REALLY EMBARRASSING q about waxing "bits"

sillysally · 31/01/2005 15:36

I've changed my name I'm so embarrassed but I am a regular on here, honest!

Anyway, my inner labia protude about half an inch or so from the outer. I am so ashamed of this I can't bear to get a wax, which I would really like, particularly for the birth of my first baby. I would want the poor waxer to get right in to all my nooks and crannies down there ideally including, to be really gross and even more , between my buttocks

Has anyone here been in this predicament? What would/did you do?

I know there is similarly themed thread on here today, and that's what's got me thinking about it again.

Yup, so a couple of pubes would be neither here nor there I'd have thought.

A friend from collage days is a consultant in A & E and he one saw a man with a Brut bottle up his arse......but I digress

WigWamBam · 31/01/2005 19:52

Crikey, and people are worried about a few stray hairs!

lowcalCOD · 31/01/2005 19:56

wer yes you can bleed a lot
a dn then theres all the water

sillysally · 31/01/2005 20:12

HMB !

Aloha, you do have a very good point as to which lucky person I should present my hirsuit posterior

Y'know what, I think I'll invest in one of those bikini shavers

I'll get a red nightie....

aloha · 31/01/2005 20:37

There's nothing wrong with having a trim/wax/ whatever - I do have bikini waxes myself in summer - I just really think that it is the last thing on a midwife's mind! But if it makes you feel more comfortable, then I suppose that's important too. After all, it's your body. Good luck anyway.

beansontoast · 31/01/2005 20:39

my wee went wonky when i went pube-less!

it was really mad,it would swerve off to the left!

another true story

sillysally · 31/01/2005 20:45

Thanks

I think I'll be able to just about reach down there - those bikini shaver thingies are quite long and thin and should reach

Thanks for all your advice

I had a £2.99 Primark nightie as well it never came out the bag, I gave birth in a pink DKNY t-shirt I bought in New York 2 months beforehand. It didn't have a drop of blood on it I will treasure it forever!

The bleeding is a nightmare that first shower was like a scene from physco (spp) it's not all blood either I remember calling the midwife in to show her a teaplate size bit of goo (first time mums eh!!)

I do wish I had managed to keep my appointment for my wax but it's no big deal the state of down there afterwards whats a few hairs. And anyway you have this most beautiful little baby and things like that won't matter one bit.

KateandtheGirls · 31/01/2005 21:08

I laboured in a hospital gown.

jennifersofia · 31/01/2005 21:16

Gosh, Silly sally (makes me laugh as that is my mum's name...Sally, that is, not silly!) I was always a bit jealous of women with protruding bits as many men have told me that they found this quite sexy.
True what others say that most likely you won't be thinking about it, but really, you should do whatever means you will be most relaxed and comfortable.
By the way, have a good birth!

Branster · 31/01/2005 22:33

Sillysally, don't listen to all these scary stories. you'll be fine. You'll have a great birth and believe me, at the time the way you look will not cross your mind for one second. Trust me. I am one of those women who always makes sure everything is in its palce, no hairs here and there (deffinetely not at the back side!) and I didn't have a full wax down bellow for the birth because I was worried it might hurt and didn't want to scare myself whilst pregnant. I did do my bikini line and had a trim (sorry about the details), not the easiest things when you can't even see your toes, but it made me feel better. However, DD was about 10-11 days late, which meant I had to shave the bikini line when my contractions started because by then it started to grow back. Once in hospital, I couldn't give damn about such things and did actually laugh at myself for thinking it might matter. It doesn't. I also wore a nightie (very cheap one bought especially for the occasion, which I wouldn't wear again if you paid me, unless I give birth again ), still have it but cannot tell you how dirty it got because DH took it home and washed it (which I didn't want him to, but I had no idea he took it away).

Dahlia · 31/01/2005 23:23

I remember worrying about the state of my bits when I was pregnant first time round, so DH trimmed it all nicely for me with scissors, he did a marvellous job!

sillysally · 31/01/2005 23:42

LOL Sweetkitty - how nice of you to present your MW with that tasty "plate" of goo . LIke HMB said earlier "whatever they pay 'em it isn't enough!"

Jennifer - my dp always says there's nothing wrong with my bits, but I've always been weird about them. (I've actually enquired about "labial trimming" )

Branster, I can't imagine being so out of it that I would think things like that don't matter - I know it must be true though because so many people have said it. Guess I'll just have to find out the hard way

Your dh must have a very steady hand Dahlia - I wouldn't trust mine down there with a pair of scissors!

Jampots I pmsl at your earlier post about your ex work colleague - poor bloke! I wonder if the dancer did it on purpose??

can someone take me through the basics here? I have always assumed that "having your bikini line waxed" meant having a go at what was visible if you stood up straight, having a go at the bits that poke out of the side of your bikini. And that having a brazilian meant having a drastic go at what you can see stood up straight. All this talk of bending over and the nappy changing position is news to me. It is at once beguiling (I've learnt to live with my hairy bits but can't say I'm exactly fond of them) and eye-watering. Aren't some bits just too sensitive to wax? can someone who isn't shy explain all this in words of one syllable ?

sillysally · 31/01/2005 23:48

I wonder if anyone else will admit to having a hairy a**e, I certainly have never admitted to it on line, or in RL before today. It's very emancipating having a MN alter-ego

OP posts:
HunkerMunker · 31/01/2005 23:54

Aloha makes a very good point - how come you can all bend over and show your hairy bits and arse to a waxer but not to a midwife?!

I laboured in a nightie I've worn since - there's not a mark on it. And when you have a baby...your midwife sees your fanny, but she's more interested in your baby than whether it's you have a flappy fanny or a hairy mclairy (and for those worried about protruding bits...when you have a baby's head coming out of there, it doesn't do much for the aesthetics of aforementioned fanny anyway!).

Plus she may well need a magnifying glass to see if your arse is hairy or not through the piles you'll probably have from pushing so bloody hard

But do you know what? I'd do it all again tomorrow

sillysally · 01/02/2005 00:00

HM! so I'll have rule out that career as a clitoral piercing photographic model after all??

I did think Aloha had made a good point there too. That's when I decided I'd go for the bikini trimmer option

OP posts:
HunkerMunker · 01/02/2005 00:01

It does sound worse 'posted' than it did whilst I was writing it

Think you ought to have a second career option planned SS, yes

starlover · 01/02/2005 10:22

sillysally, i am tempted by the bikini trimmer too.... but i am scared that as I can't see much down there i'll cut myself...
do they have some kind of safety guard so that you can't do yourself a mischief?

i mean, you'd look far worse going in there with cuts all over your minge than a few stray hairs!!! LOL

sillysally · 01/02/2005 11:20

Oh dear! I've just started to look at different bikini shavers and trimmers and not sure which to get! this one looks ok so far, but not sure if it's got a nice straight edge for "precision" trimming, although it does seem to do an nice smooth shave, unlike a few I've been looking at this morning. I wonder if another thread is called for....

OP posts:
sillysally · 01/02/2005 11:30

Hatsoff - have a look at this I found in archives whilst doing a search for trimmers

OP posts:
mears · 01/02/2005 12:45

Remington one is good and has precise trimmer.

sillysally · 01/02/2005 13:03

oo - does it leave a smooth finish? Do you know which model it is?

OP posts:
CosmeticJunkie · 01/02/2005 14:35

I don't think your perceived problem is embarrassing tbh Sally. If it's any consolation, once you're in labour (hopefully) all those things will go out of the window!! It just wont be a priority. That said, I'm not that worried about my naked body i.e am happy to be naked in women's changing room without rushing and covering up. Got even more liberal post baby, whopping my boobs out to feed at every available opportunity !!!

Regarding, ahem, 'upkeep'. I always trim down there to keep things neat and tidy. I never shave to tidy up, re-growth itch is just not worth it . I always wax regularly and last summer, after months of wondering, I had a Brazilian Funnily enough, it wasn't as painful as a general wax, the area got so numb with repeated pulling I think !!! Afterwards it was all lovely and smooth and very soft! My problem was... that I had nothing to errrr catch the drips, if you get my drift?? Please say you do, don't want to elaborate anymore than that !!!

My birth prep included, half leg, underarm, bikini wax, eyebrow shape and facial

Hope that helps ???????

sillysally · 01/02/2005 14:41

I think so I could ask something about said "drips", but I won't.
