Happy Happy Thoughts?

Anyone got something really positive to share today. I've had a really sh*te week so far and no change in sight - cheer me up please, i've got to the point where I'm relying on winning the lottery!!

Yeah - its a beautiful day, the sun is shining, its warmer than it has been for weeks, the birds are singing, just two weeks before the clocks go forward, so lovely long evenings are coming. We are all bright, intelligent women with gorgeous children and fab friends who like us for what we are and are ready to support us at a moments notice.

Try and find something nice to do today just for you, even if its just buying the latest copy of a really lovely, gossipy, showbiz magazine - grab a cup of coffee, a chocolate biscuit (or my personal favourite, a large gin and a fag) and indulge.

Oh Kia - I know the feeling! mine's been pretty shi*te too! Starting last Fri when I broke down, didn't get home til 11.30 pm, frozen stiff and the antenna had mysteriously disappeared from my mobile phone...
On the positive side:
It's not freezing or raining.
It's budget day and the chancellor just might announce free state run nurseries, billions more for the NHS and schools and the abolition of IR35...
Alternatively just chill out for 5 minutes and think about your children!!

On a personal positive note....My new kitchen should be finished today. Haven't had a kitchen/cooker since we moved house on the 13th November. Oh and the washing machine has been fixed after four weeks of not working and better yet, my new, first time ever tumble drier has been fitted and is working. My life is complete.

Also, when I left for work this morning it was light! Summer is coming. Hurrah!

Kia, I know that feeling too. Take some time for yourself: Day off/evening out. ASAP!!!. Last September I took two days off work to do some home chores and some shopping. The first day I did something I hadn't done for six years. I wandered around by myself, no children, no agenda, a bit of shopping, lots of browsing and stopping for coffee around old haunts in Covent garden, Soho etc. It was so good I said the chores and did the same thing the next day.

Yes, I know that feeling, I like to arrange for my husband to get up with our daughter, then lie in bed and indulge myself in a trashy novel for an hour, sheer bliss!!

This is not a positive thought as such, but hopefully it will make you laugh. Picture the scene: Vaguely harrassed mum, has just arrived back home after picking up son from childminder and a long tedious day in the office. Has 150 jobs to do before child's bedtime but first job (due to daylight requirement) has to be emptying all 3 bin bags in effort to find mysteriously disappeared mobile phone. Given part-time single parent status (husband currently in Singapore) this involves standing in front of house with small eager to escape son actively helping sift through 5 days worth of household detritus. Needless to say mobile phone was not in rubbish but discovered at 10.30pm at the back of the cuttlery drawer in kitchen!!!!
That's what I did last night and as I accidently emptied a very, very out of date carton of green, stinky, double cream over my shoe I did laugh and thought of all the mums in the world who end up doing similarly ridiculous tasks thanks to the efforts of their small offspring!
Kia, I hope your week gets better! Go and spend some money. If you can't bring yourself to wantonly spend like a mad woman, go and get some funky nail varnish for your toes. I always find looking down at sparkly toes makes me feel better.

I love it when the kids are in bed, husband is out and I can sit on my own with the sound of silence echoing in my ears!!!! My favourite is like Emmam big gin and a fag and forget all about my troubles and worries, which of lately have been shite for the past fortnight. Never mind ER is brilliant, something to look forward to!!!!!!

Yes, Bugsy last week i took off 1 day to have a manicure, pedicure and a haircut. i felt so-o-o pampered!

My happy thoughts right now are:-
a) It's past lunchtime on Wednesday so I'm over half way through the week and nearer spending those two precious days with my daughter.
b) It's past lunchtime so I'm nearer to picking her up from nursery.
c) the evenings are lighter for longer
d) today is the warmest day I can remember (I can't even imagine lying in the garden in shorts with an extremely chilled glass of white wine).
e) and the reason I'm here at work and not at home playing with dd, it's nearly payday!!!

I just pray my husband's cold is on the way out so he isn't so down and depressed tonight.......

My happy thoughts are that it's wednesday which is my 'friday' as i work part time, so it's back to mad 2-year old mode tomorrow and we are off to nursery to buy plants for newly landscaped garden - it was derelict when we moved in, now very smart but no plants! Also another 'week' gone and not long until start of maternity leave!

Happy thoughts have to be I have just spent the last 7 days with a very miserable sick child clinging to me or shouting at me everyday - she is now on the mend bigtime
My nanny is back at work (having been ill this week) and I am in the office on my own (I work with my husband) so it feels like a real treat so I thought sod this - diverted the phones, met a friend for lunch in a great little french cafe in Covent Garden and had a great gossip then bought myself a new bargain handbag from M&S - came back to the office and got very close to finishing off a deal which should happen tomorrow!! Also it is nice and warm with SUN - I almost feel like myself again!!

Thanks everyone! We should do this more often! I looked at the messages throughout the day and got some perspective and didn't sucumb to the temptation to geld any of my colleagues! Lord! A day in Covent Garden you lucky lucky lucky lucky female person you! I dream of doing lunch with a bit of sophisticated repartee (if only I could find him!). We really do have things to be thankful for dont we, just doesn't stop me being a cranky bitch sometimes (well alright, quite alot!)

Not too late to contribute a happy thought or two? Have just booked budget but promising holiday with son's godparents in Charente and Brittany; is light in the morning when son wakes me up with a request to "Sing King" (Good King Wenceslas, three times over, with appropriate voices) at 6am; whole family has been free of antibiotics for 14 days now; found "September" from his velcro calendar - bad news is that he had carefully disposed of it in a bulging Sangenic (I am with you in spirit Bugsy); have begun to crack driving lessons after five enervating and depressing sessions with Rod the Miserable Driving Instructor; have finally got through The Blind Assassin; first daffodil is out in our garden.

i have just looked at the boards after a week or so - how life does move on without me!! A thank you to all of you who have replied to this one. You've really cheered me up and made me smile. My week seems to be degenerating badly so no happy or positive thoughts from me today - unless you count the hot bath, BIG glass of wine and the last chapter of a book that I've promised myself tonight after the kids are in bed

Marina, so glad you're cracking the driving lessons. Despite all the cons of driving, it has made me so happy on countless summer weeekends to get up early and drive my children to the beach or countryside, leaving humid, dirty south east London behind. Then return in the evening all the better for sun and fresh air, with two sleeping children who can be lifted straight out of the car and put to bed. I started driving properly while I was pregnant with my first child. I had passed my test years before but had never driven since then. It took ages to pluck up courage to drive and I nearly gave up. Then someone said think what an empowered and independent mum you'll be!

Yes Marina, I didn't learn until I was 28 - best thing I ever did. Good luck.

Isn't it amazing what a glimpse of sunshine and a daffodil can do?

And I love not having to put mad toddler into the snowsuit this week because its milder. The start of my day is transforming already.

I just read our local rag and it had an article about a heavily pregnant woman who got into a fight at a local pub and when hauled in front of the judge gave mitigating circumstances of - wait for it PRE-natal depression. I've never heard of this (obviously led a sheltered life!), but no doubt St Tom of Statistics will come up with something! And I thought I had problems! Still having a terrible week, can't even go for a ride to blow away the cobwebs because of F&M. Gave up smoking 2 years ago and got so ratfaced at the Christmas do, I haven't had but a wee scotch since!! What do you do when drink is NOT the answer?!

No alcohol? then raid the kids biscuit / treat tin, pig out on chocolate, (you may feel guilty later but it's great at the time).
Also, having felt lousy a few weeks ago, I was lying in bed feeling sorry for myself when my 3 year old wandered in saying ' Mummy smile, I've made you a 'well' card.' She then presented me with a piece of paper full of scribbles and she was covered in felt pen. But it worked I smiled all day!!

Now, if you'd tempted me with a packet of Walkers cheese and onion crisps!! I'm a carbohydrate-aholic who's currently doing Dr Atkins and I've not had a sniff of carbohydrate since the middle of Jan! Now don't tell me its bad for me - all I know is I've lost nearly 8 kilos and you can get mints for the bad breath!! I've done the pre-diet blood tests too and although I'm not loosing hugely like some I know I'm happy with slow and steady. Just under severe pressure at work currently and its the sort of situation where you know you've got to sit silent and wait for what goes around to finally come around! My son has just announced he got an A for french in his sats and if I said I'd give him £3 for each B, what is an A worth?! Life, as Morag says, goes on!!

My hubby had the day off yesterday and he and our two year old had a great time together.

I got in from work and found that, because it had been raining most of the day and they couldn't go to the park, they had made playdough ducks and were pretending to feed them. It was soo sweet, it really made me laugh.

I'm with Viv - I must admit that I eat our son's Milky Bars that his grandma buys him. My excuse is that he's not too keen on white chocolate so I have to eat it, but I'm not telling grandma that and see my source of freebie chocolate dry up!

Pamina, I remember how I felt on my last working day before maternity leave, too. It was lovely! And it's sunny and you've got the spring and summer to look forward to. No fainting on baking hot and packed-with-commuters tube trains for you!!!
