How long do you wear clothes?

So another thread got me thinking... how often do you wash your clothes??

I'll go first -

Knickers and socks - one wear
Bras - maybe 2/3 wears (sports bra 1 wear)
Tops - 1 or 2 wears
Jumpers - maybe 3 wears
Trousers - maybe 2 wears
Pjs - 2 wears

Just wondering how I compare to others!

Clothes- one wear. I don’t wear PJ’s.

NormalAuntFanny · 24/11/2024 08:18

I recently bought a really expensive jumper in Denmark, the guy in the shop said don't ever wash it ( it's heavy wool) you can spot off any stains but otherwise just air it.

So far I have done this, it doesn't smell, feels like new and is fine - I don't wear it continuously but it does make you think you do a lot of washing you don't really need to do.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 24/11/2024 08:42

Underwear. One use
Trouser 2 use
Top 1/2 depending on fabric and time of year
Jumpers upto 5 if I have a t shirt underneath
Skirt 1/2
Dress 1 /2
Pjs 2/3

PomegranateKernals · 24/11/2024 08:43

Pants/socks once
Jeans ages
Tshirts maybe 3 times
Jumpers until I drop food on them
Pj's and bras 2/3 wears

Wool is different to other clothes as it is naturally antibacterial. I'm similar to the OP but jumpers and trousers might go more or less depending on how dirty they are. I think sniff test is fine for anything not directly touching your skin!

Bottoms like skirts and trousers a couple of wears. Knickers and socks one wear
tops couple of wears if the arm pits don’t smell
jeans depends if they are my Levi’s or not as long as k can get away with - not really meant to wash them regularly
pjs/bras couple of wears

I do not believe that everyone is washing a bra after 2 wears!

I'd never heard of wearing a bra more than once until I joined mn. I've always counted bras as underwear.

As in you think people are washing them after one wear? Or you think people are wear in them longer than that??

A friend told me she wears her bras for weeks!!

Pretty much everything after one wear, bras, pjs included. Jeans probably every few wears but I go to a lot of kid classes where I sit on the floor, or I’m in the park and they get muddy, so will wash as needed.

Edit- my coats probably get washed a few times a season though, so I get a lot of wears out of them!

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/11/2024 09:04

Pants - 1 wear
Socks and tights- 1 wear
Bras - 2 wears in winter/1 wear in summer.
T shirts- 1 or 2 wears (am adept at feeding my t shirts)
Skirts and trousers- 3 wears
Jumpers - (see my note about t-shirts!)
Cardigans- 1 week max
Night shirts- 1 week

Much the same as you. If tops are loose they may get two or three outings.

Bananalanacake · 24/11/2024 15:41

Pants, one wear
Socks and bras, 2 wears
Trousers, 4 wears
Tops, 1 wear in summer, usually 3 in winter
Nighties, 6 or 7 wears.

I like to have a selection of jumpers and cardigans on the go, thin and a thick cardigan, warm jumper. These are washed every 2 months, they are not next to my skin and I don't smoke. But I did have to wash a cardigan after one month when SILs dog lay on it.

I enjoy reading the laundry threads where people have to do 3 loads a day, probably cos they wash everything after one wear and use towels once before they go in the wash.

mitogoshigg · 24/11/2024 17:29

Depends if they are dirty - tops usually one wear as I'm bound to spill something, trousers and skirts 2-3 wears hopefully, skirts sometimes more if worn over thick tights / leggings so they haven't had skin contact. Underwear once, bras maybe twice in winter (once in hotter weather), dresses as with tops, depends on messy cooking and eating!

mitogoshigg · 24/11/2024 17:30

Oh and don't own pjs, saves on washing Grin

Bobbybobbins · 24/11/2024 17:38

Pants and socks - one wear
Tops - one (work tops) or two (at home)
Pjs and bras- about 4/5 days
Everything else- til it is dirty or smells

I have realised since joining MN that my clothes hygiene standards are lower than average! Having said that I am not a sweaty person and shower daily

StressedQueen · 24/11/2024 17:43

Knickers - One wear
Socks - One wear
Bras - Two wears (I just don't like putting the same one on after showering)
T-shirts/shirts - 1 wear in Summer, maybe 2/3 in Winter if it doesn't smell
Skirts/trousers - 4 wears
Jeans - Umm until there is a stain on them. They just never smell or feel dirty to me
Jumpers - If I'm not wearing a t-shirt, then about 2/3 but if I am not until it's dirty or smells weird
PJs - 2 wears but I tend to end up sleeping in DH's tshirt and sleepshorts mostly anyway

I do

WhereAreWeNow · 24/11/2024 17:51

Depends on closeness to skin. Knickers, socks, sports gear, sports bra, t-shirts/tops all washed after one wear.

Dresses in the summer might get washed after every wear if it's hot. In the winter when I've got tights and a top between me and the dress, I'll wear it loads before washing.

Knitwear hardly ever gets washed 😳 I'm permanently freezing and don't get sweaty and I don't wear them next to my skin. I always have my Uniqlo heatech underneath. So I figure jumpers don't need it unless I spill something on them.

BCBird · 24/11/2024 17:53

Tops, knickers, dresses, socks and trousers once. Skirts, until I.clumsily drop something on them.😅

GoodIsGoodEnough · 24/11/2024 17:58

How many bras do people own?!
How are you washing them if wearing only once?!
So many questions and I am feeling grubby!

Doitrightnow · 24/11/2024 18:01

Knickers and socks - worn once
Tops - worn once or twice depending on whether the pits smell
Dresses - worn until the pits start to smell or have visible dirt on them, or (if it's hot) they are sweaty. Maybe 2-4 times depending on the dress style.
Jumpers - only washed if they get actual dirt on them. Most of mine are wool and only need airing and don't smell. Prob washed a few times a year?
Skirts, trousers, jeans - basically never washed unless they have visible dirt on them.
Bras - rarely washed. Probably once a month or so unless I am wearing it for v sweaty sport.
PJs - washed after a few weeks or so.

isitsnowingyett · 24/11/2024 18:04

I wear nighties of various kinds and I have a fresh one every day.
