Parking in front of neighbours house

I have a neighbour who has no regard for others. They leave their drive free only to park in front of my house. Any advice

Are they blocking you in? If they are parking on a public road with no parking restrictions there is absolutely nothing you can do, annoying as you may find it.

Clymene · 25/08/2023 11:01

If it's a public road, anyone can park there.

Tarrarra · 25/08/2023 11:01

What have they said when you’ve asked them why they do it?

yellowpurplebrown · 25/08/2023 11:02

If they're not blocking the lowered kerb to your driveway, they can park there.

It might be annoying but they don't need a reason or to explain themselves. It's a public road.

Spirallingdownwards · 25/08/2023 11:03

Advice - they are parking lawfully therefore there is no action to be taken.

HateTheView · 25/08/2023 11:03

It must be annoying but if they are parked legally then there isn't anything you can do.

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:05

There not blocking me in but the housing estate is very narrow why don't they just put there care on the drive or park in front instead of parking over the road opposite in front of mine.

Genunine question, why does it bother you?

If they had no drive, or a 2nd car already on the drive would you feel the same about them parking there?

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:11

Honestly it wouldn't bother me. If it was me I would have approached my neighbour to ask if it ok to park I would have been ok with that

Anyone can park anywhere they like as long as laws aren't broken and there's no obstruction. You are being unreasonable to think there's anything you can do to stop them.

We have a neighbour who runs out of her house ranting and raving when anyone parks outside her house. She has a double drive and only one car, so she never parks there herself, always on her own drive, yet she tells anyone who parks there to move! We (us and the neighbours) just laugh about her! I've heard a few people tell her to F Off when she's told them to move and they just leave it there and walk off, leaving her fuming!

I'm sure the OP parks their car outside someone's house occasionally!

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:17

That would be out of politeness. I guess I need to accept it for what it is. Although I would never park in front of there house when I have a drive or park on the front of my house . I find it very bizarre

If you have a drive park on it

To be blunt, it's none of your business where they park so long as it's lawful, so why bother about it?

It's very irritating if someone parks outside your house and you have their vehicle as the scenery. Unfortunately, as I found, there's no law against it. I'm with you in that I would never park directly outside someone's house, unless I'm visiting the person who's house it is.

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:21

Ok I get that but they would have something to say if I parked my car in front of there house

tattychicken · 25/08/2023 11:22

Did you have a ranty argument with them yesterday?

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:22

No

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 25/08/2023 11:22

You don't own the road. Find something worthwhile to bother with, you are being ridiculous to be affronted by this.

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:23

I don't mind but the bloody car has been there a week without moving

OP posts:
Marblessolveeverything · 25/08/2023 11:23

When was this new law enacted? Public roads can be parked on by anyone. These arbitrary rules are ridiculous and other newcomers who follow the law.

Valerie23 · 25/08/2023 11:25

You have two options.

  1. Act like a deranged person and shit on their bonnet.
  1. Go about your daily business without giving a second thought to a vehicle parked legally.
SD1978 · 25/08/2023 11:25

Only advice is get over it. Whilst it may be annoying and ignorant when they have a drive, you unfortunately have no leg to stand on to complain, so need to try and make your peace with it.

SD1978 · 25/08/2023 11:26

And if you can, to yo the passive aggressiveness, always park in front of their house and see if they have an issue
