REALLY EMBARRASSING q about waxing "bits"

sillysally · 31/01/2005 15:36

I've changed my name I'm so embarrassed but I am a regular on here, honest!

Anyway, my inner labia protude about half an inch or so from the outer. I am so ashamed of this I can't bear to get a wax, which I would really like, particularly for the birth of my first baby. I would want the poor waxer to get right in to all my nooks and crannies down there ideally including, to be really gross and even more , between my buttocks

Has anyone here been in this predicament? What would/did you do?

I know there is similarly themed thread on here today, and that's what's got me thinking about it again.

Sorry you feel picked on, stitch, I don't think anyone has picked on you, but I can understand why people have felt a bit defensive; I did, too. Go back and read your post again, and look at it from the point of view of someone like me who is quite happy with their hair. You say that it's "good manners" to get rid of hair (thereby implying that we are bad mannered for not doing so, you compare untrimmed pubes with being filthy, stinky and dirty, then you call perfectly normal public hair "repulsive".

And then you wonder why people defend themselves?

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 18:22

Must confess I am ignorent of that one too

Don't realy 'get' why you would want one either if I am being honest. Must bloody hurt. Ear lobes are one thing but there are a hell of a lot of nerve endings there, unlike the ear!

sillysally · 31/01/2005 18:26

I think it's a sex thing (What's that? forgotten)

www, im expressing my opinion. as i am not a midwife, docotor, or beautician, the only pubic hair i have any experience of, is my own. and i think my pubic hair is disgusting. when long, it is thick and wiry and black, and impossible to keep clean. if i havent trimmed before my periods, then i cant use pads as just disgucting and have to use tampons.
maybe its a family, or racial thing, coz all my sisters, and friends say they have disgusting pubic hair as well. and most of us do wax normally.
i dont mean to pick on anyone, or imply that anyone else is dirty. so if my post made anyone feel that way, im sorry.

aloha · 31/01/2005 18:29

Is this for real? Forgive me but I cannot see why any heavily pregnant woman (or to be absolutely honest, any woman at all) would want her ar*s waxed.
As for 'dirty and repulsive' - speak for yourself!

Branster · 31/01/2005 18:42

sillysally, honestly, don't worry about it! they've seen it all before the midwives, they're probably more likely to comment on 'the woamn with her brazilian that gave birth' if at all really.
i ahven't seen many (apart from magazines of course but not in real life) so i don't know exactly how are they supposed to look, but i'm pretty certain you look perfectly normal.
as for the waxing scenario: if you have never had it done before, are you not worried you might get scared beforehand because of the possible pain? Perfectly normal, i know, but if you're pregnant you don't want to be experience any king of trauma and big emotions if you can avoid it.
best to elave it after the birth to experiment with such techniques.
the best gift you can give yourself is to keep doing the kegel exercises all the time.

lowcalCOD · 31/01/2005 18:46

silly sally lol about your cute nightie! ready fo it to be soaked in blood?
lol

highlander · 31/01/2005 18:55

well I was extremely disappointed that the theatre staff didn't comment on my super duper bikini wax. I had an extra special thorough one done just for the occasion. Glad I did; wouldn't like to have had excess hair with all that lochia floating about.

sillysally · 31/01/2005 19:07

Aloha, that'll be because you're confident and don't have hang ups! Also, you've probably not got a hairy arse or pubes half way down your thighs. my dp says my pubes are like razor wire (which helps!)

Cod! I won't bleed that much surely!

Branster - I only ever do Kegels when the word pops up on MN to remind me I'm going to prolapse aren't I?

Ooh Highlander - what's lochia?

I would have thought having your bits waxed just prior to childbirth was pretty good preparation. After that, the pain from the birth itself would be a doddle .

Never had it done myself and never considered it in any way, shape or form. My older sister had her children when it was an automatic part of the process to be shaved and have an enema before going into the labour room. Her description of how it felt when the hairs grew back probably put me off that for life.

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 19:10

Silly sally re the bleeding, er yes! I bled like a stuck pig, and I had a section so was intact down below. Even with the super dooper matress pads I bled after the birth so much I leaked. Let alone the bleeding you do whan you deliver. Others better qualified will be round I'm sure. Even though I had a section I threw away the nighty I laboured in

doggiewalker · 31/01/2005 19:11

For Gods sake don't do it! why should the midwives and doctors care anyway, they're concentrating on other things! Who would want to shove their arse in a stranger's face anyway? Not me thanks!

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 19:13

And jeezypeeps (meaning no disrespect to anyone who does do this for a living) who would want to wax someones arse?????!!!!!

Bloody hell whatever they pay 'em it isn't enough!

oatcake · 31/01/2005 19:15

lol! lochia refers to blood loss. I kept my nightie as a souvenir - it was only £2.99 from primark!

jampots · 31/01/2005 19:18

doggiewalker - thats just reminded me. An ex work colleague (who is very unlucky) went with his mate to Spearmint Rhino (lap club) and his "dancer"'s backside apparently smelt of poo [bleurgh]

doggiewalker · 31/01/2005 19:18

[barf] LOL

oatcake · 31/01/2005 19:19

not the one in slough! dh went there and said it was full of big russian ladies.

jampots · 31/01/2005 19:19

no the one in Brum - now if ever there was a need to be neat and clean - surely its that!!!

Lonelymum · 31/01/2005 19:34

Completely off the point, but why do people throw away their nighties after bleeding on them during or after labour? Haven't you heard of washing powder? It is pretty good at getting out all sorts of stains you know!

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 19:38

True . But I couldn't face the damn thing after 2 days of labour!

Lonelymum · 31/01/2005 19:40

Next time, (what next time I hear you shout) do as I did in my last labour and go naked throughout. Talk about loss of dignity!

aloha · 31/01/2005 19:41

Sillysally, why not just have a regular wax then? I really do fail to see why it is more embarrassing to show your perfectly natural hairs to a seen-it-all professional medical person with more important things on their mind than to some looks-obsessed beautician with nothing better to think about than how much hair you do or do not have. If I had the choice about who saw my bum, I know who I'd choose!

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 19:42

No chance! I am 42 and that is too old for me to do it again (everyone sets their own age cut off btw). That and I was 'done' when I had ds, also by section. No chance 42, two sections, two lots of pre eclampsia....I think I'll quit while I'm ahead!

happymerryberries · 31/01/2005 19:45

Oh and regarding the 'seen everything' bit. Dh's uncle is a doctor and once saw a woman with a wine glass stuck in her 'bits' while he was training as a gynae. A hairy arse would pale into insignificance I think!

WigWamBam · 31/01/2005 19:47

A wine glass??
