New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Morning wenches.

Rain and dreary. Heated clothes drier very much back in use.

I third the TFIF Wicked. How’s everything there, particularly with Fräsan?

I’m sure your peonies look beautiful Helen. Look what you’ve won 🥇!

Shopping this morning, more organising through the day.

Have great days wenches.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 06/06/2026 15:58

It's mainly work, work, work here.

Fräsan is doing fine, we've a check up at the vet next week, taking some blodtests etc.

It's Sweden's national day today, I have to google every year to see why we're celebrating, I always forget Grin

I never been to Italy either, I always seem to end up in the UK for some reason it's the shortbread Grin

I don't do well in warm countries so I would never go to Egypt for example, unless it was like an episode of Poirot, with me wearing linen clothes, sipping on cocktails.

Noisy neighbours are the worst Fancy!

I love peonies Helen, glad you can enjoy them inside at least.

ApricotCrush · 06/06/2026 17:36

Afternoon. We had a lot of rain overnight but it’s kept off today. I’ve been making a fruit cake for DH this afternoon, as he's going away for a few days with the golfers on Monday.

Your flower display sounds lovely Helen.

That’s good that Fräsan Is keeping well WW, and happy Swedish Day whatever it’s for.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 06/06/2026 20:41

Evening wenches.

That sounds very much the best way to see Egypt Wicked. Pleased to hear Fräsan’s doing okay. If you ever plan a visit to the tourist areas of Scotland, I would recommend at least one large extra case and additional baggage allowance 😁

A few days away with golfing friends? Gosh that sound absolutely lovely for MrApricot. Whatever will you do Apricot? 😁

Bit of shopping this morning, bit more organising for holiday, made flapjacks as DS1’s coming round tomorrow, and then did bath’n’book.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 06/06/2026 21:08

I didn't realise that shortbread originated from Scotland. You learn something new everyday Smile

What happened to Meteorite, did we bore her away? Grin

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/06/2026 22:04

Evening wenches. I had a mega lie-in, then went for a walk. Kittens slept on me this afternoon. That's been my day. Plus unwanted side order of headache. We've had rain on and off, so no gardening done. <chugs more drugs>

Happy Swedish Day Wicked - another excuse for Cinnamon buns, or do they just have their own day anyway?

<arf> at the gold medal - I just scooped up a flowers worth of rose petals off the table!

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 07/06/2026 07:55

Morning wenches.

Awww at sleepy kittens Helen, not so much at the headache though. Hope it’s passed with no after effects.

Tbh no idea if shortbread originated in Scotland but they’ve certainly taken it to their hearts with abandon!

More weird dreams and a very broken night. Am very much not in the mood for any shite today.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/06/2026 08:59

Morning. Also a bad night here. On the one hand, I didn't get to sleep until 2am. On the other, I surely must have been dozing a bit to pass the time? Who knows. Also woke up a few times, I think. It's a bit hazy. The kittens are destroying kittening in the kitchen while I have a peaceful sit-down. Lots of sunshine, so I'll get some gardening done - shoulder permitting, because that's still buggered. <le resigned sigh>

Fingers crossed for a good day for everyone - hope that LetUs has a fun visit from DS1.

Meteorite87 · 07/06/2026 09:51

Good morning 🌞
I got downstairs at 9, but should have accepted I needed more time to wake up.
Some caffeine later and I'm alert enough to keep an eye on my house rabbit.

To suggest I have "plans" for the day might be too definitive 😉

I hope you all have a relaxing Sunday.

ApricotCrush · 07/06/2026 16:01

Afternoon. Cloudy all day but no rain although I think there may have been some overnight. The golfing trip has been postponed until the week after due to the weather forecast for the place they’re going. That means I’ll have to do another food shop because I’ve only catered for me. Also the cake will have to stay in the tin for a week. I assume it will be alright.

Hello Meteorite. Rabbits are lovely, intelligent creatures. We had one when the DC were teenagers. She lived outside but was always a worry in extreme weather. She had an enclosed area in the garden and was always let out of her hutch when we were there. I also used to let her into the house but she was a pain to catch if I had to go out.

Awww at sleeping kittens.

Hope everyone’s having a good day.

LetUsPrey · 07/06/2026 17:27

Evening wenches.

Hope the shoulder relented to give you the chance to do some gardening Helen.

That’s a bit frustrating re the delayed golfing trip Apricot but obviously better for them to have decent weather.

I regularly see things on the local village forum about escapee rabbit(s). There used to be one on our street that regularly escaped. Seems like they’re right little houdinis.

Lovely visit from DS1 and his girlfriend. LovelyMIL seems to be deteriorating more quickly than before 😔

Really not ready for it to be Monday tomorrow.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/06/2026 21:04

Evening all. It's been dry all day here. I planted out all the beans at last, and I'll see what my shoulder says about that tomorrow. There has been more sleeping kitten action this afternoon.

Sorry to hear about LovelyMIL LetUs Sad. When are you off on holiday?

Fruit cake will absolutely last another week Apricot. Gah! at the extra food shop though, how tedious.

Tomorrow I'm off to meet up with some fellow freelancers, so that should be fun, though lots of driving to a central meeting point. Hoping for a better night's sleep tonight. <side-eyes at the man-shapes habit of staying up late and waking me up>

Hope that everyone has had a good day.

What's worse than a dead squirrel? Half a dead squirrel. Being a nice owner, when it started pelting down yesterday morning I went downstairs to let Chonk in. He was outside the patio doors with the upper half of a squirrel. I left him to it. House rabbits are sounding quite attractive at the moment meteorite

Ooh, Italy letus, absolutely love it. Have stayed in Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Milan and somewhere tiny in Tuscany that I can't remember the name of.

That's a bugger about the golf trip being postponed apricot, MrA must be disappointed.

Happy National Day ww, that feels like a good excuse to treat myself to a cinnamon bun when I go to the shops tomorrow.

Hope you have a better night Helen and you have me thinking I should grow my own beans too. I haven't met a bean yet I didn't like.

LetUsPrey · 08/06/2026 06:54

Morning wenches.

It’s absolutely tipping it down. Summer!

Hope there’s no after effects of the bean planting Helen. Safe travels and hope the meet up’s fun.

Oh Chonk no mate. No one wants to see that.

We fly Saturday. At this point in time I cannot be arsed, which sounds quite ungrateful but there we go.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/06/2026 07:43

Morning all. Better sleep was had - hurrah! I think I slept through to 5:30 (and got back to sleep again) and DH didn't wake up up coming to bed. [party popper - silent one, obvs.] We have gentle rain here too, more than drizzle, but not even 'pitter patter' - 'intermittent spots'? Ah well, it's all welcome at the moment.

Shoulder is no better or worse than before, so we'll take that as a win.

Urgh at Chonk's half-a-squirrel. That's the benefits of no cat flaps though - you don't walk into unexpected carnage in the house. Mind you, KillerKitty hasn't done that for a while now - I wonder if the kittens have put him off bringing his kills in (he doesn't want them raiding his stash). That would be very handy.

Holiday 'meh-ness' is perfectly understandable LetUs - disorganised manshapes who don't take enough responsibility for their own shit and assume you'll do all the thinking and planning will suck the joy out of any event. <cwtch>

Has anyone been watching Rivals? I haven't, but the radio was burbling on about how good the finale is. Dog also popped up on my FB feed doing a backstage tour/day in the life on set thing.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 08/06/2026 16:39

Afternoon. Rain this morning but it’s gone quite sunny this afternoon.

Eeeeek at half a dead squirrel Fancy. I don’t think I could handle that. Shock There was a dead blackbird on the front lawn the other day, DH had to deal with it.

So sorry to hear about LovelyMIL LetUs. Sad

We’re not watching Rivals Helen, we haven’t got the channel. Hope you enjoyed your meet up.

LetUsPrey · 08/06/2026 19:28

Evening wenches.

Also don’t have the required thing to watch Rivals but friends who’ve watched it are very much enjoying it.

Good news re the sleep Helen. You’ve more or less described the holiday situation here, although DS2 has got out his clothes he wants to take etc. DH was supposed to get cases down from the loft, and also book the taxi. Neither of these things have happened.

Thanks for the thoughts re LovelyMIL. Trying to look at it that she’s late 80s and still has some independence and up until recently she was getting about fairly well.

It’s been a stressy day so my head’s banging and I’m knackered.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/06/2026 22:03

Evening all.

Meet-up was fun, travelling wasn't - there were many road 'improvements' along the route, which will be fab when they're done, but a 40mph pain in the arse in the meantime. We also had a nice dump of rain while I was out.

More <cwtch> plus drugs and Gin for LetUs.

HBF alert - there was a comment online somewhere about Santi joining the cast of Rivals, so I assume there's another series coming up. I've no idea if that's true of course...

OP posts:
FancyFancy · 08/06/2026 23:37

OMG, a friend's daughter was an extra on that! I don't have access to whatever streaming service it's on, but have been tempted to see about signing up for a short time or a trial as everyone seems to think it's a hoot. Plus Aiden Turner 😁

Floof went back to the vet today as he still has allergy issues. Both have been flea treated just in case, so Chonk has been scuttling away from me ever since. Until I sat down just now when he demanded to sit on my lap and insist on being fussed.

<Cwtches> letus that must be difficult.

DDad gave me the same weather report apricot 😁

LetUsPrey · 09/06/2026 06:44

Morning wenches.

We have sunshine when I look out of one window and a massive dark cloud when I look out of another.

Ah road improvements. If they could not be done in different areas at the same time, that would be helpful. Also if then utility companies couldn’t get in on the act at yet another area, also helpful. Hurrah for fun meet-up though.

Love that with cats. Don’t touch me, don’t talk to me, don’t even look at me - you know what you did. Actually now you may pet me 😁

Expecting more of the same at work but pfft.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/06/2026 07:52

Ah, cats... one of my favourite birthday cards I was given was a multi-panel cartoon that started with a cat winding round the owners legs... actually I'll just attach a copy.

Anyway, we have sun and exams here, and it's a bit breezy.

The kitten have the run of downstairs and are batshit - running from one room to another at warp speed, so the catflap has been blocked off. Of course, IdiotKitty chooses that moment to want to come back in Hmm Kittens are now shut away from the catflap again.

Is Rivals on Prime? No - I've just googled and it looks like it's Disney+ I'm sure the first series has been on BBC now as well though.

Have a good day all. I have to get some actual work done today. How tedious. <send wench clones to work and gathers all wenches in the Tav for a drink and chill out session>

Afternoon. Rain this morning but it brightened up enough later for me to try sitting in the garden. Nooo, the wind was so cold.

What gets me about cats is that they’re all the same. Whenever I see videos and memes I’m nodding along saying ‘yes, that’s Misty’. Hope exam went well for DS Helen.

Come on MrLetUs, get your act together.

Aww at Chonk wanting a fuss.

LetUsPrey · 09/06/2026 20:24

Evening wenches.

That card is excellent Helen 😁. Hope MiniHelen’s exams went well.

Same with the wind Apricot, where on earth has that come from?! I had a walk to BestFriend’s this evening to take birthday things and I’m sure I was quicker coming back as I had the wind behind me.

The cases are down! The taxi is booked! I hope DH doesn’t think that’s him done 🤨

The less said about work the better.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/06/2026 20:32

Evening. We have had several thunderstorms today. Much rumbling and booming overhead just after lunch. Kittens were a bit bemused, but not massively bothered.

Work was done, and stuff. Today's exam went well, and that's about it I think.

FFS at LetUs's work. Why can't people just do their actual jobs and manage their time properly without causing stress for everyone else and making last-minute demands to do stuff that they should have done themselves? <guesses at the usual problems>

Poor allergic Floof - hopefully that gets sorted soon. In cat news here, I had all three on me - IdiotKitty was having his usual snuggle, Spot came bouncing up to snuggle and then Slinky joined in by kneading/chewing at Idiot's back. It lasted a good few minutes before Idiot got sick of it and jumped off. Though Slinky thoroughly blotted his copybook by being in Idiot's favourite box, in his presence - he wasn't impressed. The kittens have been turfed back to the kitchen and Idiot is snuggled in his box, snoring gently.

Morning wenches.

So much rain. I think even the garden’s saying that’s enough for now thanks, bit if a break would be nice. We have thunder forecast today.

BestFriend’s dog sat on my lap yesterday. He’s considerably larger than a cat and, whilst lovely, not quite as snuggly 😁

Were you at my work yesterday Helen because you’ve summed that up quite well. Never mind, short day today and it’s book club tonight so I shall focus on that.

Have great days wenches.
