So another thread got me thinking... how often do you wash your clothes??

I'll go first -

Knickers and socks - one wear
Bras - maybe 2/3 wears (sports bra 1 wear)
Tops - 1 or 2 wears
Jumpers - maybe 3 wears
Trousers - maybe 2 wears
Pjs - 2 wears

Just wondering how I compare to others!

Knickers, bras, socks, tights - once
Tops next to my skin - once
Leggings - once
Trousers, skirts, jeans dresses - many times
Jumpers - rarely wash but always wear a layer underneath
Pjs - two nights

Wtf??! Why are people wearing bras for a month before washing? This is bad. My standards are low, I might wear trousers or jumpers four times..... But a bra for a month is minging. Buy sturdy ones and bung them in the washing machine every few days like everything else.

How many bras do people own?!
How are you washing them if wearing only once?!
So many questions and I am feeling grubby!

I've got about 30. Get washed in the machine with everything else.

orangetriangle · 24/11/2024 18:22

I wear everything once then it goes in the wash including pjs towels are washed on e a week bedding every couple of weeks but I am going through the change and get hot flushes etc

orangetriangle · 24/11/2024 18:22

And I only have four day to day ones and a couple of fancy ones. Still only get worn for a few days though.

My bras cost €50! I don’t spend a fortune on clothes but can’t stand cheap bras.

Thighdentitycrisis · 24/11/2024 18:26

Bras get washed after 2 - 3 wears. I usually have a nude, a black and another on the go depending what top I’m wearing. Just wash out by hand at the weekend and start again on Monday

WonderWizard · 24/11/2024 18:26

Socks, pants, bras, vests, pyjamas, shirts, t shirts etc- one wear

Skirts/trousers- 2-3 wears

Jumpers-3-4 wears

Coats- dry clean twice a year

GoodIsGoodEnough · 24/11/2024 18:26

I'd probably wear a bra for a week or so in the winter, daily change in the summer!
I find hand washing a faff to I use the hand wash setting on the machine, but my last few bras the wires poked out when wearing them.

I recently bought a really expensive jumper in Denmark, the guy in the shop said don't ever wash it ( it's heavy wool) you can spot off any stains but otherwise just air it.

So far I have done this, it doesn't smell, feels like new and is fine - I don't wear it continuously but it does make you think you do a lot of washing you don't really need to do.

Don't ever wash a jumper? I wouldn't like that. I like things to he freshened up.
Good quality jumpers wash really well, I bought a very expensive Fair Isle one which just looks and feels better with every wash.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 24/11/2024 18:29

Everything gets worn once and washed. I'm a naturally messy person and also have a 3 year old and 9 month old so I'm always minging at the end of the day.

Printedword · 24/11/2024 18:31

Knickers/socks/tights 1 wear

bras 2-3 worn over a week

jeans/skirt/dress or trousers I choose one each of these and wear over the week

tops/t shirts 1-2 wears

jumpers/cardigans 2-5 wears

shirts - I own a few but don’t often wear them

I'm exactly the same.

maverickfox · 24/11/2024 18:33

Clothing lasts a lot longer if you wash it less. Unless it smells or has stains on it you can spot clean a lot of things and/or air them and it is better for the planet as well.

doodleschnoodle · 24/11/2024 18:37

Once for pretty much everything, which is very wasteful and inefficient of me but I am a bit clumsy (mild dyspraxia affecting fine motor) so probably get a bit more stuff dropped on me than some other people.

LadyChilli · 24/11/2024 18:41

Anything that has extended contact with my feet, bum or underarms gets washed after one wear.

Jumpers are the only exception even if worn directly on my skin, after reading on here that wool doesn't need to be washed. I air my jumpers on the line outside between wearing but only wash after perhaps 4 or 5 wears.

Pyjamas probably 4 wears.

Everything else gets my eye cast over it and a quick sniff test and won't be washed until it fails.

It's better for the clothes, the environment and my time not to be constantly washing things that don't need it.

Tealeavesinthecup · 24/11/2024 18:48

Pants and socks once
t shirts 2/3 wears
jeans/leggings once a week or if they’re dirty
bras about every five days to a week
nighties about three to four days
jumpers when I spill something on them

Hello113 · 24/11/2024 08:48

I do not believe that everyone is washing a bra after 2 wears!

Everyone won't be! I find my bras only ever smell of perfume definitely can wear for a few days

Mumsntfan1 · 24/11/2024 18:54

Anoisagusaris · 24/11/2024 18:24

Most of mine are under 10€

Washingupdone · 24/11/2024 19:01

Daily change knickers one pair for day another for night.
Otherwise everything once a week for all clothes if not stained or smell.
Clothes are hung up to air overnight.
The more clothes are washed, the worse it is for wear of the material and for pollution.

Why don’t people, if they have problems with spills, wear a protection similar to what is worn by children when doing crafts and whip it off when job is finished?

Soluckyinlove · 24/11/2024 19:04

A couple of years ago I visited my youngest sister at Christmas and my niece, her daughter, was wearing a Christmas sweater. From somewhere in the depths of my elderly brain I suddenly realised that I had knitted it for my sister over 40 years ago. It looked like new. I questioned my sister. It was the same sweater (wool). As it was a size 10, she had only worn it ,at Christmas, for a couple of years, before it was too small for her. She had never washed it. When my niece was the right size she had given it to her. It had still never been washed but still looked like new and didn't smell. Maybe one day it will be passed on to the next generation.

Doggymummar · 24/11/2024 19:08

I use the sniff test. If it smells it gets washed, or if it's visibly dirty.

I own 6, all very expensive.
I wash on the hand wash cycle in my machine.
