OK, but I'm rubbish at science questions:

  1. Some kind of teeth (eye teeth)/; 2. ozone; 3. time? I always thought it was energy/time so guessing; 4. Tin; 5. jupiter? 6; polygraph; 7. don't know; 8. can't remember, think it might be fleming; 9. tempted to say ozone layer but think this might be a trick. Stratosphere? 10; blueberries (complete guess)
handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:21

Ah well thanks for having a go legalien, I can't tell you how you did just yet, but it was okay you know!

I really should be doing some work, but

1)What is another name for the Cuspids? Canine teeth

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3? ozone (btw o2 is dioxide I think, oxygen is just O)

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what? energy?

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn? Tin

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system? Saturn I think

6)What is the proper name for a ?Lie Detector?? polygraph

7)What disease of cattle, does BSE stand for Bovine spongiform encephalitis (however it's spelt)

8)Who is credited with inventing penicillin Alexander Fleming, though didn't he discover it?

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers stratoshphere, mesosphere and troposphere

  2. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries? Blackberries?

artichokes · 04/12/2007 14:22

These are hard. I may embarrass myself but here it goes?

  1. Teeth
  2. Hmmmm, no idea, 03 was the year I saw my first eclipse but I guess that is not the answer
  3. Time
  4. Tin
  5. Saturn
  6. Polygraph
  7. hmmm, Bovine Spongy-something Encepholitis?
  8. Alexander Flemming
  9. I'll go gor one - The stratosphere (I know the others are Xospheres, where X stands for a word I cannot remember).
10. Blueberries
handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:23

Nah, you don't want to worry about getting on with your work!

OP posts:
TenLordsaLapin · 04/12/2007 14:23
  1. The eye teeth/canines?
  2. A phone company
  3. velocity?
  4. Sodium
  5. Venus
  6. Your mother
  7. Mad Cow Disease (Bovine Spongiform Encephalitus?)
  8. Fleming
  9. Stratosphere, troposphere, ionosphere
10. blackberries

I reckon I might have got ONE right!

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:25

You might have done better than 1 Lapin y'know!

OP posts:
pooka · 04/12/2007 14:28
  1. pre molars
  2. force?
  3. Tin? Selenium?
  4. Earth
  5. Polygraph
  6. Bovinespongiformencephalitis
  7. Jenner
  8. Heavy side layer, Ozone Layer,
  9. blueberries

God, I'm getting more stupid the older I get. Used to be a whizz at general knowledge and look at me now!

artichokes · 04/12/2007 14:30

What about me . Ignoring my terrible spelling, can you tell me if I should bury my head in shame?

kittylouise · 04/12/2007 14:30

Right, haven't looked at any of the others.

  1. Haven't a clue (dubious start)
  2. Ozone
  3. Power = work/time (???? doubtful!)
  4. Sn = tin
  5. Saturn
  6. Polygraph
  7. Bovine Spongiform Encophopaly (last word very bizarre spelling)
  8. Alexander Fleming
  9. Statosphere, Ionosphere, Toposhpere (not necessarily in that order!)
10. Raspberries (complete wild guess).

I would say 6 or 7 out of 10.

(ooh, I enjoyed that!!)

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:32

Sorry artichokes - went downstairs to fix an apple juice for neglected ds. You did fine. I will post answers after a few more responses.

Currently I think I am going to stick with this question set because most of you have been okay with it (so it is challenging but not too hard)

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:34

As did pooka and kittylouise (do okay that is...)

OP posts:
TenLordsaLapin · 04/12/2007 14:35

I am really enjoying these, HMC, you might have to become MN's resident quiz master! Monthly quizzes!

SquonkaClaus · 04/12/2007 14:37
  1. Tin
  2. Uranus
  3. Polygraph
  4. Mad Cow Disease - Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis or something
  5. Alexander Fleming

that's it, not even going to guess at the others

SquonkaClaus · 04/12/2007 14:38

(did you do art & lit yesterday? I missed it and wanna have a go )

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 14:38

Thanks Lapin .I'm glad this is a two way street and people are getting something out of it (as much as I am gaining from all the feedback)

...but I am afraid I will have to graciously decline the kind offer of MN quiz master. It takes a surprising amount of time you know to research all these questions.(I will look at quiz organisers with new respect now). Poor lo's and dh have been woefully neglected yesterday and today!
