New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Oh thank fuck it seems to have ended. Half an hour late. 8 hours of it, about six of which were really quite loud, especially on a day when all the doors and windows are open. Definitely worse than in previous years grumps>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 20/06/2026 22:08

Evening all. FFS at noisy fetes and lack of sleep. It's hot and humid here too, despite some rain this evening.

I have not really RTFT, and am going to bed because last night's lack of sleep has caught up with me...

LetUsPrey · 21/06/2026 07:18

Morning wenches.

I’ll grump along with you Fancy at the excessively loud music.

Hope you slept better Helen.

Horrid dreams and woke up at 1, finally got back to sleep but then woke at 5.30 so thought I might as well get up. Ironing’s done, washing is out and ongoing.

Usual Sunday here hopefully.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/06/2026 09:47

Urgh LetUs Sad. I think you need to go back to the hayloft for a snooze.

Today I'm playing 'fox and goose and bag of grain' with various things to do, and DS has thrown "I have a date and need to be taken here" into the mix overnight. Gah! My first thought was 'well you can walk to the bus stop then, because we actually have a bus that goes there!' Except of course it's Sunday isn't it. We don't have buses on Sunday... <le enormous sigh>
DH has been up to get coffee and then gone back to bed, DS has not emerged yet. Unsurprising since he WhatsApped about his date at about 2:30 am)

Currently cloudy and cool. I need to check the weather...

Have a good day all.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 21/06/2026 11:52

I didn't watch the game, which was a good thing since our team got slaughtered Grin I'm not that into football anymore, I was in the olden days, I even went on an 18 hour horrendous bustrip to Berlin in 2006, because the plane tickets cost a fortune Confused not ever doing that mistake again
I watched Grace instead, that crime series is really good!

Glad you had a good time in Italy Letus Smile

I'm sure Misty is really interested in MrApes golf tales Grin

You've never seen a Star Wars movie Fancy and Apes? Shock I even have Kylo Ren and Darth Vader Build-A-Bears Grin

Hope you had a good night's sleep Helen.

ApricotCrush · 21/06/2026 16:53

Afternoon. Nice day, cloud and sun and it's definitely warming up. Both DC came round earlier for Father's Day which was nice.

I started off rather envying your music Fancy, but 8 hours is too much, particularly with all the windows open. .

Glad you enjoyed your holiday LetUs. I'm a great fan of croissants, especially with golden syrup in the middle. Very calorie-laden, but I don't care.

You sound busy for a Sunday Helen. Hope DS enjoys his date.

No, never seen Star Wars WW. Aww at Build-a-Bears.

Have a good evening all.

FancyFancy · 21/06/2026 20:28

Evening, am back at last week's location. Sadly it is expected to be the same temperature as back home - three days of 37/38 degrees this week 😨.

A couple of bands would have been nice apricot - quite pleasant when doing a bit of gardening, but 8 hours was a bit much. The PA in between bands was even louder.

Hope DS's date went well Helen

Fingers crossed for a better night tonight letus, I admire your dedication - ironing on a day like today!

I saw a bit of that game ww, the Dutch did look a bit scarily good

LetUsPrey · 21/06/2026 21:47

Evening wenches.

I think I posted before a lot of the goals had been scored Wicked 😬. At least DH has the Dutch in his work sweepstake.

It’s days like this Helen you need a clone.

They did have some croissants with honey in them Apricot which were delicious.

We’re now forecast 37 on Thursday which can feck off.

I’ll probably be doing some ironing most early mornings this week as I don’t want it all to build up to do next Sunday, especially when I’ll be back at work the day after <sticks fingers in ears and makes la la noises at the very thought of that>

Have done lots of washing today and had a usual Sunday.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/06/2026 22:32

Evening all. Glad to say that we're not forecast to have those sort of temperatures here, deep sympathies to those hitting 30+ Sad Especially if you have to put up with it away from home Fancy - unless you're staying somewhere with air con!!

The weekend has been full of fete activities, which has been a bit tiring. But all done now.

I think DS enjoyed the date. I asked if he had fun and he said "yes", so not an in-depth analysis Grin He's been glued to his xbox since I got home.

I have avoided football as much as possible. Shock at an 18-hour bus trip Wicked That's grim. Fingers crossed the MrA's golf trolley sorting itself out with you needing to be told all about it Apricot! Honey croissants sound delicious...

LetUsPrey · 22/06/2026 07:56

Morning wenches.

That’s fairly in depth feedback there Helen 😁

Two washes out and more ironing done. <bores self >

Off this week too. Will be running errands for parents if they need anything so they don’t have to go out. They fare even less well than I do when it’s hot.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/06/2026 09:25

Morning all. I've got washing on too <fist bumps LetUs> Also errand running to be fitted in around work (or maybe the other way round). I've finally contacted the GP about my shoulder, so that's a adulting success already. And I need to pick up some chicken wormer(oh the glamour Hmm )

Kittens are snoozing on laps/on the floor in sunshine, IdiotKitty is flaked out upstairs. I think I identify as a cat today.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 22/06/2026 18:07

Afternoon/Evening. It’s been a lovely sunny day, very warm, but it’s clouded over now. Much washing has been done. We’ve been sitting outside sudokuing.

The golf trolley is thankfully mended and the missing controller together with his golf watch which was also missing turned up in one of his shoes. Yes I know, he puts things there for safe keeping and then forgets about it. Hmm

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 22/06/2026 19:31

Evening wenches.

All washing is done and I’ve just finished ironing what I washed today <wilts>

Haven’t done much else today. DH is at his running club. Nutter.

Oh hang on, I made a fresh batch of flapjacks too.

<eyeroll> at MrApricot.

I think I’m currently identifying as a piece of wilted lettuce. I’m a wilted LetUs!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/06/2026 23:05

Grin LetUs

It's been hot here too, but not wiltingly hot. But saying that, my brain has melted enough that I don't really know what I've been doing all day. Work, taxi, etc.

I disguised myself as a lanky mushroom again whilst walking up the road and an extremely dopey hare lolloped up to within 10 paces of me (I was in 'statue' mode) before deciding that actually maybe I wasn't an unthreatening tall mushroom, and ran off into a field. I'm guessing it was a well grown leveret.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 23/06/2026 05:59

Morning wenches.

😁 at lanky mushroom Helen. It’s a whole new method of wildlife observation.

Already fairly warm. Have to go out to collect a prescription then I might sit outside for a little bit.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/06/2026 09:41

Morning all. I have been cleaning the downstairs bathroom and kitchen, and completely forgot about my Tuesday morning exercise class Sad I blame DS for finishing A-levels and disrupting routines Grin
It's feeling hot already, so I'm thinking about nipping out to the supermarket. before I start work. Which would involved action. Hmm
<wilts>

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 23/06/2026 15:08

Afternoon. It’s too hot. I got a wash load on the line and went out early to also collect a prescription and post a parcel and I’ve been knackered since.

DH has a carpel tunnel operation tomorrow at a hospital 15 miles from here and has to be there at 7am. Shock DS is taking him because I have no idea how to get there or more importantly get back. DS wouldn’t normally be bothered because he goes to bed early but there’s a match which doesn’t start until 9, so it’s not good timing. DH will catch a shuttle bus back to our main hospital afterwards (it’s only a local anaesthetic) and either I’ll pick him up or DD will bring him home.

Grin at wilted LetUs and lanky mushroom.

Hope everyone’s coping with the heat.

LetUsPrey · 23/06/2026 18:54

Evening wenches.

I am hating the heat and it’s not even the hottest day yet. I am sweaty and grumpy and the antihistamines aren’t even touching the sides. It’s not helped by DH saying how he thinks it’s okay.

Got to a bit of a knitting pattern that requires thought and concentration. Nope.

It’s weird when someone else’s routine changes.

DH has been (trying to) fix an internal door. He has explained why he has not been able to fix it yet, and then explained what he needs to buy.

Hope all goes well for MrApricot tomorrow.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/06/2026 22:02

Fingers crossed for MrA's operation tomorrow.

I have been shopping, working and tidying - DS has a girl visiting to meet the kittens (it's a quite effective chat up tactic I think Grin) so there has been a frenzy of tidying going on to make the house look less of a tip. DH is off this week so he's done loads. <awards Star to DH> DS has done less than I'd have liked, but he has done stuff unprompted and helped with stuff, so he's done ok.

Slinky is currently asleep on my lap, which means I have to type one-handed.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 24/06/2026 05:44

Morning wenches.

😁 at kittens being MiniHelen’s dating assistants (not the right word but I think my brain is still fast asleep wondering why the rest of me isn’t still with it)

No plans for today really. I should be taking advantage of the time off work by doing some tidying and sorting out, but urgh.

Have lovely days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 24/06/2026 16:14

Afternoon. Still too hot. Apart from watering the plants this morning I haven’t been in the garden, it’s too much.

DH’s operation went well, we were back home by 12.30. It’s been annoying him for years but has become much worse recently. No golf for 6 weeks Shock although he’ll probably go and walk round with them when he can drive.

Sympathies with the door fixing explanations LetUs.

Grin at kittens as dating aids.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/06/2026 18:58

Evening all. Was running late this morning, juggling the cats (keeping them separate, or the cat eats the kitten food and vice versa, and we're trying to bulk up the kittens for spaying) chickens, baking that I though I had time to do, btu didn't really...

Work was the usual round of spreadsheets and brain-freeze. But the office has air con, so that was a relief.

6 weeks of no golf Apricot - I hope we gets back to driving quickly! Maybe his friends can pick him up on their way there!?

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 24/06/2026 19:20

Evening wenches.

Guess what? It’s too hotttttttttt and I really really hate it.

What has added to the general fun today is that DH’s car battery (the standard small 12V one, not the big one that powers his car) is flat and the car needs that to start everything else. We got something to try to charge it so we’re seeing how that goes. If not, he’s got home start cover so he’ll try that tomorrow.

That sounds a lot for a day like today Helen, even with the AC.

Six weeks Apricot?! Six?! Helen has an excellent idea about getting a lift.

Very important football match tonight. Am hoping against hope it goes well but realistically it’s doubtful.

LetUsPrey · 25/06/2026 06:17

Morning wenches.

The football did not go well. Oh dear.

Physio appointment today, and then probably hiding inside for the rest of the day.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/06/2026 08:51

Morning all. It was cool and cloudy first thing, so I was out in the garden watering and tidying, but the cloud is burning off now. Oh dear.

Didn't see the football. I nearly fell asleep on the sofa, and then crawled into bed before 10.

'Date 2' went well yesterday, and they are meeting up again today in LocalTown. I hope the bus has air con. Confused

Hope that physio goes well LetUs, and that the car batter issue got fixed (without you being told aaaalll about it Hmm).
