notte tutte

Brangelina · 06/03/2008 23:11

Nooo Franca, only the children eat at 5.30 then off to bed so they have no time to get hungry later. Or adults can have a light snack with the children then a light supper later. I think it stems from the days when children had tea in the nursery or something.

I don't think going to bed at 6.30 necessarily means getting up earlier, although I do think it is a bit excessive. DD still wakes up at 7 even if she goes to bed at 9. My sis's lot sleep 12-13 hours, or at least one of them does, the other just gets told to stay in bed or at least play quietly in his room until the clock says 7 (then she puts the clock back so it's actually later- naughty naughty naughty).

My dd has learnt to play by herself at weekends, she'll get out of bed and play with the cats or do a puzzle/draw a picture on her own and not disturb mummy for another half hour or so. Sometimes I manage to get a bit more in but then she comes and tells me she's hungry [mean mummy emoticon] so I have to get up then.

Gio - I have to sing this gospel song to get my dd off to sleep when all else fails. Oddly enough it works a treat. My sister had the hair thing from her ds when he was smaller, maybe it's a boy thing?

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2008 09:01

Sorry, you won't convince me, I can't get over this dinner at 5.30 thing or bedtime at 6.30. I accept that it is a sensible habit in a northern country where it gets dark really early etc etc, or if you need to wake your dc very early when you have a long commuting, but otherwise I can't see the point. Mind you, I was really when I realized that here lots of children go to bed at 11 .

I've been really organized today and have already done tons of ironing. Sad, mois???

Brangelina · 07/03/2008 09:21

Ironing? What's that?

Franca, you should know it gets darker later in northern climes

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2008 09:52

I thought in the winter it's dark at 3 in places like sweden...
no autodisciplina either, I should go and do stuff. boring.
Pippi where are you???

Brangelina · 07/03/2008 10:02

Maybe you're right. I'm confused now, I remember white nights in a St Petersburg summer and darkness at 6pm in Cuba. Brain is too addled at the moment.

Must make panini. Ciao!

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2008 10:18

yes, but white nights are in the summer. It gets dark really early in the north (check the movie 28 days of night )

Rosa · 07/03/2008 13:12

If I fed dd at 5.30 it would cut up my / and her day too much she would miss the afternoon walk as she sleeps til 3.30 /4 though am expecting this to shorten soon !
She goes down at 7.30/8.00 and sleeps til 6.30 /7.30 which suits me fine.
Even nonni have come round to this when in the UK as they can see it works for us. She has her dinner at 6.30/7.00 ish some nights bath as she loves it , bit of ITNG / story and bed. Thankfully she has alwyas been quite good about going down but recently I have to go back for a second cuddle after about 10 mins then she goes down. Gio I feel sorry for you must be hell. I like my evenings to be honest!
Still effin cold and windy here....

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2008 14:57

Very cold here as well. Dh went to get the dc (he is not teaching today), I went to buy a present for my mum... now I have 30 mins for myself before they arrive. We are going to the countryside today, I just hope that the weather will turn a bit warmer.
Rosa, yes, dd changed her "falling asleep" patterns as well when she got to 2 yrs old. She wanted more cuddles and more stories. must be a phase

Rosa · 09/03/2008 09:35

Well Dd party a success. I cooked solidly for 2 days made a great cake ( even if I say so myself) and we had lots of toddlers running round plus some big ones as well. Am now shattered. DD has too many presents we seem to have cleared out original Marines and Iana Bimbi !!
Leftovers anybody ???????

OP posts:
hotHELL · 09/03/2008 19:43

Would love some cake!

francagoestohollywood · 09/03/2008 20:39

Yes some cake this way too!

Brangelina · 09/03/2008 21:45

So, what cake was it???? Swap you a piece of Lidl chocolate for a slice of whatever you made. Or even anything else you might have left over. I'll just put the kettle on for my tisana while I'm waiting....

francagoestohollywood · 09/03/2008 21:53

oi Brangelina, when are you coming to milan?

Brangelina · 09/03/2008 22:07

You got cake too? If you have cake I'll be on the next train . I think I might have to pass through in the week, if not this week then def the next.

Are you watching Report? Depressing stuff. I've only been listening from a distance but am feeling indignant all the same.

Rosa · 10/03/2008 08:40

Yes have cake ....but dd likes it and I took the icing off and gave it to her for breakfast ( naughty mummy !). SO you better come past quick guys or it will all be gone. WHen I work out how I will upload a pic or e mail it as I am rather proud !!
Don't watch report or much telly now as I find it confusing / utterly depressing and I feel I should do more... Mind you I do have sky news on now as watching for the storms and bad weather in the west of UK.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/03/2008 08:43

Ooh, icing. Did you have marzipan too or is it only used on Christmas cake? [ignorant about icing emoticon].

I'll just put a pot of coffee on and come over. What else ya got? Did you make fairy cakes too?

hotHELL · 10/03/2008 09:16

sounds lovely! what are the depressing news then? berlusconi related?
here we have had a stormy beginning to the day, of course ds loved it, we got completely soaked. i think there are gales in teh south west though.

Brangelina · 10/03/2008 11:46

No, not Berlusconi this time, all about illegal toxic waste dumps and contadini growing food on/near them or watering their plants with polluted water, local govt saying that there's not a problem and that everything has been bonificato and it's up to the contadino to declare if there's a problem (yeah, right).

Cold and rainy here too, yesterday we didn't go out at all, made biscuits with DD who got flour on her shoulders and in her eyebrows, among other places.

francagoestohollywood · 10/03/2008 11:57

I forgot that report has started again.
Ds and dd have started a little orchard in their grandparents garden over the weekend, they went to the contadino nearby to get some cow's poo and have built two scarecrow. Have to say I have no merit in this, it's my inlaws who are really fab.
Brangelina, no I have no cake, but we could go to that lovely pasticceria, de cherubini, in piazza 24 maggio.

It's cold, has it been bad in the UK? I'm worried about my house .

Rosa · 10/03/2008 12:43

I used posh icing ( not butter ) ok ready made stuff . ANd made little fairy cakes , and salatini , and pizzette, and a chocolate biscuit thingy and biscuits ......It was exhausting in my crappy kitchen.
AM jealous with your dc Franca I loved my orto that I did with my mum when I was small .It was an extension on hers really but I loved it.
Sounds like the UK has had atough time windy windy , yuck .. G Parents sent text as the phone is out.

francagoestohollywood · 10/03/2008 13:03

gosh rosa you are a domestic goddess !!!!

Yes, I think it is lovely for the children to "do" things. Unfortunately I find I'm not very good at teaching this kind of things , luckily dh's family is incredibly creative and noi li sfruttiamo . I think ds would thrive in a steiner school .

Gosh this thread is finishing too!!!

Rosa · 10/03/2008 13:16

Just realised my English was terrible in my last thread.
I am quite creative but I lack space here I want to paint with dd ( I am rubbish at art) and do dido, and lots of messy things but we just don't have the space. Our flat is big but its badly laid out plus we have some furniture that comes with it ( horrible bulky things) and landlady will not let us throw any more out !!
I loved doing the preparing for the party but I kept running out of space to put things!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/03/2008 13:17

at the little garden. I'd really love my DD to be able to potter in one. Or even just for me to be able to grow "proper" potatoes. I must admit hating it myself when I was younger, but that was because I was being constantly nagged to cut the grass and weed my radishes.

Rosa, you made all that? (as in impressed). If you've got any fairy cakes left, chuck them in my direction will ya? As an aside, where do you buy the paper cases? I've only seen muffin cases in Esselunga but the packs are of 3 at a time or something ridiculous.

Rosa · 10/03/2008 13:22

I found some paper cases quite big ones largish fairy in Coin but I bought the little ones in the Uk - Nobody noticed that they had holly on the side. I still have some muffin size ones. So if you feel creative Brangelina. I miss just having a space to plant things . There was this flat with a cortile but it was on the grd floor so we had to say no but I was tempted just for that !
Now dd party is over the flat hunt continues .... Rosa trots off to casa.it
