Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 05/03/2008 12:00

And Happy Birthday to Rosettina! So she's a piscean, is she artistic and dreamy?
My DD's a Cancerian and the only trait I remember about cancerians are that they're perfect homemakers. My DD is fanatic about cleaning so maybe it's true. DP can't wait to teach her how to iron (or rather send her out for lessons) so he doesn't have to do his own shirts anymore.

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 12:27

It is vomity with mal di pancia all'altezza dell'ombelico. Mind you last week he had cold/cough and temp. I was so smug about them never being ill: it was probably the devonian climate, the wind just cleared bugs from the air.

I think it depends on how close the relationship between your mum and dd is. We left the children for a few days at an even younger age with both sets of grandparents, but they are really close and have always been comfortable with nonni (with me obviously ringing in apprehension 4 or 5 times a day, but that's another matter ).
gosh yes, summer. We are going with other 3 families with small children, which rules out the possibility of camping, which I'd like to do. Not to mention the fact that we'd like: be in the same house, with a garden, close to the beach, nice sea... for which you need the proverbial "portafoglio d'Onassis". dream on !

Brangelina · 05/03/2008 12:48

In which case it's probably illness from inquinamento. I remember being very headachey and sneezy for weeks when I first moved to London from the countryside. I'll keep an eye out for the mal di pancia, lately DD has been saying that she has a sore tummy but it's usually before a poo so I've not really worried about it. Maybe I should now.

DD adores her nonna (as in my mum, not mil who she last saw in May last year) but she doesn't like not being put to bed by me, thanks partly to DP and his "aspettiamo la mamma" instead of trying to put her to bed himself on my boxing nights. Nonna had to feed her and put her to bed when we went out on Sunday and DD had a tantrum at bedtime and was very off with nonna the next day. Oh well, she'll just have to get used to it I suppose, and at 3 it should be easier to ragionare with her, no?

Were you thinking of staying in Italy or going abroad to Greece or somewhere (or was that Pippi?). I find holidaying in Italy to be quite expensive compared to say Spain or Greece. Unless we go to IL's place at lido delle nazioni, which is not going to happen!

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 13:25

yes, the paed reckons that most of the coughs are caused by the inquinamento. and the absence of wind - which I egoistically enjoy - is very bad too.

Well, yes, if she's used to be put to bed only by you then I can see it can be more problematic to leave her for a few days. It is after all a question of "abitudine", I suppose.

We haven't decided where to go, and yes, Italy seems more expensive, at least in August. Thing is we could go gratis to Sicily given that inlaws have a house there, but the presence of very young children make the location not ideal (no sandy beaches).

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 13:26

arg I've been playing ruba mazzetto for ages. I'm going maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

Brangelina · 05/03/2008 13:46

Lol at the absence of wind. You do realise that had there been wind, the cause of your DC's illness would have been troppa aria .

Could you not secretly rent out your inlaw's place in Sicily and go somewhere else with the proceeds? Would they notice do you think? If you like we could swap inlaw pads - mine at lido delle nazioni for yours in Sicily. How does that sound to you?

Brangelina · 05/03/2008 13:46

I really should be doing some work. Or at least the washing.

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 13:52

no way

Brangelina · 05/03/2008 13:55

Wot, you don't want to go to Zanzara Plains?!?

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 16:08

brang car sharing, yes they were really pleased with it. But bought a second hand car with the birth of their baby. they use it very rarely though and are thinking of going back to car sharing. (they live in the centro, so don't really need the car anywya)

hotHELL · 05/03/2008 19:45

Braaaanngggg? I need your advice, told the midwife today that un cugino on maternal side had edward;s syndrome e mori quasi subito.(and very conveniently, it all happened in the dark south). Anyway she thought that that didn't make me more high risk!!!!! Damn and blasted. I felt like asking her what would make me more bloody high risk, and go for that. I am seeing the geneticist on friday hopefully, do you know how can i become high risk, per avere un cvs gratis????
I loooved ruba mazzetto, will have to teach ds...

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 20:39

do you want to do the cvs before nuchal scan at 12 weeks?
I really don't know what to suggest...
how are you feeling btw?

hotHELL · 06/03/2008 11:10

yes, i wanted it before, the earlier the better, so if there are problems i will not be too massive....
scared myself stiff last night trawling the net for congenital abnormalities in babies, went to bed in a panick..
i am feeling ok, still tired though..
it seems that you are happy about being in Milan? do you feel you made the right choice or is it too early to say?

Brangelina · 06/03/2008 11:24

OMG, that would be enough to get you a CVS here had you not been over 35 anyway. What do you have to do in the UK?. Can you not go and see a consultant? Or simply another midwife? It sounds as this one is determined to not let you have the test. What about your GP? I'm sorry, I don't know what else to suggest, not ever having gone through this in the UK. It's so silly, if they let you have the CVS they can save money on the nuchal test as you won't need it. BTW, I think you can only do CVS from 11 - 13 weeks (or maybe 14), no earlier as there won't be enough cells to take or something like that.

I am so on your behalf.

francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2008 12:29

I think the rationale behind the NHS is that nuchal scan is cheaper, therefore if nuchal scan gives a "normal" result they won't offer a CVS and therefore save money. Yes, I'd go and have a chat with your GP (Bran, I don't think that in the UK you can see a consultant without a referral from the GP ). How much is it having it done privately?
But please please hothell stop browsing the internet for problems (I'm the same btw I made terrible diagnosis for my self, from HIV to listeria )

Well, I really like Milano. I love walking, I've been walking chilometri since we have arrived. Has it been a good choice? Still don't know. Ds is still missing his life in the UK, his friends, which is good, but seems happy.

francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2008 12:31

i miss pippi.
Rosa, did you bake a cake at the end? How are you???

Rosa · 06/03/2008 13:01

Yes we did a cake for her actual birthday she had it after dinner and after the candles she polished off all the smarties ( well M&Ms as I wont buy Nestle) off the top she really got into the present opening and there were lots of oooohhhh guarda on her part which was lovely then she looked at Nonno at went loooooook.
I now have to do a cake for her party on sat but this one is more complex.
Hot talk to your gp about getting this and agree with Franca stop looking for defects ..Don't get yourself upset about it.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2008 13:11

, bless!

Rosa · 06/03/2008 13:24

Franca how are the dc any more nasty vomitinni ???

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/03/2008 13:40

How lovely Rosa, it's so cute when they say ooohh guarda! with that expression of wonderment in their eyes.

at your DD saying look, mine has never pronounced that word, even to her English cousins. It's guarda all the way with her. Yes is another word she won't say, it's always sì. Mind you, she did come out with a word perfect "don't break Mummy's balls" to the cat the other day, so perhaps all is not lost.

Hot, whilst I understand you looking on the internet in the name of research, please stop now and tell yourself that none of these things are going to happen to your baby, they are all, thankfully, extremely rare.

Brangelina · 06/03/2008 13:45

Blimey, the international school has just called me to say that they're doing a 2 hr after school club free of charge (well, at no more than the extortionate amount they're already asking). I spoke to DP about it and he still says no because it's in the opposite direction to where he works and very congested traffic wise. I'm going to try and do that route on my bike in the next few days to see how much of a bugger it'll realistically be if I took her every morning.

Oh decisions decisions.

Rosa · 06/03/2008 13:59

They don't offer transport as well from a central point ???
DD won't say yes either but we are on the No No No ( x200) stage at the moment .
She has been so good about english / italian with i nonni here I have been amazed at the way she switches or seems to know who speaks what . NOw it could be a fluke I hasten to add !
I am trying to get an image to put on dds cake ( the shop one if mine fails ) and not having much luck . Dont want Mickey or Pooh am trying for Noukie and Friends but the quality is naf

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/03/2008 14:06

We've reached the "perché?" x 1000 a day stage now, so my sympathies with the nos.
IIRC with dd no was mastered months before sì ever had a look in, so we had a long period of pure negativity. She still uses no a lot, though, particularly in relation to the clothes I choose for her in the mornings. She's become a right little fashionista, but at least she's starting to match the colours more appropriately now. We did have some terrible combinations though.

Brangelina · 06/03/2008 14:07

Sorry, no transport. Only in Milan, Monza doesn't have this service. What a pain.

francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2008 14:11

Sounds like a good idea to try with the bike Brangelina. I take the children by bus and it is a bit of a pita, even if on paper it's just a very short trip. (sometimes we leave the flat at 9.35 and get to the asilo's doorstep at 8.55, it takes longer when the cirocnvallazione is all congested). Mind you, we could walk as it's only a 25 mins walk, but at the children's pace it could easily turn into an hour...
