Never be financially dependent on someone else. Always have your own source of income/savings or education.

Expect nothing. That way, you'll never be disappointed.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/12/2024 15:15

To go back to work after having children

ProvincialLady24 · 20/12/2024 15:16

Never mind what they say - watch what they do.

wizzywig · 20/12/2024 15:16

You can't fix stupid. Actions speak louder than words

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/12/2024 15:22

'It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.' I know it's good advice but I sometimes struggle to keep to it, I'm a pathetic people pleaser. But at least I KNOW what I'm doing.

stripypanda100 · 20/12/2024 16:10

You're always with
yourself, so you might as well enjoy the company.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

candlerhyme · 20/12/2024 16:16

Always aim to be a beacon of light. No one wants to spend time with a chronic moaner.

FromCuddleLand · 20/12/2024 16:19

I saw one on here recently which I thought was great: you don't have to attend every fight you are invited to.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever told?

You can’t ever control how others behave but you can control how you react.

clopper · 20/12/2024 16:28

Pick your arguments wisely…..
by a an older friend regarding parenting teenagers.

Jifmicroliquid · 20/12/2024 16:58

People will treat you how you let them.

halfpasteleven · 20/12/2024 17:04

From this forum:

No is a complete sentence

marshmallowbum · 20/12/2024 17:20

What people think of you has nothing to do with you - it's a reflection of them.

Trust your gut.

From my martial arts instructor - better judged by 12 than carried by 6.

doihaveacase · 20/12/2024 18:04

The days are long but the years are short.

Said in the context of raising children but true of many aspects of life. I enjoy the good moments and I know the bad ones will pass.

LemonLimeFresca · 20/12/2024 18:24

Lurking

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/12/2024 19:39

Never downs more than 1/3 your income on rent.
Don't give up your financial independence for anyone.
Only you can change your outcome.
Be yourself.
Own your mistakes.
You look really good in pale blue.

Start paying into a pension as soon as you can.
Thanks Ddad.👍

And this!

‘Kill them with kindness’ (at work, customer facing job).

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 20/12/2024 19:52

Another classic:

Don't set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.

jollygoose · 20/12/2024 19:59

Buy the very best saucepans you can afford.

Nothatgingerpirate · 20/12/2024 10:21

One of the best - don't hesitate to put yourself first, because nobody else would do this for you, including your "loved ones".
By and large, people will let you do as much as you are willing to do for them, gnawing at you (not literally) and taking your precious time and energy.
Foot down, one life etc.
Couldn't be more true, actual advice received from a man. Wow for him wanting to share. 😐

I've had cancer this year and it's been painful to find out what you said is so true.

stargazerlil · 20/12/2024 22:12

To stop eating g fibre.

TryingToHealButFailing · 20/12/2024 22:15

What people think of you is none of your business. Of course, I never take this advice myself!

FiftynFooked · 20/12/2024 22:39

Regret the things you've done, rather than the things you haven't
