Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
Abena · 18/02/2008 21:34

Franca thanks so much for your help. It is possible to do some things in crap Italian 9ie doctors appointments, shopping etc) but this asilo nido thing is a bit beyond me. I would appreciate any help. I just want to know what the procedure is excatly and I have looked on the comune di Milano website but I am not getting the exact picture.
The other complication is that we want to move to Cernusco sul naviglio most probably or somewhere not so central Milan (in August) but do you need to have an exact address to sign up? Sorry to be so dumb. A translation would be very helpful if you have the time. Thanks so much!!
By the way what is a certificazione ISee?
I looked on Metro map and you are not so far away BUT with a double buggy, again!!!??
Thanks

Abena · 18/02/2008 21:34

Why twice??

francagoestohollywood · 18/02/2008 21:47

Yes, I'm pretty sure you need an exact address to sign up (you need one to register with a scuola materna), because you'll get more points by choosing the nido which is closest to where you live. so if you live x and choose a nido which is 10 km away while you have one which is only 500 metres away you won't get any place. The "circolare" with the details on how to sign up for the nidi d'infanzia hasn't been published yet (in the comune di milano website), but I will translate it for you.
The certificazione isee is a document which classifies your financial "status" (because the nido comunale gives priority to low income families and it's means tested, therefore you pay more if you have a higher income), you need your rent contract, your estratto conto and possibly your dh's pay thingy (another exhausting italian bureaucracy emoticon).
I don't know how it works if you are offered a place in a nido nr your home and then you move.
Anyway, don't worry I can meet you wherever is easiest for you, have you got my email?

Brangelina · 19/02/2008 00:16

Abena, I used to know this woman who would find you an English speaking babysitter for a few days or hours, I even worked for her occasionally when I was poor. I'll try and see if I can find her details. She might still be doing it, even though it was ages ago. For all the rest Franca is the best person to help you as she's fresh from all the bureaucracy and I'm no longer milanese so completely out of touch.

Lol at zecchino d'oro, we have the entire repertoire here, downloaded fron youtube (I think DP is secretly a fan). DD's favourite is 44 gatti, whereas DP's is Il gatto puzzolone (can you see a theme here?). There's even a song by Cristina d'Avena when she was about 5, poverina.

Well done Franca with internet at last. Did you get the DTs from no mumsnet? Have you got sky yet or are you still recovering from the internet allacciamento saga?

Abena · 19/02/2008 07:18

Franca and Brangelina you guys are being s helpful! I am nervous today as suddenly I have a job interview and realise that I have forgotten how to do that! Franca that makes the asilo nodo thing sound much clearer and at least I am not late for applying. No I dont have your email. Brangelina that babysitter contact would be great even its a longshot.
Thanks so much for the help. And where is that Mandybagpuss who wanted toddler playmates for her twins!! I keep checking but she has not responded. Oh well.

Rosa · 19/02/2008 12:28

Well its cold here again but a lovely day . Its my wedding anniversary and the weather was the same then. We had snow 2 days afterwards so will be interetsting to see if that happens here!
Abena if you do a thread search every once in a while for Mandybagpuss you might find her on other threads and then hijack them !!
What is the interview for ( being nosy here !!!)Sorry I am a bit far away to offer to help but I hope you find somebody to look after them for you.

Brangelina · 19/02/2008 12:42

Abena - I can't find that Penny woman's phone number (aaargh!) but I did find a website with ads for babysitters here. Most want an ongoing position but a few are willing to just do a few hours. They're all Italian though, do your twins speak/understand Italian? If you need an English speaker you could try here but there's not much going at the moment.

Alternatively, do you not know any other staff mums who might be able to point you in the right direction? Maybe your DH could ask around his colleagues if they know/have babysitters or au pairs that might be able to do a couple of hours? That might be preferable to getting a stranger off internet. In the meantime I'll keep trawling through my house for Penny's number, although I am rather messy and have moved a couple of times since I knew her.

francagoestohollywood · 19/02/2008 12:43

Buon anniversario Rosa!! !
Abena I will CAT you.
A job interview, it's been ages for me as well...

where are hhell and pippi?

Brangelina · 19/02/2008 12:43

Happy anniversary Rosa! How many years is it?

Brangelina · 19/02/2008 13:09

Have you seen that there's now a German corner? Copycats.

Rosa · 19/02/2008 14:02

Its been 3 now but we have been together for 10 . If I get my act together I will cook something nice tonight but I must get my act together like now !!!
Pippi was off to Perugia I think but not sure when .

OP posts:
gio71 · 19/02/2008 14:46

Happy anniversary Rosa, let us know what you cook.
Good luck with the interview Abena! What's it for?

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/02/2008 18:07

pippi is a few hours away to go off to pg and cannot wait. The house is an absolute building site and dd and I are so stressed. There's dust everywhere, open floorboards, boxes all over the place (again! aaarghh!) and still things to pack up and put in the garage before plumber comes tomorrow to rip everything apart. I feel so sorry for dh who's going to stay behing without central heating or hot water for 10 days .

the only consolation is that is going to be nice in the end... although tbh I cannot quite believe it yet.

happy anniversary rosa... hope you enjoyed it !

franca very nice to have you back!

hhell, you ok??

francagoestohollywood · 19/02/2008 18:43

Pippi!! Have a lovely time in Pg, will you send us pictures of your renovated house? How exciting! Which tiles did you choose at the end?

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/02/2008 21:00

these for one bathroom and the same but sand for the other. they are really big tiles so didn't need that many as bathroom are quite tiny unfortunately. put slate in the kitchen.

it nis so dusty I want to wear a michael jackson mask! Dd has been sleeping in the bed with us for the past two days as her room is a war zone and there has been no problem putting her to bed: no one thousand of 'acqua please' 'wee wee please' 'poo poo please' !!!!

francagoestohollywood · 19/02/2008 21:07

I like them!

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/02/2008 21:11

oh I so hope it's going to look as I have pictured it in my head. I have never done any design before so it might all go pear shaped. will see.

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/02/2008 21:13

it's noce to have you back 'live' !

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/02/2008 21:13

nice

francagoestohollywood · 19/02/2008 21:14

It's going to be fab pippi. Send us lots of pictures. Are you all packed for tomorrow? Are you going to go out?

francagoestohollywood · 19/02/2008 21:17

Yes, I'm happy to be back . I am feeling a bit "homesick' for exeter tonight. ds told me that when he thinks of his friend x in Exeter he feels very sad, because he misses him a lot ...

gio71 · 20/02/2008 12:11

Pippi I love your tiles, I am now home again. Franca how long did it take you to sort everything with fastweb in the end? I am dreading it when we do eventually move, I work from home and will be well and truly in trouble if can't have internet for weeks!
Also I have a question for those of you in the know, am still trawling the internet for somewhere to stay in Aug in the Sud Tirol, how many metres above sea level is the ideal? Want to feel like am in the mountains but don't want to be in the clouds , am clueless about things like this
DS has STILL got a runny bum! It's better (I think) than it was but still not right, it's got to be a week now. He seems ok in himself, how long would you leave it before you go back to pedatrician? I have put him back on la dieta today

Rosa · 20/02/2008 12:27

Getting worried about Hothell its been quiet for too long hope all is ok .
Franca glad to have you back and what a pain about the house when is Dh coming over for good ?

Pippi have fun in Perugia it is a bit warmer here now its been freezing .
Had a nice meal and diddn't manage to finish the bottle of wine ( just out of practice !!)

SONO qui ragazze! La nausea se n'e' andata, yippppie, but have been energy less, not even energy to switch on my old computer, watch telly, or do anything really, been a bit of a zombie, but at least the nausea is gone, yeahhhhh! In fact i spent so much time mumsnetting and watching telly feeling puky, that for a few days just seeing the telly and the computer brought the nausea back.

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2008 16:03

Hhell, glad to have you back and that you are feeling better! Have been thinking about you, as I'm reading a great book called "Il resto di niente" by Enzo Striano, set in Nables in the eighteenth century.

Gio, I'm curious too, what do you do at home ? At the end it took us nearly a month to get fastweb, but because at first we believed the flat had fibra ottica. Then we realized it hadn't, and we requested the adsl, but they magically created 2 different contracts and that was the big problem. then they rang on thurs, saying they'd come on Mon, which they did and as if by magic we were connected within an hour!
I wouldn't be too worried if he was well with himself and no temperature, I'd wait another few days before ringing the paediatrician (and give him lots of raw apple and banana. and rice). But I do realize I got "too English" , some of my Italian friends talk to their pediatra on nearly a daily basis .
I think that anywhere from 900 to 1500 metres is fine...

Rosa, ciao bella! happy you had a lovely celebration.
I've realized that I hadn't been clear about all our movements. Dh got back from the UK (though he is probably going in the spring as he has experiments) on the 23 rd of January... he is starting teaching in 10 days, and is planning to take ds back to the mountains !
