Parking in front of neighbours house

I have a neighbour who has no regard for others. They leave their drive free only to park in front of my house. Any advice

There is absolutely nothing you can do, if they are parked legally. I had that situation for a number of years with a neighbour who parked on the street but had a drive which would easily take three cars. She left the drive free for her boys to play football in despite a grassy area right behind her house and a park with goalposts five minutes walk away. The street was often clogged with cars visiting her too. Fortunately she is no longer a neighbour. I feel your irritation.

We have a large bush/hedge so I can't see the neighbours who constantly park outside our house. It helps a lot!

ActDottie · 25/08/2023 11:32

Our neighbour does this. They have two cars, one parked in front of their house and the other one SHOULD be parked in the parking space round the back but no they park in front of our house as well. It does my head in when they have perfectly good parking round the back. It’s also dangerous where they park as it’s on a corner and all junctions on our estate are paved not tarmac not make it clear not to park there… but they still do park on the paved bit.

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:33

Honestly it's does get me mad especially when they can park on their drive or in front of there house . They choose to park over the road. I don't want neighbour wars so haven't mentioned it to anyone

Ok I get that but they would have something to say if I parked my car in front of there house

Would they? Why? And how do you know?

If the roads are maintained by the local council then contact them to put yellow lines on the corner.

Though it took repeat issues with the council bin lorries getting through before a local council near me finally put double yellows on the corners and curves one of my friend's roads.

Because their builders and of course they would have something to say what planet do iou live on

Next time you have visitors who arrive in their car, put your own car in front of their house and let your visitors park on your drive.

When the visitors have left leave your car on the public road for a few days.

(Oh and in some areas you get cheaper insurance if you park on a public road than on your drive.)

I had a neighbour like this. She had a flat drive that could easily park 4 cars on there, but chose to park in the road right in front of my drive. I have a very steep drive and trying to get off it, with her car opposite was difficult with lots of back and forth (quite a narrow road). I fully appreciate that she was completely within her rights to park where she did, but it made life really difficult for me.

On occasions, if the spot was free id park in front of her house, or opposite her spot so she either had to use her drive, or in most cases park down the road. She once came and asked me to move as she couldn't get on her drive. I said I couldn't as I had a drink, but her that I had the same issue when she parked in front of my drive. It didn't make any difference and she kept parking there. So if park there if I got the chance. It got very petty. I've now moved but keep in touch with someone still living in the road and it's got worse as the people that bought my house have 2 cars and often park on the road.

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:42

When they eventually move the car I was tempted to put my car at the front but might leave it a week or two so it doesn't look petty. Interested that when they eventually move there car will they put it straight back in front of my house

I never get why it bothers people, its on the road, its not causing you any issues and not blocking anyone in or out. Whats the issue with a car parked on the road, legally?

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:46

Because it's a private estate and as you know the roads are narrow and the car is virtually on top of you front window .

This would piss me off too. Our neighbours have a habit of going away for three weeks and parking a massive transit van outside our house and within a cm of our driveway meaning it’s really hard to get round and blocks visibility almost completely. Why do t they leave it on their empty drive?!

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:47

I guess this hasn't happened to you

I had this in a previous house. Neighbour with large works van used to park in front of my house which had very small front garden so van was right outside my window. They had a tandem 2 car driveway but he was home 1st and away in morning 1st so did it to avoid having to get wife to let him out in morning!
I took to parking on street in front of my house until I saw him arrive and have to park in front of his own house, then I'd put my car on my drive.

And you choose to get mad over it. Don’t waste your energy. They are parking legally, they aren’t stopping access to your home. You may not like it but is it really worth getting this wound up over?

caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:49

No idea I guess they like a empty drive or the kids can play on it. There is a park 50 yards down the street with a green .

OP posts:
caterpiller2 · 25/08/2023 11:52

Might do that park on the front and when they have parked put my car back on my own drive

That would irritate me as well

I'd rather have my car in the drive.,less chance of getting hit

I thought insurance preferred cars in drive's overnight

smooththecat · 25/08/2023 12:03

If they are parking a car then it’s fine really.
If parking is limited and they are using three spaces (outside your house, their drive, and across their drive), then yes, it’s unneighbourly and obnoxious.
Count yourself lucky that they are not parking a gigantic motorhome outside your house that fills your front window entirely. What a great view to open the curtains to, thanks neighbours. I bought a car and parked it there to stop them.
