Same rules:

Take 5 minutes
You may confer if you have company
No googling

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3?

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what?

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn?

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system?

6)What is the proper name for a ?Lie Detector??

7)What disease of cattle, does BSE stand for

8)Who is credited with inventing penicillin

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers

  2. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries?

and thank you!

You do? Well we are a bit inbred around here

I dunno, I was advised that they were a bit too hard yesterday

I definitely have some harder rounds - my General Knowledge round is regarded to be a bit of a bitch, as is the Current Affairs round. And you should see 'Sports' - don't know if I dare post it!

OP posts:
bossykate · 04/12/2007 17:48

oh ok - but i don't feel very confident!

1)What is another name for the Cuspids? Teeth?

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3? Ozone?

3)In the physics formula, power is defined as work divided by what? Energy?

4)What chemical is represented by the symbol Sn? Selenium?

5)What is the 6th planet from the sun in our solar system? Saturn

6)What is the proper name for a ?Lie Detector?? Polygraph

7)What disease of cattle, does BSE stand for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy

8)Who is credited with inventing penicillin Alexander Fleming

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers Stratosphere, Ionosphere, ?

  2. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries? Blackberries?

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 17:49

Yes maybe you are just really good at science AMS but too modest and self effacing to realise this?

OP posts:
throckenholt · 04/12/2007 17:53

)What is another name for the Cuspids?

canines

2)If oxygen is O2, what is O3?

  1. Name 3 of the world?s atmospheric layers

stratosphere mesosphere ionosphere

  1. Which of these foods, when eaten in the same quantities, contains the most kilocalories of energy: blackberries, blueberries or raspberries?

raspberries

AMerryScot · 04/12/2007 17:55

Well, science is my area, but I think those questions are very easy compared to what you get in sports and entertainment

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 17:57

Ah, as Chris Evans would say : "It's only easy if you know the answer"

OP posts:
Blandmum · 04/12/2007 17:59

Would you like some more questions?

Niecie · 04/12/2007 18:02
  1. teeth (canines)
  2. ozone
  3. energy
  4. tin
  5. venus (?)
  6. ?
  7. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy
  8. Fleming
  9. ozone, stratosphere, ?
10. raspberries

That wasn't as hard as the other two rounds I don't think. Doesn't mean I got any more right though.

bossykate · 04/12/2007 18:04

so what are the answers?

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 04/12/2007 18:08

ahem, ahem. not wanting to be a scientific pedant and all but it is Encephalopathy not encephalitis (which would be inflammation of the brain).

BSE literally means cow holey brain disease.

And why hasn't my heart valve/cuspid point been duly noted, huh?????

Blandmum · 04/12/2007 18:13

Ok What is next in line

Sedimentary, metamorphic, ................
Vein, Venule.....................
Fore brain, mid brain, ...............
Receptor, sensory neurone, relay neurone, .................
Trachea, Bronchus, .................
Right atrium, Right ventricle, ..................

mollymawk · 04/12/2007 18:18

martianbishop, yours are way too hard
Igneous?
Dunno the rest [ignorant emoticon]

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 04/12/2007 18:27

oh mb can I have a go at yours?

Sedimentary, metamorphic, ................no idea, this sounds rock-ish

Vein, Venule, capillary vein
Fore brain, mid brain, hind brain
Receptor, sensory neurone, relay neurone, motor neurone
Trachea, Bronchus, bronchiole
Right atrium, Right ventricle, pulmonary artery

how'd I do?

CatIsSleepy · 04/12/2007 18:36

mb's first q

Sedimentary, metamorphic, ................igneous?

then what slubbers said for the rest

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 04/12/2007 18:38

what's the horrid rock question doing in front of all those nice juicy, re ignite A-level biology brain ones then?

AMerryScot · 04/12/2007 18:39

I think we need some questions on SI base units.

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 19:49

Slubbers, see hmc's post at 15.53 about your cuspids

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 19:50

THIS IS A PUB QUIZ, NOT A SCIENCE A LEVEL!!!!!

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 19:51

And AMS, you do know you got the BSE answer wrong?

handlemecarefully · 04/12/2007 20:25

Ok:

  • MartianBishop - your questions are very impossible for us mere mortals challenging
  • Slubber - your point was duly noted and fully taken on board, with thanks (as I am now prepared if this issue comes up) *Bossykate - answers are as per my post as at 14.43ish
OP posts:
throckenholt · 05/12/2007 07:47

I think Martianbishop's are tending towards BIOLOGY A level (even human biology come to that) rather than science - I think the sedimentary bit was just to throw us off the track a bit (igneous is the other one by the way).

I don't do biology - gave that up early because I hated the teacher . Can we have some I can do - that means no physics and no biology !

Blandmum · 05/12/2007 17:19

Te Five Kingdoms of living things are, Animals, Plants, protoctista, Bacteria and what other group?

What type of living things make up all 'producers' in food chains?

All human cells have a nucleus, True or false?

What are the largesrt and smallest cell in the human body?

Carbon Dioxide, Methane and ozone....which is the odd one out and why?

Monkeytrousers · 05/12/2007 18:44

1 fungus

2 plants

3 erm, I think they do..?

4 Largest is the female egg, smallest is the male sperm

5 ?

mollymawk · 05/12/2007 21:46

Hang on, what are the answers to the first lot? Or did Slubbers get them all right?
My attempt:

  1. When I was at school there were only 3 kingdoms. Has there been lots of evolution going on at top speed since then?
  2. Farmers.
  3. False. Maybe red blood cells don't?
  4. Egg and sperm?
  5. Ozone is not a greenhouse gas?
SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 05/12/2007 23:25
  1. fungi
  2. plants (not sure hate plants )
  3. False - red blood cells are anuclear
  4. Definately egg, probably sperm
  5. Could be ozone - it is not a compound; Could be Methane as it doesn't contain an oxygen molecule; there's probably a ligitimate reason for it being methane too...
