Merry Christmas all, hope you've had a fabulous day. Surprise suprise, I'm full of cheese 😁 And pink fizz. Settling in for Gavin and Stacey with tea and Christmas cake. And probably some more wine......

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/12/2024 22:11

Evening. Hope everyone's had a lovely day. The house is full of wrapping paper and we are full of lunch. Still.

We watched Wallace and Gromit, but not Gavin and Stacy yet.

LetUsPrey · 25/12/2024 23:30

Evening wenches.

Lovely day and was great to see everyone. Fog had descended by the time we were going home though. Watching Wallace and Gromit now, although I don’t think we’ll finish it tonight as I’m tired.

Hope everywench has had a marvellous day.

LetUsPrey · 26/12/2024 08:36

Morning wenches,

Not sure of plans today. Present swap with BestFriend at some point, and we’ll probably go out to see LittleSis (birthday) but not sure when she’s back home.

Hope everything goes perfectly for DS Apricot (hope I’ve got it right that it’s today he’s doing his meal!) - I’m sure it will.

Have lovely days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 26/12/2024 10:04

Morning, very foggy here too. DS cadged a lift to DD’s yesterday so guess who had to take him home, in the opposite direction to our house. Oh yes, the one who doesn’t drink much, aka me! You know how I hate driving at night and the added fog made it very scary.

Yes LetUs we’re at DS’s today so at least he won’t need a lift but his DC need fetching and taking back. Hmm

Have a lovely day all.

Afternoon all, we had a beach walk (very dank and chilly) and not much else has been done. Home again now and DH has sport on TV <eye roll>. He's also looking to find me a better music player for my phone (one which will automatically connect to my car).

Hope everyone has had a good day and had festive fun and socialising, etc,

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/12/2024 17:38

Binged Wolf Hall, on the last episode of season 2 now. Interesting show, didn't know much about Thomas Cromwell before. I started googling of course and it looks like Anne of Cleeves got the better deal of all the wives, with the annulment, didn't have to be married to Henry and lived a comfortable life and didn't get executed.

LetUsPrey · 26/12/2024 19:18

Evening wenches.

Flipping fog’s back again. Even when you know where you’re going, it doesn’t make driving fun.

Hope you’re having a good day Apricot despite the lifts.

I agree with you Wicked re Anne of Cleeves. I think she ended up being one of the richest women of the time, independently so. Lucy Worsley did an interesting series called Six Wives with Lucy Worsley. No idea if you can get that though so not entirely helpful of me to mention it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Finished watching Wallace and Gromit which was excellent.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/12/2024 22:42

Evening all. Have watched Gavin and Stacy now. Awww Grin Haven't watched it for years, so obviously missed some of the in-jokes, but still, fun.

Anne of Cleves, other than the obvious humiliation of being judged undesirable and de-wifed, got by far the best deal. Nice houses, lifetime pension, and status. Plus stayed single and didn't have to give up her post-Henry autonomy by marrying someone. I'd call that a major win!

Hoe all the shuttling went well for Apricot and that Fancy hasn't OD'd on cheese Grin

LetUsPrey · 27/12/2024 08:06

Morning wenches.

She also has a cake named after her so that’s also a bonus.

Flipping foggy again here so that can get in the bin.

No definite plans today other than to see LittleSis.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/12/2024 09:18

Morning all. Today's weather is a repeat of yesterday's - you know it's grim when the solar lights don't even come on because there hasn't been enough sun.

I think that the only plans here involve more post-Christmas tidying up. And me putting some socks on because my feet are getting cold!

ApricotCrush · 27/12/2024 16:26

Afternoon. Still horribly foggy here. DH didn’t have a drink last night, so he drove the kids home, which was a relief. It’s all been lovely, but I’m glad it’s all over and we can return to normality.

I’ve never watched Gavin and Stacy not keen on James Corden but DD likes it and she put the first ever two episodes on when we were there. Then when we came home the last 20 mins of the Christmas special was on, so we’ve seen the beginning and the end and needn’t watch anything in between. Grin

I always think of Anne of Cleeves when Shetland is on as Ann Cleeves is the author. We’re watching it again from the beginning as it came on the iPlayer when Strike finished.

Have a good evening all.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/12/2024 19:36

Evening. The weather didn't improve here either, though we did have a walk up and down the road in the mud and the mist.

Not sure what we're watching tonight - we haven't finished Wolf Hall, and haven't started Strike, so it's all stacking up! also got Outnumbered to watch. I haven't watched the past few Gavin and Stacey's Apricot though I did definitely see the first series, and possibly the second. But I was obviously missing some jokes and references ('corn on the cob' is obviously <tae> of some sort!). Still fun though.

LetUsPrey · 27/12/2024 20:46

Evening wenches.

That’s a great way to watch a programme Apricot 😁

We’ve one Strike left but we’ve got the darts on all flipping day although DS2 and I did watch the Christmas Doctor Who. Had a little cry or five at that.

Saw LittleSis so that was nice. Haven’t done much else.

FancyFancy · 27/12/2024 21:51

FFAS, screen jumped and I ended up pressing 'post' .Am back home - quite a bit of fog and traffic but nothing too awful. Had a great time - no big parental dramas and was lovely to have my DC and DSis's DC all together. They really are a good bunch and helped out with lots of chores - they probably excelled most at keeping a constant flow of booze from booze cupboard to fridge to glass to empties in the recycling bin and at running board games. Haven't forgiven DD for outing me as Hitler and assassinating me though. Much hilarity during a different boardgame due to DSis shooting her firstborn who had just voted to leave her husband behind on a desert island. It's a wonder any of us are still talking to each other 😁

Chonk and Floof have been very happy to have me back, I have made Christmas Leftover Pie and am now contemplating looking for the second Downton film on catch up and getting on the vodka.....

LetUsPrey · 28/12/2024 08:03

Morning wenches.

That sounds all in all an excellent way to have spent a few days Fancy. And the film and vodka would have rounded things off nicely.

Still quite dark here which is unacceptable. Nothing particular planned for today.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/12/2024 11:57

Morning (just). Have been doing a lot of nothing this morning, but do need to go out to the shops for milk. Have also had the new cover arrive for the chicken run, so that needs to be put on, and I need to investigate my cunning plan to enlarge the chicken's run, to see if it's feasible. Getting dressed would be a good start to all that Blush

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 28/12/2024 14:40

I'm so amazingly lazy, today I've been watching Father Brown and jigsawing, that's it.

ApricotCrush · 28/12/2024 17:01

Afternoon. Still foggy. That’s fine WW, I’ve only been knitting and going down a YouTube rabbit hole.

I don’t think DH has discovered darts is on LetUs, I’m saying nothing. Hmm

Grin at your board games Fancy, lovely to get your family together.

The new chicken run extension sounds interesting Helen, hope it works.

Just gone downstairs. Darts is on. 🙄

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/12/2024 18:32

Evening all.

Fancy's Christmas sounds fab <side-eyes at antisocial DS and lack of board games> I have lovely memories of regular seasonal gatherings at my grandparents where we all played games.

Today was, finally productive. Shopping was done, chickens were cleaned up and covered over, bulbs were plants, and the chicken run extension might work (just need to doooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttt <nlt>).

The turkey cracass has been slow cooked for stock and I'm waiting for it to drain. Also need to ice the Christmas cake still Blush though at least the marzipan is done now. I just need to boil some sugar to death and hope the icing sets!

I think your days sounds very civilised Wicked. We have also had a lot of darts on. <unimpressed face>

LetUsPrey · 28/12/2024 19:24

Evening wenches.

DH has gone out for the evening so no darts on here. I suppose it was only a matter of time before MrApricot realised it was on.

That sounds a pretty awesome day to me Wicked.

That day was productive and a half Helen! Good luck with the chicken run extension.

FancyFancy · 28/12/2024 20:07

Evening

Commiserations at the realisation that the darts is on apricot. I'm joining you & ww on the 'not doing much' bench - have pottered mostly. Did go to the garden centre to see if there were any tempting bargains in the sale, but there weren't. helen is making me feel bone idle Grin , although I'm chuckling at the not-yet iced Christmas cake - I've pnly just had my first piece of Christmas pud. Speaking of icing the Christmas cake, we always used to get DDad to do the last bit of mixing the icing when we were kids -that bit when there's so much icing sugar in the royal icing that you need serious muscle to mix it.

Enjoy a darts-free evening letus, I would recommend the second Downton movie, but it really was tosh.

Right, time for more leftovers......

LetUsPrey · 29/12/2024 09:09

Morning wenches.

I’ve seen that film Fancy. Maggie Smith was obviously excellent and the clothes were wonderful 😁

DH is ill. He does always just get on with things whenever he’s not well, so he’s clearly really not feeling well. It’s been brewing a few days and I think DS2 has caught it too.

So today’s plans of visiting and LovelyMIL round for lunch have changed as he is not going near any Old People.

Have lovely days wenches.
