Fortunately we've managed to avoid Thomas the Tank Engine. I really find Noddy an annoying little s* though.

What noise does Fireman Sam's fire engine make? Is that nee-naw? Perhaps he's to blame.

This will make you laugh - for Comic Relief a bloke my hubby works with turned up for work today wearing nothing but a pair of pants and a bra. I would have liked to have seen him get on the bus this morning! (Something tells me he didn't look like Russell Crowe either, who, incidently is dating Nicole Kidman!!!!)

Marina, I do hope you have a child with you when you are singing these songs, otherwise I think we should start worrying about you.........

erm..do jokes about men count as happy thoughts? Here's 2 goodies from my e-mail junk:

Why did Moses wander the desert for 40 years?

He wouldn't ask for directions.

and

How many men does it take to wallpaper a bathroom?

Three, if you slice them very thinly.

Smile its friday!

Tigermoth · 16/03/2001 16:17

Strange what life does to you. When I was 5-year-old Noddy and big Ears were my kind of guys. Now I'm silently giggling in agreement with Emmam. Nice to know Noddy can still make me happy.

Kia · 16/03/2001 21:09

I wanted to post a couple of jokes too, but you know what happened last time!! I just laughed and laughed today on the being friends with your children's friends parents board and the powder blue nails! I know some of it was serious, but some of the experiences were really funny!

My son (4) makes 'chuffing' noises whenever he is in motion (accompanied by requisite piston actions with his arms) and when he goes through a doorway or gate, I am not allowed to close the door/gate until his coaches are through as well!

Tigermoth · 18/03/2001 12:19

my happy thought; this the first time I have got mumsnet on another pc. I took me some time, but I've done it. I'm such a technophobe. AWFUL KEYBOARD, SO BYE FOR NOW.

Start, plese go and lie in a darkened room for the rest of the day, you have obviously been invaded by aliens during the night. You are not yourself at the moment, do not worry this will pass, next thing you'll be listening to will be Dr Dre and Snoop whats his name!!!!

Happy thought: It's Mothers Day on Sunday and the clocks go forward 1 hour for British Summer Time. Hurray! the best six months of the year are about to begin. (You can always hope). Can someone, somewhere tell me that spring is really round the corner?.

Midge · 23/03/2001 21:48

My happy thought is a bit soppy. On mothers day last year my baby (premature) was still in special care, I arrived at the unit in the morning to find the staff had done a card for me with a little tiny footprint on it (I know it was his because he still had ink on his toes!) I cried, and as with every day he was there I broke my heart when I had to go home and leave him.
So this year my now not at all tiny son is home, happy, fit and lively and will get big smakky kisses off his soft mommy. He'll probably just slobber on me or bite me - a habit I'm trying to break. How things change...

Emmy · 24/03/2001 11:28

Aaah Midge that's a really lovely happy thought, thanks for that! Ive had a c* night with the baby and Ive gone all mushy now!

Marina · 26/03/2001 09:18

Here's a happy thought on behalf of some acquaintances I know, a really nice couple who aren't able to have children of their own (he has two teenagers from his first marriage). On Sunday we were all at church and while she was singing in the choir he turned up in our creche with two sweet little boys. I knew his children were quite a bit older, so asked if they were guests, and he said not, they were his and his wife's, as of Thursday! They are being adopted. Brothers aged three and four, they have had a difficult start in life but had fantastic foster parents who really helped them for 18 months. And now they have a mum and dad of their own and older siblings who are dying to meet them. At the end of the service the children bring flowers up to hand out to their mums, always a magic moment, but particularly this Mothering Sunday. It put my grumbles about losing an hour's sleep, spending most of Friday evening sponging (baby) poo out of the bedroom carpet etc, back in perspective.

Debsb · 26/03/2001 12:33

Another one - I got 10 Mothers day cards yesterday (no, I only have 2 kids), I got time to go to the gym on my own, and I'm well on the way to reducing my hours at work so that I only work term times (ok - it reduces my salary as well but you can't have everything!. I might even get to go to the loo on my own soon - bliss.

Midge · 26/03/2001 20:55

The good news is that last night we got to sleep straight throught from 11pm until 8 am. Bliss after no sleep for a fortnight (snot, coughs, rash and teething). The memory of night feeding had just begun to fade...
The bad news is that my husband has now gone down with the lurgy, he copes about as well as the baby... sigh

Jac · 05/04/2001 17:20

It's Friday tomorrow hooraah!! Total day off for me ,both are going to nursery. Lunch out without kids, going to the loo without kids, peaceful car journeys without kids. Just got to get through bathtime/bedtime now then (singing) I'm free to do what I want any ol' time.

Today would be a good day to revive this thread. Especially if anyone had any jokes or anything...

Yesterday my son and I were trying to get a cab and having no luck. Two City type guys were waiting also and managed to get the first one-- they handed it over to us! Also, on a very crowded bus last week, a woman jumped up and offered me her seat (I'm 37+ weeks pregnant).

Small things, but still nice.

Here's something that is making me happy at the moment, despite all the worry over relatives living in America (Boston, New York, Washington & Annapolis!) - my six month old daughter is starting to crawl & babble like a deranged animal at the same time! And its wonderful! Throughout yesterday afternoon, whilst I was waiting for word of my relatives, she kept me smiling with her bum wiggling, rocking back & forth on her knees, and constant mindless chatter. Thank God for children - they really help you put life in perspective.
