New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

3 loads <preens> and I did one last night too, so it was practically dry by morning. Hoping the chainsaw doesn't return tomorrow, particularly before 9am, as it was going on for most of the day. I thought it was only the tall trees being taken down, but a large area is razed to the ground - surprised it was done during nesting season and sad that I won't see squirrels in those trees any more - they were always fun to watch from my bed on lazy weekend mornings.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/05/2026 22:30

<crawls into tav>
I'm tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired and a bit achey. I have been out of the house 15 hours and am having some food before a quick bath and bed.

Warm here, but a bit breezy (wonderful drying weather) so if you were in the wind and in the shade I did consider throwing my fleece on a couple of times.

<cbf> at the trees being cut down, and ApricotDD having a tricky garden job. Hurrah for fixed toilets and general chilling in the nice weather.

<collapses in hayloft>

Morning all, it's bright and sunny and I'm meant to be leaving in 5 mins - argh!!!!!!

Have a good day all.

Morning wenches.

That sounds like you had a very full on day Helen. Hope the weather stays good and the event’s successful.

Also <cbf> at the trees coming down. Poor squirrels and birds coming back and going “wtf where’s my house?!”

Sun’s out, one wash out and another on the go and flapjacks are cooling.

Have lovely days wenches.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 24/05/2026 11:25

I bet your hair looks fantastic Letus! I have a problem with my hair looking frumpy and very much like steel wool. But I'm too lazy to do anything about it Grin

Congrats to DS for being a homeowner Fancy Smile

Meteorite welcome Smile

Very impressed by all the work MrApes is doing all the time Smile

Sounds like you're having an exhausting weekend Helen.

I planted some flowers yesterday and put out some solar cell lights here and there. Today I'm planning to chop down a rose bush that is blocking my kitchen window, I have no idea what I'm doing, I just plan to chop away at it Grin

Fräsan is doing fine at the moment, hope it lasts.

ApricotCrush · 24/05/2026 15:41

Afternoon. IT’S HOT! I’ve put the summer duvet on the bed. It’ll probably go cold again next week now.

I thought there was a law against chopping trees down in the nesting season. Very upsetting.

Hope all is going well with the event Helen.

Your garden sounds lovely WW. Pleased that Fräsan is well.

We’re having an impromptu BBQ for the family later which necessitated a visit to Sainsbury’s this morning.

LetUsPrey · 24/05/2026 19:14

Evening wenches.

<swishes hair> although it only swishes just after hairdresser has dried it. My hair isn’t really going grey. It’s gone beige. I have beige hair.

Lots of washing done. Sat outside for a little while very late in the afternoon once there was some shade.

Good news re Fräsan and your gardening Wicked.

Enjoy the family barbecue Apricot.

FancyFancy · 24/05/2026 21:49

<melts> it's still 21 degrees outside

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/05/2026 23:13

Tiiiiiiired. Saw the posh-looking floofy cat again. Internet suggests it may be a birman. Also surprised a red deer, who wasn't sure what a lanky mushroom was doing in the middle of the road (it was dusk but I was wearing my wide-brimmed sunhat still - it was that or carry it).

<arf> at 'beige' hair LetUs - I think mine is similar. My grandmother said hers was 'rich mouse' which sounds nice than 'dirty blonde'. Not sure what colour that is actually.

Need to get to bed for Day 3 tomorrow. Hope that Apricot had a fun BBQ, and Wicked is enjoying her newly tidied garden, and that Fancy hasn't melted.

Morning wenches.

😁 At lanky mushroom Helen. Also at deee thinking what the heck?!

Have just put some washing out. It’s very pleasant, soon to turn into stupid hot though.

Good luck on the last day of the sale Helen.

Have great days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 25/05/2026 15:05

Afternoon. Still very hot, the app says 31 degrees. I was going to sit outside in the shade but DH has decided to put the sprinkler on the lawn, right by my sitting area. It’s also by the washing line, so the washing has had to come in. It’s dry but I didn’t tell him that.

<googles birman> very cute. Lol at lanky mushroom.

Grin at LetUs’s beige hair. I’ve no idea what colour mine is, I presume it’s all over grey by the roots which are telling me it’s time to put a colour on it.

Hope everyone’s had a good day and managed to keep cool.

LetUsPrey · 25/05/2026 19:47

Evening wenches.

It’s been stupid hot and I don’t like it. DH is loving it.

Haven’t done much. Finished a blanket which has come out larger than anticipated and in hindsight perhaps wasn’t the wisest choice of activity today 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hope wenches haven’t melted and had good days.

FancyFancy · 25/05/2026 21:26

Evening.
I'm with you letus it's far too hot. Goodness only knows how Helen has coped all weekend. I've not done much - a bit more washing & gardening and lots of wilting.

I think I may have sat under the sprinkler apricot 😁

Glad to hear Frasan is ok for now

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/05/2026 22:08

Evening wenches. I am very fucking tired. On the plus side I got home at 7:30, not 9:30, so a slightly shorter day due to a herculean team effort by end of show clean-up helpers.

I don't know what temperature it was here. Someone said it was 30 according to the car. At least we were under a gazebo. The greenhouse thermometer said it went up to 49.9 in there 😱

Kittens have apparently been flaked out all day today - understandable.

<crawls into hayloft>

LetUsPrey · 26/05/2026 07:02

Morning wenches.

Wilting is exactly the word Fancy. Surely that greenhouse temperature would just make things combust Helen?

Very warm already here so the office is going to be super pleasant 🙄

<sets airblades going>

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/05/2026 09:04

Morning all. Everything went very wilted - hopefully perked up overnight after watering.

Today I am still tired and still achey. Ho hum. Today I think we should all be followed about by HBFs carrying airblades to make life bearable Grin (Mine can also put it down occasionally to give me a gentle massage.)

ApricotCrush · 26/05/2026 16:11

Afternoon. It’s too hot and I can’t stand it. I’m just sitting with the window open and a fan and knitting. I can’t do anything requiring any more effort. DH has gone to play golf with DS at his club. I don’t know where he gets the energy. It’s looking a bit less hot tomorrow.

Actually that’s a good idea Fancy, I should have done that.

Hope Helen’s been able to have a bit of a rest after her hectic weekend and LetUs’s office hasn’t been too hot.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/05/2026 17:45

<trying very hard not to make a rude joke about my tidy garden> Grin

LetUsPrey · 26/05/2026 20:42

Evening wenches.

😁 Wicked

Office was awful, even more so than usual. By early afternoon it was so stuffy and hot. We’re only in May.

<side eyes> at MrApricot and enjoying golf in this weather. What is it with these heat resistant men.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/05/2026 23:38

Evening all. It's been another hot one (not of the HBF sort either). I did a wash today and it will have dried very quickly. But then I went out and it was getting dark and cooled down when I came back and I figured I'd just leave it overnight. Now it's raining, so extra rinse is in progress. There is also thunder, but it's some way off. We're watching on lightningmaps.org

Shock at MrA heading out to golf in this! (The heat, not the thunder.)

I should go to bed - have been up late doing birthday-related things for DS... (cake, wrapping, etc)

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 27/05/2026 06:46

Morning wenches.

Is it NotSoMiniHelen’s birthday today? If so, a big happy birthday to him. And here’s hoping you can get a rest at some point.

Forecast to be not quite as warm today so I’ll have to find something else to moan about. I’m sure I’ll manage that quite well 😁

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/05/2026 11:15

Morning. The washing dried again overnight, I don't think we had much rain. It's a bit cooler today, but I've drowned the plants on the patio anyway.

We are off out for birthday activity for DS. (The cake still needs to be iced...) Hope everyone has a good day.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 27/05/2026 16:41

Afternoon. A bit cooler which is a relief. I put a colour on my hair roots this morning. I do the back with the aid of two mirrors in the bathroom which are an indication of how much height I’m losing. I used to be able to see perfectly but I have to stand on tiptoe now. Shock

Happy Big Birthday to HelenDS, hope he has a lovely day.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 27/05/2026 18:55

Evening wenches.

Yes, definitely cooler today although it seems warmer now than it has done during the day.

<admires Apricot’s hair> perhaps the mirrors are getting higher in much the same way that something in the air in my wardrobes shrinks my clothes.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/05/2026 23:34

Evening all. I have stayed up too late again, mooching online.

I think it's been a fun day, though icing the cake felt like 'chocolate day' in the 'Bake Off' tent - the buttercream icing wanted to slide off the cake the second it came out of the fridge, even though it was much cooler today. Confused.

LOL at Apricot's mirrors moving higher up the wall Grin
