What's the weather like up there Oggs? It's sunny but freezing here. We're having a lazy day in. I'm not even dressed yet.

Berrie · 17/02/2008 13:47

Lordy Lyra Kids woke at 6am this morning....groan.(Passes Oggs some tissues)

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 17/02/2008 13:52

There doesn't seem much point in getting dressed now.
We were out all day yesterday in the cold so I feel justified in having a lazy day . We'll go out and do something fun tomorrow.
What are you up to today Berrie?

Berrie · 17/02/2008 14:31

I've just put the second coat on the hen house. We went to get some thornless blackberries from an allotment holder and put them in our orchard which was difficult as the soil was frozen.
There is a lamb shoulder in the oven slow cooking a la Jamie...at least it would be if I could remember the recipe...a Berrie version anyway.
Dh is out flying...
How much was your extension going to cost? I can afford a conservatory now but dh wants to wait until we can afford an extension...trouble is I want more room now while I live here every day...not when I'm out earning again. {have I posted this already?)

We were told it would cost about £1,200 per square foot, but that's London prices. I think we guestimated that our 2m by 3m extension would cost around £15,000 fully fitted out and decorated. I think a conservatory would be lovely. And I know what you mean about needing more space now - it's so much more important when you and dc are in the house all day than later when you're at work and they're at school most of the day.

LyraSilvertongue · 17/02/2008 14:40

Or was it per cubic metre? I can't remember. Google house extension cost and you'll find a few websites which can give you a rough idea. Consevatories can cost as little as a couple of thousand.

Berrie · 17/02/2008 15:26

Thanks...found an extension calculator...£86696.43 for a 2 storey!

Just had a row with my sister as she has dc on her facebook. She has sleazy conversations with strange men and meets some of of them and has sex. I just didn't want dc's faces on there associated with that. I asked her to take them off and she gave it all the it's nothing to do with you, it's my profile and they are my niece and nephew and my decision.

Is that as ridiculous as she thinks?

LyraSilvertongue · 17/02/2008 15:28

They're your children, your decision over what happens to their images imo. I'd be very angry with her.
£86k sounds like an awful lot. Are you thinking of doubling the size of your house?

Berrie · 17/02/2008 15:30

Yes

Berrie · 17/02/2008 15:34

We have plans which came with the house. The make the box room a sensible size and give us a master bedroom with en-suite. Downstairs we get 2 extra rooms and a cloakroom...wouldn't do that though, would prefer an open living kitchen area and cloakroom.

LyraSilvertongue · 17/02/2008 15:48

Wow, it sounds like it's worth the money. You can never have too much space or too many toilets with dc in the house.

Berrie · 17/02/2008 16:02

Yes but we only have conservatory money

Atchoo! Good morning

Happy Holidays for tomorrow Binkle. How's the pooch?

It's bloody freezing up here. We've not had running water for a week. Poor dh is having to lug it up by the bucket from the river. Also means I can't have any of my marathon bath sessions with book and snack .

Had a delivery of potatoes last week so just need to get them chitted. I've got 5 mayan gold which I'm going to do in tyres - dh is in charge of the other 60+.

Berrie · 18/02/2008 09:20

I've never done potatoes Oggs.
Binkle have loads of fun! How long are you going for?
(Berrie sends up a water tanker to Oggs)

oggsfrog · 18/02/2008 09:26

Never. Done. Potatoes.
You must Berrie. The dc will love unearthing them and the taste is amazing. Nothing like shop bought.

Berrie · 18/02/2008 09:32

Well, I need to get a bed dug up the allotment and I can't do it myself. Do they need putting in now?

OP posts:
Berrie · 18/02/2008 09:34

Are you dieting Oggs?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 18/02/2008 09:41

You don't have to do them in a bed. I'm doing mine in tyres (any large container will do).
Basically you start with one tyre laid on ground. Add soil and plant your spud. When it bigger you add another tyre over the first and 'earth it up' (fill 2nd tyre with soil) leaving the top of the plant uncovered. Repeat with a third tyre.
When the flowers start to die you dig/rummage etc removing the tyres as you go.

You can even do them in a strong bin bag. Rolled down to start with and unroll/fill with more soil as you go.

Easy peasy and you'll have the most delicious potatoes you've ever tasted

Hope Binkle is okay. She sounded very down in her last post and has not been around since...
