REALLY EMBARRASSING q about waxing "bits"

I've changed my name I'm so embarrassed but I am a regular on here, honest!

Anyway, my inner labia protude about half an inch or so from the outer. I am so ashamed of this I can't bear to get a wax, which I would really like, particularly for the birth of my first baby. I would want the poor waxer to get right in to all my nooks and crannies down there ideally including, to be really gross and even more , between my buttocks

Has anyone here been in this predicament? What would/did you do?

I know there is similarly themed thread on here today, and that's what's got me thinking about it again.

Um, hairy isn't the same thing as dirty. If you feel more comfortable waxed/shaved/dyed/braided, whatever, more power to you, but I'm sure midwives just care about people being reasonably clean!

jampots · 31/01/2005 17:36

my friend's friend who is a midwife used to complain more about dirty feet than anything else !!

KateandtheGirls · 31/01/2005 17:37

I wouldn't say I have hardly any hair down there, but it never occurred to me to get anything done to it pre-labour. I don't normally anyway, although these threads are making me think I'm very unusual in that ...

I don't think comparing it to going to a job interview in stinky dirty clothes is completely accurate.

mears · 31/01/2005 17:38

Please only wax or whatever 'down there' because you want to. Midwives do not care at all what you are like there, honestly

Roobie · 31/01/2005 17:39

Given the amount of post birth bleeding and the necessity to use sanitary 'mattresses' I am making sure this time round that I am at least trimmed in that department. I seem to remember a rather disconcerting attractive bloody 'matting' effect last time round!

jampots · 31/01/2005 17:40

so presumably better to reduce length rather than overall spread?

Roobie · 31/01/2005 17:41

yes, length is definitely the key rather than coverage!

sillysally · 31/01/2005 17:46

Why can't big 70's bushes be in at the moment along with yeti boots and gilets etc?

Never been bothered to wax any of my bits, pregnant or not. I have never felt the need. And having normal pubic hair is quite different to being dirty or smelly.

I've just always seem pubic hair as part of being an adult woman. Reading this thread is making me feel in a bit of a minority.

Dh has pubic hair, and I don't find him offensive either

oatcake · 31/01/2005 17:51

as mears and I have said midwives are not bothered about pubes! only stinky feet! man! they are the worst!

i am too lazy to wax/shave/do anything. Not that I haven't in the past.. but I can't be bothered to make it part of my (non-existent) beauty routine!

so i am au naturel!

actually, that's a slight lie... i do TRIM, because as someone else pointed out, it's the length rather than the overall spread that makes the difference!

I guess size DOES matter! ROFL

stitch · 31/01/2005 17:55

im beginning to feel bullied here. everytime i post an opinion on mumsnet, i get a lot of negative feedback. am i being overly sensitive, or does no one like me?
its a case of being groomed. a professional will not comment on any aspect of the person in labour, but since that is going a place that is going to be on show, then it makes sense to be resonably groomed down there. and yes, the first part of that is cleanliness. and probly the next thing is trimming to prevent the matted effect . icht!
smelly feet are also unsocaible. but its all down to personal ideas.

mears · 31/01/2005 17:56

Forgot to say the only thing to make sure about 'down there' is that piecings are removed before labour because they can cause traume. I started a thread about that before - I hate having to take out cliroral rings.

mears · 31/01/2005 17:56

Agree about the feet

starlover · 31/01/2005 18:02

oh stitch... i don't want you to feel i am picking on you... but saying that having unruly pubic hair is dirty, or implying that by saying that trimming it is the first step to cleanliness...

well, isn't that like saying people with long hair have dirty hair?

you can have completely unshaven pubic hair and still keep it clean! it doesn't have to be short... you just have to wash!

i don't think anyone meant to "bully" you, but probably felt like you were saying they were unclean just because they don't wax/shave....

starlover · 31/01/2005 18:04

mears... is that because the whole area gets stretched? or some other reason that I can't think of?
I can't imagine anything worse than taking out someone elses piercing!

i am supposed to be starting my midwifery training in sept... maybe i'll think again!!!

oatcake · 31/01/2005 18:05

mears! I'd never thought about piercings! I assume this will be a typical job for the student to do!

stitch, no bullying I don' think, but re-read what you read. Although I dislike my pubes immensly, for someone to tell me I was rude for not having managed to negotiate my lardy belly to trim myself prior to birth, is not on.

mumsnetters do let you know when they're unhappy abuot something - and I've mentioned it before that some responses are a bit snappy, but just re-read your original contribution.

cheers. off to watch the simpsons now.

stitch · 31/01/2005 18:07

i think i am probly being a bit oversensitive, there was a thread about a week ago in which everyone seemed to be upset by what i had said. and i havent been on mumsnet much since. i know i am not very tactful at saying what i mean, so thankyou for clarifying it star.

sillysally · 31/01/2005 18:08

Aw Stitch! I thought your post was funny!

I'm far from fastidious in the old body hair deptartment normally, but I think I want to be extra groomed in labour because you lose so much autonomy in other ways. I'll also be wearing a cute nightie thing and really nice long socks (so no one's subjected to my horrid, but clean, feet, and I will be having the toenails varnished just in case I have to take socks off if I get too hot, AND I'll be wearing a bit of makeup including waterproof mascara.

Eww Mears - I can't believe people let you take their percings out, that can't be nice - do they just forget to do it themselves?

OP posts:
happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 18:11

I don't give a flying fig what people do with their own pubes. It is none of my buisness. However I do object to people describing my pubic hair as akin to having dirty nails of wearing dirty, smelly clothes.

Keeping ones pubic hairs clean is quite simple. All youi need to do is wash!

It is a personal issue but I would far rather do that than have my hairs ripped out. Having pubic hairs is quite natural and i am quite clean thanks.

starlover · 31/01/2005 18:12

stitch, i have done the same tihng a couple of times! i think the problem is that online no-one can tell what kind of tone you're taking, and the context gets confused... it's so easy to mis-read what people are saying!
But don't get upset by it...

I would have thought that you could always reach to take out a piercing....you might need a mirror but if you can wipe your bum you must be able to reach your bits?
