My elderly Grandmother was rushed into Hospital she collapsed. It was her Birthday while in hospital, on her birthday I was going to visit with my 6 year old. But Mum invited us out so I chose to go with Mum. Rang and told Grandma I was spending day with my husband and son she was fine.
But mum put photos of us out with her and her new partner, Granny sent me a text and said she was very hurt that I had told her a lie, get on really well with both Grandma and Grandad they have always supported me, but I have told them I do not wish to see them ever again, she sent me a text saying she was back home and sorry she had over reacted and wished me well. Not answered her do you think I should

Is this a reverse? If not, YABU.

Bumblebeeinatree · 26/04/2024 20:47

So mean to your Grandma. And what's with your mum, didn't she want to see your Grandma on her birthday? Rather than dragging you away.

Team Grandma here,

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 20:52

Mum has never got on with Grandma Dads mum and they are divorced and have been for many years I get on with Dad but he’s not been the same with me since this incident.

Have I got this right?

-went out with mum instead of visiting Grandma in hospital on her birthday

-told grandma you were with son and husband (but didn't mention mum?)

-when grandma got upset you said you never wanted to see her again

If that's right... it's not pleasant.

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 20:53

Sorry what do you mean is this reverse, . Mum does not like Grandma

marshmallowhearts · 26/04/2024 20:54

It was kind of shitty to dump your poor grandmother on her birthday (did she spend it alone in the hospital?) for “better” plans. Also major overreaction to never see her again for a mild text telling you her feelings on being dumped.

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 20:55

She wasn’t on her own Grandad and Dad were with her

StoorieHoose · 26/04/2024 20:57

So your granny can still see her divorced daughter in laws photos somehow even though she doesn't like her

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 26/04/2024 20:58

That sounds a bit of a massive over reaction.

Were you actually allowed to visit with a 6 year old?

When I was in hospital last year it was my birthday, then my 11 year old daughters birthday the very next day, and my 11 year old was not allowed in to see me on either mine OR her birthday.

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 20:59

It was on my post wasn’t aware Mum had posted it

OP posts:
Forhecksake · 26/04/2024 20:59

Given that she's elderly and recently hospitalised, how will you feel if she dies before her next birthday?

Will you still think it's ok because at least she wasn't totally alone?

IrritableVowel · 26/04/2024 20:59

Why did you lie to her in the first place?

Then, why did you tell her you don't want to see her again when she called you about it?

thistimelastweek · 26/04/2024 21:00

Granny gets upset because you lied to her snd you see that as reasonable grounds to cut all contact?

You can't be for real.

(If Granny posts my advice to her would be to tell you to fuck off.)

Crumpleton · 26/04/2024 21:02

You lied and got caught out.

Then take umpage when your Gran mentioned how hurt she was.

At the very least stop playing the victim, hold your hands up and admit, even if only to yourself, you were in the wrong.

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 21:02

She was very sharp with me and said I was selfish and she felt let down. Also Dad asked if my daughter could go in and take her card and present and was told yes but Mum had arranged a Day out for us it was a surprise

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 26/04/2024 21:03

Yes you are being very very unreasonable.

  1. you say she has always supported you. The least you could do was make even one hour to go and see her on her birthday.
  2. You get one text telling you that you need not have lied and you say you never want to see her again. FFS. All it took was a phone call to say change of plans and you went out with your mum instead.

What you did was self-centred and without any concern for your sick grandma on her birthday and then reacted like a spoiled child.

I hope you rethink, go and see her with flowers and apologise.

CatamaranViper · 26/04/2024 21:04

Clearly your grandma doesn't mean much to you if you can cut her off because she's hurt you lied to her.

LighthouseCat · 26/04/2024 21:04

You have not behaved well. You lied and you hugely overreacted. Your grandma is being the emotionally intelligent one here. Apologise to your grandmother. You will regret it if you don't.

Greywitch2 · 26/04/2024 21:06

both Grandma and Grandad they have always supported me, but I have told them I do not wish to see them ever again,

You sound horrible. And really immature. Who on earth behaves like this once they've outgrown their teens? Over a text where your GM expressed she was hurt by your behaviour.

I hope they never bother with you again, frankly. And I hope you miss their support.

Did your mum arrange this knowing you were going to visit your Gran in hospital in order to stop you going?

There's one day a year that's your Gran's birthday and your DM asks you to go out on that very day.

BeADinosaur · 26/04/2024 21:09

abracadabra1980 · 26/04/2024 21:06

What is a reverse?

A reverse is where you post from the opposite person's POV (usually grossly exaggerated to make the internet agree they're awful humans)

So in this thread it would be that the Op is actually the Grandmother posting about what her granddaughter did to her.

@Justbeingmyselfagain if this isn't a reverse, then you are an awful human.

Shiveringinthecountry · 26/04/2024 21:09

It's hard to believe this is serious.

If it is then yes, YABU. How could you treat your grandmother so cruelly?

Lampslights · 26/04/2024 21:29

What the heck am I reading. Who behaves like this??

are you really posting you lied to your grandmother who was in hospital and when she got understandably upset you said you never wish to see her again and now you’re some how trying to blame your own mother?

whats wrong with you?

Justbeingmyselfagain · 26/04/2024 21:32

You have all made me think about this I will text her tomorrow
but I feel pulled between Mum,
and Dads Family Dad takes my daughter to see them at weekends.
