Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
hotHELL · 28/01/2008 12:46

ghost?
yep, felt crap with ds as well, but only for a few weeks, so luckily this will go, i am only 6 weeks so ages to go, luckily i can sleep during the day.
poor pippi, it is awful isn't it, spent the day yesterday thinking what a terrible mistake i have made.

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2008 13:15

hhell you haven't. and it'll all be clear to you in momnets like this: DD yesterday stopped me on the street to 'ask' DD2 if she was okay and to tell her we were going to eat soon and to watch cappucetto rosso afterwards. when we went in the car she told us we should go and buy a car seat for her, a bed and loads of toys. she hugs my belly evry day. although I am not expecting her to be always this happy the image of them playing together or DD1 cuddling DD2 makes me go on.

forza e coraggio... those are the worse days.

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2008 13:16

how's DP in all this?

I'm going to tidy up and then to have a nap... really I am so knackered I want to cry!

gio71 · 28/01/2008 17:18

Do your local supermarkets have any outfits in Brangelina? Out local GS has a few in. Otherwise I have no idea , I am the least creative person ever! Ah I love carnival though. Went for the afternoon in Villa Borghese yesterday with DS the Cowboy. Was so bloody cold he had about 5 layers under his cowboy shirt so looked obese which detracted from the cuteness a bit!
Am in process of trying to sort some form of childcare at the moment for ds and am getting really stressed. I work from home, I do parttime flexible hours which has worked til now but its now becoming near impossible as he is sleeping less/needing more attention. So am looking to get a babysitter or something to take him for a walk a few mornings a week for a few hours and I'm really nervous! I think it's just because I have never had to leave him with anyone bar family til now and as we live in Italy away from my family and dp's family is tiny it's hardly happened. Am going into panic mode, how do I know if the person is una brava persona, what about references etc etc. I feel PATHETIC, everyone else I know has had their dc's in nursery or with a childminder with no problems since they were tiny.
Sorry just rambling on randomly

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2008 17:29

gio believe me you are not pathetic at all. the fact that others have done it earlier does not mean it was done without the same worries. I had to find a childminder for dd when she was 11months. I was desperate for a break but it was nerve wrecking (sp) as all I had to judge was ofsted report and my instinct, not much when it's the first time you do it - tbh I didn't even know what to ask. even when I changed childminder (when she was about 2) I cried and cried with worry and stress. I am not going to tell you about babysitters...
If it wasn't that I have no choice as no family about and I really need some space to survive I'd probably chickened out.

Your instinct will tell you a lot; I'd always have DS with you when you meet for the first time as that gives you an idea on how the person handles him and how he feels. make a list of what you absolutely want or don't want and ask examples of how they'd deal with certain behaviours etc.

gotta go dd is back, will come back later.

Brangelina · 28/01/2008 19:02

Yes, go with instinct. Also, if you decide on a babysitter, spend about 2 weeks with her alongside you and gradually switch over. You'll soon see after a couple of days whether you can leave him. With the nursery same thing, we only went to see 2 as were desperate and it was late in the year, but the first one I saw gave me a really good feeling, I could just imagine DD playing there. I had no choice either as no family here and there was no way any of the dodgy inlaws were coming near her unsupervised (yes, that bad).

about this stupid costume. It looks like I'll have to go and buy one from Upim or somewhere. That requires organisation and time, neither of which I have at the mo. Ghost sounds a good idea, only the only sheets I can sacrifice are the crappy flowery ones DP's ex offloaded onto us, not quite right somehow. I do have a Morticia wig I bought a few years ago, I wonder if it will fit DD...

hotHELL · 28/01/2008 19:26

morticia sounds great, basically a withch, and make her some sort of dress with the flowery sheet.
gio71 re: childcare, beside what the others said, I would ask potential babysitter how she would deal with potential issues. But I think at the end of the day you want somebody who is naturally loving towards kids and has common sense, and bright enough.

mandybagpuss · 28/01/2008 22:17

Hello ladies,Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread. I am a mum of twin boys aged 2, I am English but now live in Milan,i've been here for 3 years which has gone very quickly, i'm ashamed to say my Italian is quite rubbish as I have mostly been stuck in the hospital pregnant and then full time mothering since I got here.Well thats my excuse anyway.
Anyway just to say hello. Amanda x

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/01/2008 08:51

mandy hello, welcome! I'm sure franca and brangelina will be here soon, they're in milan!

I've got the flu...

hotHELL · 29/01/2008 11:29

Yep, Mandy franca and bran will be keen to say hello to you....
Poor you pippi, it is endless....I on the other hand feel less tired today, and may only need one nap, or maybe even no nap.

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/01/2008 11:50

wow you do nap for england. I never nap that much. even on the first trimester I musdt have done it a handful of times (mind you I was working at the times). no wonder why I am often hysterical with DH !

I might go to see exhib tomorrow or thursday - will let you know. please do join us even briefly if fit enough. I feel as big as a whale!

frnaca are you dc settled? do they still ask for england?

Brangelina · 29/01/2008 13:24

Goodness me, I thought I was dormigliona . I love naps. I must admit that when I work from home, after I've despatched DD off to nursery with DP I sometimes go back to bed for an hour or so until it's office time in the UK. I can't get away with it too often as there's usually too much to do, but it's bliss when I can.

Hi Mandy, I already replied yesterday on your other thread. Got to dash now, bl*°^dy fornitore has called out of the blue, is in Milan oggi and wants to meet so have to rush to the other side of town. Now where is that train timetable....

hotHELL · 29/01/2008 19:16

Well, I had two naps after all, cannot stay awake, beginning to think there is something terribly weird about this pregnancy. Maybe twins? Pippi i doubt i will be full of energy on Thu, will let you know anyway.
I guess Franca is trapped in her flat without internet....poveraccia!

gio71 · 29/01/2008 19:32

I was the same in my first trimester, the tiredness is indescribable. Defintely got better in the second altho was pretty much knackered all the way through!
Feeling a bit better re childcare, I think you're right, will go a lot on instinct. And then I think the first week or so I'll get her to spend time with ds here with me working so at least I can see how they are together.
Hi Mandy

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/01/2008 08:11

I thought I must have twins too, to justify my bloated massive belly at 7 weeks and the tiredness. Now DD2 moves like a firework in there.
I am going today I think hhell, l'll let you know how it is later on - DD wants to go on the train bless.

franca DD has discovered peppa pig (or 'peppa peg' like she pronounce it - maybe after 12 years I'll learn to speak proper english from my mini daughters!) so i bought her a dvd and she's hooked.

Could you tell me what tiles have you got in your bathrooms and whether you like it or not. I have got no idea what to do with one of ours.

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/01/2008 08:12

gio if you keep them there with you you'll def see if it's working out. good luck.

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2008 11:57

ciao!!! still no internet at the franca's, so today have popped at my parents' to check what's been going on.
Dh arrived on saturday afternoon after driving across France and is now nursing a sore throat and a cold. Useless... .
Pippi, the dc keep asking about England, say they miss it and that they like it better there , despite seeming to have quite a good time here, they have already been invited to two parties by children of theur new nursery and we spent lots of time with friends and their dc during the weekend. Strangely enough they totally refuse to spek to me in english...
Rosa ciao!!!
Gio, it is always difficult to choose child care and the first time you leave them is heartbreaking. Personally I'd go for asilo nido, I don't know what's it like in Roma, but the average is pretty good in milan, and the staff is well trained. They also offer a long time for inserimento, sometimes even 3 weeks!
Ciao mandy, would you like to meet up?

Brangelina · 30/01/2008 11:58

Pippi, for many years I used to pronouce "front" just like my mother, with an Italian o sound, plus many more I can no longer remember. DD loves Peppa Pig too and will watch it for hours. I bought a Cbeebies DVD the last time I was over and she's discovered Charlie and Lola and Fimbles too.

Hot, can you imagine twins! I used to love the idea of twins (you know, 2 bambini in un solo colpo) but that was before I had DD. With two like her I'd probably never have managed to go to the toilet at all and have died from kidney failure as a result. However, with 2 like my friend's dormiglione ds I possibly could have coped. That boy only ever woke up to feed in the first 6 months. I was so .

Poor Franca with no internet. Also because the TV is particularly dire atm, lots of football for some reason which generally replaces the only thing that was worth watching in the first place. I've been reduced to watching my DVD boxed sets in lingua originale and DP has been driven to buying more capi firmati on ebay, which I end up having to wear as he frequently gets the sizes wrong.

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2008 12:21

I just have another half an hour and then I'm going home . those effing fastweb. how do you get libero? do I need to ring telecom?

Brangelina · 30/01/2008 12:39

No, just ring 155. There's no canone to pay, so no need to call telecom.

Check the deals though, I think there's one at the moment with Tele2 and another with Tiscali, both of which are internet + phone and are quite cheap. I pay about 40 euros a month of mine which was cheap at the time but is now quite a lot. I'm thinking of changing or seeing if they'll do me a better deal as I'm sure there's one going now.

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2008 12:44

thanks, will have a look. we need phone and internet

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/01/2008 18:55

DD and I had a lovely cosmopolitan day. First we went to see DD's nursery (preschool) for next year and it's LOVELY!!! I wish I was a kid myself. The outdoor bits it's everything a child would dream of: castle, playhouse, cars, campana, swings, slides... I'm so happy!!!!!!
Then we went on Underground Ernie to the west end for a 'pizza and icccream' and then to that exhib which I really liked (and so did DD she kept saying 'mamma look baby A. inside pancia di mamma!!'). I left home at 9 and was back NOW! exhausted but nice. quite a change from pg boring life!

Although DD speaks less english and a lot of italian which she has learnt from me my italian friends are convincd that she's got an english accent when shespeaks italian. how can that be? she should speak perugino surely?!

hhell is narcoleptic!!

hotHELL · 30/01/2008 19:12

Skipped the pm nap today, and feeling it now, will i make it for loc loc and k. mccloud?
i think ds has a bit of an english accent when he speaks italian, weird.
Good you found a good nursery, will she start in the autumn and go all day?
I am craving all sort of really nice food. All I want to do is eat and sleeepppp.
I guess your kids franca will start missing england now that you have a routine, a home, dh back, etc...

Rosa · 31/01/2008 10:03

Quick hello from the windy land of Gran Canaria ..Still here eating for England and all ok ...Gotta dash...

OP posts:
Brangelina · 31/01/2008 13:07

Haven't you blown away yet Rosa? Have you taken a dip in the sea? Is it freezing? You've been there for ages, or so it seems, when are you back? (only because I fancy a nice suntan inducing holiday at the moment).

Pippi, I think DD has an Italian accent when she speaks English, with new words particularly she uses Italian vowel sounds but it's settling down a bit now. Your DD probably hasn't got an accent, it's probably other people hearing things because they expect it. Like, for instance, when I go abroad with DP and meet other English people they're always complementing me on how well I speak English and how faint an accent I have because they can't get their heads round the fact that I might be English too, despite speaking another language fluently with DP, IYSWIM. Also the fact I have dark hair and do tan doesn't seem to help with their preconceptions. Weird.

Franca, your DC are probably just missing their friends and school and usual routine. they will adjust, it's early days yet. Give them a couple of months and they'll be fine, it always took me at least that to get accustomed to a new place when I was small.
