2 other family's in our very rural village also have our surname. None of us are related, have any local ties and even stranger none of the families are Scottish (where we live). outside of that I've not come across anyone else although both my married and maiden name are both common boys names.

SallyWD · 01/03/2025 22:01

Quite a few with my maiden name.its a common British name. No one with my married name. It's foreign so not common here.

Winky2024 · 01/03/2025 22:05

None…pretty unusual name which I didn’t want to take when I got married. I have to spell it out everywhere 🙄🫤😂 My maiden name was straightforward.

fashionqueen0123 · 01/03/2025 22:06

None

Coldwatergloves · 01/03/2025 22:07

None.

My DH has a common last name and that's a large part of why I didn't take it, and our children also have my unusual name.

TheChosenTwo · 01/03/2025 22:07

I can only think of 2 and I have a supposedly very common surname! Mind you, I don’t often tell anyone my surname and vice versa so it’s possible that the number is much higher really.

EveryKneeShallBow · 01/03/2025 22:09

Dozens both maiden and married names. And I was at school with a girl with a variant of my given name (like Alice/Alison), my exact surname and the same date of birth. There’s a very well published research scientist with my married name who I keep getting emails for, and an author of self-published erotica.

MissyGirlie · 01/03/2025 22:13

None.

theboffinsarecoming · 01/03/2025 22:13

I wonder whether any of us on this thread share the same surname.

Now that would be a coincidence.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 01/03/2025 22:15

None

There is a bloke in new Zealand with the same name but he's the only one we know of

hereismydog · 01/03/2025 22:15

There are bloody loads of me with my Dad’s common surname, and my common 90s first name 😂

I would bet my house that my Mum is the only person in the world with her full name though, as she has a very uncommon first name from one culture, and a very uncommon surname from a completely different culture. We’ve had a go at researching our family tree and everyone we’ve found with her maiden name has been some kind of distant relation. Other people I’ve met from the country her surname comes from have never even heard of it!

CheeseDreamsTonight · 01/03/2025 22:18

None but apparently there are lots in another part of the country

Berlinlover · 01/03/2025 22:19

A few. It’s fairly common here in the west of Ireland.

Eyesopenwideawake · 01/03/2025 22:19

No one. I'm the only person alive with my name. There was another one in the 1800's but she didn't post very much (weirdo).

My maiden name 1

My married name bloody loads Grin

2025mustbebetter · 01/03/2025 22:21

None!

My maiden name is uncommon in most parts of the country but quite a few round where I live.

My married name is more unusual.

Thisismyalterego · 01/03/2025 22:22

Not met anyone unrelated with either my maiden name or surname. Oddly, there is/was someone on here whose username was my first name and maiden surname. I dm'd her as I was intrigued as to whether she may be a distant relative and she told me it was actually a character name in a big TV series from a few years back! I had never watched the prom, so didn't know. And no, I was born decades before the programme, so no chance I was named after the character.

DwarfPalmetto · 01/03/2025 22:22

None. There is a semi-famous person with the same surname who I have heard of but never met.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 01/03/2025 22:24

None.

It's from another European country, and was also misspelled when my ancestor got here so...there are not many of us at all.

TheLadyMaud · 01/03/2025 22:25

Very very few until I moved back to the area of the country my father originated from. There was a man with the same surname as me in the same profession as me in the SE, who people used to assume I was married to. I only met him once! Now, I have met a handful of people with the same surname. Many originate from the exact part of the county my great grandfather came from so I presume we are related somewhere along the way.
I also have an uncommon first name and I have never found another person with my exact name anywhere.

FluffMagnet · 01/03/2025 22:27

My surname is quite common to my county, and I had a friend at school with the same surname. Haven't met anyone since I moved.

CarpetKnees · 01/03/2025 22:30

Married name - loads. Dozens and dozens and dozens. It's a common surname. I've met 3 people with same first and surname combination.

Maiden name - none. It was a pretty rare name. Only one in the phone book (back in the day).

LostMyLanyard · 01/03/2025 22:31

Loads with the surname I had when I was married (very common UK surname) but none with my maiden name (which I use now I'm divorced). There is a very well known English female TV producer who shares my full name! I just wish I had her talent and wealth 😂

Bluescissorsbluepen · 01/03/2025 22:32

In my class parents what’s app of 22 there is someone with the exact same name. Would be weird to go a day without meeting someone with the same surname. Makes finding me on Facebook tricky which suits me fine.
