Thread 175 - will we never shut up?! Pull up a chair and have a good whinge about domestic tedium and annoyingly fictional HBFs... (once we've finished the other thread).

Morning wenches.

Enjoyed that drink last night, I usually get it with ice so that was a change Grin

Super busy yesterday again. Then mad traffic getting home, DH was out so I was on lift duty to and from SportingActivity but no point coming home in between. Went to nearby supermarket which looks a decent size with a plan for a leisurely browse. Reverse Tardis effect so that didn’t take long. Waited in the car for ages and then, as per, they were late out and DS2 was last one. Back home, did the dishes, watched some tv and then went to bed.

Today I don’t plan to do anything except collect a prescription and then continue knitting.

Hurrah for golf club having reopened and for MrApricot playing some rounds - purely for his benefit and enjoyment and not to benefit anyone else. Obviously.

ApricotCrush · 02/03/2024 16:27

Afternoon. Woke up to snow, enormous flakes, but it didn’t last long. It’s just raining now, again.

Usual stuff here and I’m also knitting.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 02/03/2024 17:36

Afternoon.

I have had a fairly usual Saturday. Up early to feed livestock, then back to bed for a lie-in. Then reading, a walk (including wading through floods and watching to see which cars braved them, and which turned around to go a different way), natter with Dad, and home before the very dark grey clouds emptied themselves on us. Lovely rainbow afterwards though- I'm off to dig up the graveyard now, because according to tradition, there should be a pot of gold in there somewhere. Or maybe not Grin

What are you knitting at the moment apricot/LetUs?

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 02/03/2024 19:59

Evening wenches.

Snow Apricot! Thank goodness it didn’t last.

Sounds a lovely day Helen except for the rain. Did you find the gold?

I’ve been knitting some square washcloths for the various family babies. They’ve got either initials or a picture on them. I’m ignoring the still unfinished cardigan. I shall ignore it some more tomorrow whilst I sew up a onesie for a teddy bear.

I have been persevering with The Tudors. I’m enjoying some of the captions such as “North Yorkshire, England” or “Rome, Italy”. It was obviously felt the extra clarification was needed Grin

LetUsPrey · 03/03/2024 08:02

Morning wenches.

Seems to be trying to be bright outside. Dry though.

Usual Sunday ahead here.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 03/03/2024 10:26

Morning all. Bit dreary outside and chilly, but not raining.

BBC2 seem to be having a little TB festival - 'True Things' is on tonight, and then 'Souvenir' is on tomorrow night. Both on v. late, so it's a sneaky 'under the radar' mini-fest Grin

IdiotKitty has been quite cute (in a bloodthirsty sort of way). He got a rabbit overnight and brought it inside (cue bloody carnage, and hurrah for hard floors and for DH getting up first so he had to deal with it for once.) Anyway, KillerKitty had stashed the back end of the rabbit in a corner to finish later, but DH chucked it outside. Once KillerKitty had slept off his first stomach full this afternoon, I showed him where it was to finish it off. He has chomped down most of it, and then tried to cover the rest up in a primal instinct sort of way, by scratching dead grass and random vegetation on top of it. It's just the whole, "I'm hiding this because that's what I do, but I don't know why" vibe from him. Awww. Grin

It's still cloudy and unappealing outside.

Afternoon. Lovely day, but cold. DH is mowing the lawn, it’s nearly waist high slight exaggeration.

I’m knitting yet another jumper for myself Helen. Hmm I used to knit for the DC and DGC when they were little and I’ve done clothes for Sindy and Action Man and made toys. I can sew but I would rather knit. My mum was a tailoress by profession but she didn’t knit. My aunt taught me how to knit. DD can sew, she has GCSE in it, but hasn’t done any since then and has never shown any interest in knitting. I tried to teach DGD how to knit and that fell by the wayside, but she now has her own sewing machine and makes some of her own clothes. It’s funny how the genes make their way down the generations.

I have the DVD for True Things but haven’t got around to watching it, so I’ll record it. I’ve seen The Souvenir.

LetUsPrey · 03/03/2024 18:08

Evening wenches.

I shall record those TB films.

It’s similar here Apricot. My grandma taught me to knit, my mum was very talented with sewing but doesn’t sew any more. My older sister is better at sewing but also knits well. I can sew in as much as sewing on buttons to knitted items. I did teach DS1 to knit but no idea if he remembers. My younger sister has missed any such gene and freely admits she would rather just wave the plastic Grin I think I’ve still got some of the knitting patterns for the Sindy doll clothes.

Grin At IdiotKitty thinking I have all these instincts but I have no idea what they are!

I have washed and ironed, made flapjacks, done lots of visiting and then had a bath’n’book.

FancyFancy · 03/03/2024 19:12

Evening
Thanks for the good wishes wenches Smile Still not 100% but did manage a lovely relaxed birthday & last night the DC took me out for dinner. Otherwise having a quiet weekend with Chonk & Floof. Decided to see if Chonk wanted to come out in the garden with me this afternoon - he hid behind the sofa and then howled at me when I came in. Since then he's been mostly hiding under my bed. So no, not ready for outside yet!

Am in awe of our knitters on here - I used to knit as a girl, but my mum and her mum were the good knitters who taught me and who corrected all my mistakes so after they died I gave it up.

How are the water levels now helen?

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 03/03/2024 22:24

Awww at ScaredyChonk Grin IdiotKitty is still sleeping off the rabbit.

Water levels are high, but the floodwater isn't actually in the garden (just on the boundary). The groundwater is still very high though, and the roads are suffering from surface water flooding.

I don't think I've done much today. Cooking, taxi-ing, eating chocolate... think I'm going to head for bed now.

Morning wenches.

Chonk sounds like when I ask DS2 if he’d like to go for a walk. Pleased you’re on the right side of things Fancy.

Frosty here which I wasn’t expecting. DS2 is heading to BigTown today which means a very early bus. He’s not up yet. Le sigh.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/03/2024 07:52

Morning. Bright and sunny and frosty here too. If I close my eyes and look through the window, it's positively basking weather. Obvs not if you're actually outside - then it's shivering weather.

IdiotKitty has been batshit (sprinting back and forwards across the house and wanting the kick boards taken down in the kitchen so he can explore under the cupboards (it's one way to get dusting done down there!)

Hope that MiniLetus gets on well in BigTown, and everyone has a good day. (Wicked - how's your cold now? Hope you've shaken it off.)

ApricotCrush · 04/03/2024 16:19

Afternoon. Frosty start here too, but quite a nice day.

DGS’s Teddy has had his open fluff surgery and has gone home to rest. Grin

Hope MiniLetus got the bus alright.

Oh, just saw a seagull go over. No idea what they’re doing here, we’re not exactly close to the sea. Hmm

LetUsPrey · 04/03/2024 20:24

Evening wenches.

Tired and everything hurts.

DS2 missed the bus 🙄 but lucky for him there was another less than 15 minutes later which got him where he needed to be without about a minute to spare. I know it’s silly to be pleased that a 17 year has got a bus and found his way somewhere but DS2 can find some things tricky.

Awwwww at open fluff surgery Apricot - that’s so sweet! I think we get seagulls round here - perhaps it’s a combination of the canals and the smell of chips Grin

Are you planning on fastening a duster around IdiotKitty Helen? I can just imagine the pitch on Dragons Den.

<restocks medication, ointments and linaments for ailing wenches>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/03/2024 20:29

Evening.

Aww at Open Fluff Surgery Grin.

I have had a day of freelancing and adulting. (Pensions are very tedious.) Currently rather tired and hoping for an early night.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 05/03/2024 07:23

Morning wenches.

Did you get an early night Helen?

No ice on the windscreens this morning and it’s not raining so I’ll take that as a win.

<throws another log on the Tav fire>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/03/2024 10:58

Morning. I did get a fairly early night - and thus missed a freelancing email that I could really have done with picking up last night. <le sigh>

It's been quite pleasant here this morning, though looking at the clouds, I'm not sure it will stay that way. I've just unloaded 3 car boot-fulls of turf that was being given away on local facebook, but I haven't got the energy to lay them out where they need to be, so if it rains they'll get even heavier to shift Confused

I think that if I attached a feather duster to IdiotKitty, he would spin in circles/do contortions to try and kill it - viral video time! Grin

ApricotCrush · 05/03/2024 16:45

Afternoon. Lovely day here. I went into town earlier to get supplies and some birthday cards. Tuesday afternoon isn’t the best time to go, as I found out. I usually go in the morning. There were queues everywhere but good to see the town busy.

Well done to MiniLetUs for sorting himself out with the buses.

Gosh Helen that sounds like heavy work. I don’t get involved in the garden, just a bit of tidying up if needed.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 05/03/2024 19:01

Evening wenches.

Here’s hoping the turf didn’t get rained on and get any heavier.

My garden involvement is sitting on a lounger with a book or at the garden table with a jigsaw.

I enjoy seeing our town centres (home and work) being busy, just not when I’m wanting to shop Grin

<passes feather duster to IdiotKitty>

FancyFancy · 05/03/2024 20:42

Evening
Open fluffy surgery - love it 😁

Yay for DS2 getting the bus ok in the end letus

Great idea to get IdiotKitty helping with the housework Helen, not sure what my two would achieve - Floof has a Pigpen vibe about him - sheds all over the place. < Contemplates calling them Snorticus and Pigpen>

An unexpected day - dentist appointment on the way to work to confirm root canal treatment is needed. Got to work to receive a phone call to say they had a midday cancellation, did I want to have it done then. Well, might as well get it over with so that's what I did. Chap was a bit brisker than the last time, so it wasn't as pain-free but on the plus side my jaw isn't as stiff from having it clamped open so long, so no complaints here.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/03/2024 21:21

Evening all. I think there has been some rain.

I have had a haircut Shock - by an actual hairdresser, for the first time in I don't know how long. <re-enacts l'Oreal advert with swishy hair> Needless to say it's not quite what I envisaged, but it will do. It will also be interesting to see what it's like when it hadn't been blow-dried within an inch of its life. #haystack Grin

Good news re- dentist Fancy - hope it's all worked.

I have a friend who sorts out birthday cards for the entire year in one go. It sounds like the sort of thing that would be easy to do, but I just lack the organisation to make a list<nto> and hit the shops.

Anyway, freelancing is done and I think I won't have any last minute panics before tomorrow's deadline. I hope.
