Pamina, do you have Internet access at home? And if not, how do you propose to tell us all about how things go?
My last day was the end of May and I waddled off in search of a taxi with a lovely bunch of flowers as tall as I was. When I found one and took several minutes levering me and my gerbera into it, the driver (having left me to it) asked me, So what are those for then?...
Good luck, count the hours down and somehow keep us posted.

Have a lovely maternity leave Pamina, oh I'm getting broody again.........or maybe its just the thought of 18 weeks off work?

Morag · 09/03/2001 22:00

Good God Kia - no fags and no alcohol!! Pure misery!! Have a drink - the sugar in alcohol is only carbohydrate by default and it DOES make you feel a bit better (as long as you don't take too much). My happy thought for the day - of which there have been very few this week - spend an hour with friends - I have and they fair cheer you up - even if you don't talk about anything sensible.

Kia · 09/03/2001 22:21

I've taken your advice and got the last of a tub of ben&jerrys chocolate ice cream and read the final chapter of my book in peace while the hordes watch saving private ryan downstairs! Sheer bliss!

Happy thought - I was able to sit on my back step this morning and the sun felt warm! The crocuses are flowering too (a week ago they were all under a foot of snow). My son is sleeping on my lap as I type this and I am just about to curl up on the sofa with the sunday papers and my husband will fetch me a large glass of wine.

I've enjoyed reading these posts. Good luck Pamina by the way!

Tigger · 11/03/2001 20:19

Happy thought for the day, we've now got several young lambs again, the sun shone after a burst of rain and they were running around the field, made me feel great, my though was "it must be great not to have a care in the world". Also, good food for tea and good company, we had friends in, damn good couple of hours!! Kids are sound asleep, and very peaceful. My thoughts are with the family who have just lost there 4 year old son in Kilmarnockshire.

Tom · 12/03/2001 09:09

I just read a lovely article here - worth the 4/5 minutes it'll take to read.

Lil · 12/03/2001 10:14

Tom, that was sweet! how did you find it? I think you must have less to do at work than me at the moment!!

BTW Tom, I was impressed with the budget afterall. But how annoying that the paternity leave isn't coming in until 2003. It's too long to wait for me I think, and certainly Bells and Pamina! why is there always a time lapse with Budget issues?

Tom · 12/03/2001 10:29

I was working on our web traffic and checked out the open directory project (kind of yahoo! but better) - www.dmoz.org - I found it there.

Time lag on budget - they have to win an election, draft legislation, get it through the house, set up financial systems with Inland Revenue, inform businesses of how it will work, and they've got to make room in the budget (which is set a year in advance) - I know it's a pig, that's just how it is.

Hopefully many dads will get some time off from their employer in the meantime.

Kia · 12/03/2001 21:27

Is this happy land, or did the real world just break through for a minute there?!

Tom · 12/03/2001 22:29

Kia, you started this message board, so you must be on level one at least!

Yes it's good to escape the serious, Star, but having a good moan can make you really happy too!!!

Morag · 14/03/2001 11:59

Happy happy thoughts - the car is not broken after all, it is nearly pay day, it is Wednesday and we are half way through the week, I have lost 2lbs this week without trying and ER is on tonight!!!!

Lil · 14/03/2001 14:16

V. happy cos I have finally found a baby-friendly holiday that's not booked up - a week at Moonfleet Hotel in Weymouth. It has an all day nursery and baby listening service!Fingers crossed for sunshine in May!

Emmagee · 14/03/2001 14:26

Something that made me laugh out loud on a dreary morning www.delia.co.uk go on...read it and weep! "Up until now many of you have been able to learn from me, but now I will also be able to learn from you" oh please!

Now i do realise I'm going to upset some hardened Delia fans..

Croppy · 14/03/2001 15:24

Ha ha Emmagee - most entertaining. On this subject, I watched Jamie Oliver for the first time on Monday. I have to say I was horrified by his food hygiene!. He chopped up his veg on the same chopping board where the raw meat had been left and with the same knife without so much as rinsing either... I spent most of the programme leaning into the telly shouting at him to wash his hands.

Tigger · 14/03/2001 15:38

Watched Gary Rhodes last night, how can he say that he cooked that lamb, good grief!, and the media etc go on about bugs and what not, it was very, very rarely cooked, the thought of eating it like that made me want to rush to the loo. Can't stand Delia, she is a sarcastic, over powering, balshy, demeaning who thinks she is IT!!
Happy thought for the day, well that would be the glass of wine with my tea, and genie appearing and saying yes, you can go the Bahamas for a fortnight, without catching foot and mouth!!

Croppy · 14/03/2001 15:45

Yeah Tigger - many London restaurants serve lamb rare these days. I think it is horrid and unlike beef, doesn't do the taste and texture any favours.

Snowy · 14/03/2001 15:56

Oh some nice red meat with a bit of blood that's my happy thought, garlic mash to mop up the blood with. I had you down as a real carnivore Tigger.
