the answer to Q9 :troposphere,stratosphere, mesosphere,thermosphere,exosphere.

If this is too hard I could ask people to name 3 types of cloud?

OP posts:
EmsMum · 04/12/2007 14:46
  1. canine teeth
  2. ozone (O2 is referred to as just oxygen or an oxygen molecule by chemists, not dioxide a lone oxygen would just be an oxygen atom)
  3. power =work/time
  4. Sn is tin (from latin stannum, people sometimes referred to the salts of tin as eg stannous chloride)
  5. saturn
  6. polygraph
  7. bovine spongiform encephalophagy (approx)
  8. Alexander Fleming ; Florey also gets some of the credit nowadays.
  9. uh...stratosphere, ionosphere, mesosphere.
  10. Um. I suspect that blueberries contain the most usable energy when eaten cos the pips in the others are indigestible. If the question had been which contain the most energy (ie burn them in a calorimeter) then the woodier blackberry might win. . Blueberries.

10/10 emsmum!

I did post that before I'd read he answers.

Clouds - cumulus, cirrus, nimbus.
Cumulonimbus

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 04/12/2007 14:50

Oooh this was hard, and I didn't look.

1)What is another name for the Cuspids?
Well you have cuspid valves in your heart, so I'll go for heart valves

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3?
hmmmm, it isn't good for you whatever it is.

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what?
oh yes, the old physics A-level really coming into play here......energy maybe???

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn?
er, tin

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system?
Only the good lord knows. Let's go for neptune

6)What is the proper name for a ?Lie Detector??
Polygraph

7)What disease of cattle, does BSE stand for
Bovine Spongyform Encephalopathy. Do I get extra points as it is caused by prions?

8)Who is credited with inventing penicillin
Fleming

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers
    er er
    Stratosphere and two others

  2. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries?
    Oh I'll go for blueberries.

and thank you!

EmsMum · 04/12/2007 14:51

I do have a chemistry degree ... wouldn't have known 2 or 5 before I had DD though!

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 14:53

1)What is another name for the Cuspids? MILKY WAY?

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3? PASS

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what? ENERGY?

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn? PASS

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system? SATURN

6)What is the proper name for a ?Lie Detector?? POLYGRAPH

7)What disease of cattle, does BSE stand for BOVINE SPOINGIFORM ENCEPHALOPOTHY.....?????

8)Who is credited with inventing penicillin FLEMING

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers STRATOSPHERE - ER - THAT'S IT

  2. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries? BLUEBERRIES

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 14:53

ROFL at Milky Way

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 04/12/2007 14:55

ahem, I think I need some points for my cuspid heart valves

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 14:55

Well I got 5 and a bit right! (And I nearly spelled encephalopathy right too, I'll award myself an extra point for that)

SquonkaClaus · 04/12/2007 14:55

WW - were you thinking Milky Way or milky way?

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 14:58

Well as it turns out to be teeth I'd better say the second one, it's closer!

SquonkaClaus · 04/12/2007 14:59
Grin
TwoRustyDoves · 04/12/2007 15:06

Haven't looked at any answers
1)What is another name for the Cuspids? teeth

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3? methane

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what? ?????

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn? Sodium

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system? Saturn

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 15:53

very valid point slubbers. There are indeed cuspid heart valves as well as cuspid teeth. I will leave the question in but will give a point for either anwer.

Am deffo going to substitute the earth's atmosphere question with types of cloud instead. I think that's more gettable.

I love quizzes. Was on the school inter-house quiz team when was 14 (nerd emoticon).

legalalien · 04/12/2007 17:06

oh - always transpose jupiter and saturn, must be some form of planetary dyslexia.

I think clouds would be better. or prehistoric periods of time.

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 17:32

The planets are easy if you've learned the My Very Easy Method (although I do struggle with Mars and Mercury - I always assume Mars is hotter because it's red):

My.........Mercury
Very.......Venus
Easy.......Earth
Method.....Mars
Just.......Jupiter
Set........Saturn
Up.........Uranus
Nine.......Neptune
Pla nets....Pluto

AMerryScot · 04/12/2007 17:36
  1. Canines
  2. Ozone
  3. time
  4. tin
  5. Saturn
  6. polygraph
  7. bovine spongiform encephalitis
  8. Sir Alexander Fleming (he discovered it, not invented, btw)
  9. stratosphere, mesosphere, troposphere
  10. I'd guess blueberries
handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 17:40

Ok 'discovered'!

OP posts:
Blandmum · 04/12/2007 17:42

8 will be Alexanfer Fleming, but most of the work was done by Flory and Chain (if you want the smart arse answer)

And I'm with the merry scot for all of them

AMerryScot · 04/12/2007 17:44

I think they are a bit easy for a pub quiz, tbh.

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:45

FM!

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 17:46

I hope that was meant to be a , AMS!!!

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 17:47
