAN, hope it's good news and acceptance's all round

brooke77 - He's 8 months -

I also think that the agencies are short of newborns so if people have their act together they are more likley to be accepted then (might account for some babies which I wouldn't choose to model!!) By the time most mums have got their act together and able to get out of the house before lunchtime the competition is higher!!

Serenbach · 27/09/2008 18:34

Totalfloaty - your DD has done ever so well getting straight jobs, she's very lucky and I hope my DD ends up being as successful. Sorry I'm new to this forum so don't know everyone's history which Agency was your DD with at first and is she know with UA?

Serenbach · 27/09/2008 18:37

Crikey I can't spell today I meant is she 'now' with UA not 'know' !!!!

MelodyDaisy · 27/09/2008 20:44

Hi Serenbach, how old is your dd? I am still fairyl new to it all too, just take it all in your stride and enjoy

DD was with KL and had 2jobs and 4castings in 18months,so she not had much really. She moved to BK,been with them a few weeks now, this is first job with them but my other dd was with them and had lots of castings and a film job.My baby is with u/a,well she nearly 2 but she not had anything for 6 months not even a casting, but i dont like her current web pics,i hope it will pick up when they are changed as before they went up she was doing great. Also more work goes to the 3-9yr olds, boys tend to work more than girls when older. I think thats to do with boys toys, they do race cars etc for longer.Girls stop playing with dolls and stuff earlier.
Melodys eldest is doing really well with lots of tv ad castings, i think tv advertisers like using kids 6-11ish older ones easier to direct. All my eldest castings seems to be tv/film.When younger she was sent to lots of photographic stuff.
If your child a bit older and likes acting then go with AK or Scallywags as they do lots of tv.Younger kids who are better with photographic should try KL,B&B,ES,NC etc.
My kids have been with B&B, KL,BK,MOT,UA.THEY HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN BY ES,we live out of london,NC have always turned us down, and B&B have turned all of them down twice and accepted 2 of them twice.

MelodyDaisy · 27/09/2008 21:32

Blimey Totally, you've been around the block so to speak

Do all your DC love doing it? Or does one love it more than the others? My DS1 is just so comfortable with going in to a casting with complete strangers and acting a scene with them, comes out beaming. DD is beautiful, but like all girl's she can get a little 'mardy pants' at times, we just never know when DS2, will have his first job on Monday, but he's also really comfy and easy going so will enjoy all of it I think.

sobusy · 27/09/2008 22:06

MelodyDaisy, good luck with the job on Monday. My two DC have just been taken on with UA North so haven't done any work yet. Loved the casting though.

marymay · 27/09/2008 22:29

Sobusy...glad you found the thread
thorpe park was exhausting.

sobusy · 27/09/2008 22:33

Thanks for the recommendation, loving it, loads of info.

Bet it was busy!& hope you had a good day.

Good luck to everyone on this thread from a newbie.

sobusy · 27/09/2008 22:40

Glad to see I'm not the own one surfing mumsnet and netmums, modeling! Shouldn't we all be out having a life?!!!

MelodyDaisy · 27/09/2008 22:52

I suppose we should Have no money now though due to having so many castings/jobs to get to the past 6 weeks, be so much easier when they start getting the fees come back!!
How old are your dc?

OP posts:
totallyfloaty35 · 27/09/2008 23:13

Hi Melody,Eldest dd is 13 and been modelling since birth so we been with a few agents..She is very good at photographic and theatre but not tv,10yr old better at acting but is slow to warm up so doesnt do so great at castings as they over so quick, she has done a toys r us job(i know your youngest about to do one) and its still up in the bike section, its been there for nearly 3years lol.
Baby has just got to the trouble stage,2yr olds tend to wander off instead of doing what they are asked, she did loads in her first year and is in the Annabel Karmel cook book.At least i have some print work if she never does anything else , but they all enjoy it.
Are you getting casting fees for the tv jobs? we always got told they dont pay we live on south coast so castings can work out so expensive, its £50 before 10am im very fond of afternoon jobs and castings for that reason

sobusy · 27/09/2008 23:13

MelodyDaisy,

Well done on all the jobs. Hope my two are equally successful. Although it does sound expensive. DD is 11 and DS is 7. Just taken on with UA North. Sorry new to this thread so what about you?

sobusy · 27/09/2008 23:20

Totallyfloaty, great name.
Any advice for my 11yrs old DD. New to this.

MelodyDaisy · 27/09/2008 23:36

Totally, don't think the tv or commercial castings DS1 has attended have given casting fees . We had to go to London 3 times early morning costing £56 each time
Although not had any fees back yet but I know DD photographic casting we'll get some money and on DS1 and DS2 Toys R Us jobs they will get travel fees too, which is more than what it will cost in petrol which is good
My DD also can take a few minute's to warm up, shame they don't give them a few minute's just chatting to them beforehand

sobusy- I intend on taking out travel fees out of the money they may make to make it possible for me to keep taking them to London. I don't work and wouldn't be able to keep finding all these extra pennies from our income all the time. In my situation we have been 'not the norm' in how many jobs/castings my DS1 has had, BUT it has meant it has been VERY costly, but shouldn't normally be this costly. so don't panic too much

sobusy · 27/09/2008 23:42

MelodyDaisy, Thank you. Dreaming at the moment. Reality might hit soon, I hope. Then will have to assess the practicality and expense.

Will keep you posted.

liahgen · 28/09/2008 12:05

ladies, you really should be getting casting fees.

tv and commercials DO pay casting fees at £18, unless you are expressly told no casting fee, then you should be paid.

Serenbach · 28/09/2008 12:34

Melody, my DD is 4yrs old and has just been taken on by UAN. I've got two sons aged 3 and 7 who also want to get into the industry - I don't know whether to apply to UAN next spring or to put them with BK as they've both been accepted by them. (I'm running out of time though as they give you 28 days to respond).
Oh if only we could see into the future !!

TotallyF, your children have done ever so well and you've got so much experience as a 'model mum' we know where to come to for advice !

liahgen · 28/09/2008 16:46

totally,

if you don't mind me asking, why do you keep changing agencies?

totallyfloaty35 · 28/09/2008 18:17

liaghen, eldest dd was with diff agency to middle dd in london, then we moved and didnt do it for a while. When we started again all 3 of them were with diff agents, tried to put them all with B&b but they would only take 2 of them.Didnt like KL found them too abrupt to deal with although they are a top agency so moved to BK and MOT which 2 eldest are now both with.Baby with u/a has been since birth so thats why its so complicated

liahgen · 28/09/2008 21:55

ah lol, sorry just being nosy

I too have been in the business 13 yrs, since my eldest was baby, we started with bonnie kids, moved to Bubblegum, then because of competion between 2 good friends, we moved to KL.

Eldest doesn't do it now, she prefers musical theatre.

boys have just been accepted by young uns, so plan on staying with KL, and young uns.

busy busy.

MelodyDaisy · 28/09/2008 22:17

How is your DS now Liahgen? Hoping he's back to full health soon

My DS2 had been very ill for a long time and it makes me so proud to now see him about to do his first job and not missing out on it all.

meggsymoo · 28/09/2008 22:46

Hi Everyone
Been reading through all the posts with great interest. I have a 5 year old daughter who I would like to see if she 'has got what it takes' to become a child model. I am in the Dorset area, has anybody got any recommendation as to where I should start as seems a bit of a mine field!! Another question which is slightly random, she has a little friend at school who has done some work for Tesco's and Haven, any idea of whay agency does them, as the mummy is very reluctant to pass on any information to me. Thanks in advance for everybodys help.

brooke77 · 29/09/2008 07:51

hi meggysmoo.. i havent heard of haven, but tesco use a lot of different agencies.
lots of good london agencies that have kids on their books from out of london including rascals and scallywags.. i'm sure some other mums on here who live outside of london can advise u which others and if there are any close to u in dorset.. good luck with it !
