Hi all, back again

OP posts:
ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 24/12/2007 11:42

midlands aswell but west midlands not east midlands.

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 24/12/2007 11:42

btw do you work? i'm not sure it will even be possible atm cos i heard castings come up very short notice.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 24/12/2007 12:42

Castings are very last minute, usually you hear the day before. Confirmation of jobs are also last minute.

mum2twosantas · 28/12/2007 10:50

yes, as goingfor3 says, castings are usually last minute!
no, i dont work (during the days) but then, weve not had any castings (london agency) at all - complete waste of space lol
i know there r mums that work and manage it, but i guess it depends how long it takes u to travel etc....
i think my new yrs resolution is giving up the modelling, as ds2 clearly isnt what ppl want, so no point in me stressin over it, i love him, and weve got a big pile of screenshots from websites hes been on, so at least i can embarass him when hes 18 lol

LoveMyGirls · 30/12/2007 11:45

Hi, wondering if you ladies could help me out a bit too?

My dd1 is 8 and gorgeous I took her to a makeover and photo shoot yesterday and they told me she has potential (yes i know they were trying to flog me their expensive photos) but I do think she is gorgeous and people stop me in the street to say how pretty she is and how big her eyes are etc anyway she really enjoyed it, she has mentioned wanting to be a model in the past so not just a whim.
So my questions are....

How do I get her started?
I live in the midlands would I have to travel to london for her to be successful?
Can anyone reccomend any agencies in the midlands?
How much does it cost?
What do they provide?
How much time would it take up?
Dd2 is gorgeous too but is only 2 would I be able to get her into it too or is it bnest to wait until she is old enough to say she wants to do it?

I have heard you should never pay for your child to have a portfolio and good agencys will create one for you, is this right?

Any tips on what to avoid?
I'm going to put a profile on my mn so I can put some pics of dd on there so you can tell me honestly what you think?

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 30/12/2007 11:48

there are plenty of baby and toddler models - no need to wait, but 18 months - 3 is a typically quiet time cos it is a very competetive age group and also cos of toddler tantrums etc people prefer not to work with toddlers i think.

LoveMyGirls · 30/12/2007 11:52

My toddler is very well behaved compared to others i've seen, i'm very obviously biased but i'm a childminder so I see alot of toddlers through the week .

I don't really mind dd2 waiting though i'm more interested in how to get dd1 started because she's so keen. (When i was younger I wanted to be an ice skater but my mum couldn't afford it so it didn't happen) I don't want to take dd1's dream away, i'd like to make it possible for her if i can.

LoveMyGirls · 30/12/2007 11:53

(I can't get a profile because MN is saying my lag in is incorrect - weird) Is there anywhere I can put a pic off dd1 so you can see what I mean?

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 30/12/2007 11:59

ummm you can go on picture trail and put it on there.

the thing is even if your toddler is well behaved all toddlers have off days and the clients looking on websites etc can't tell from a picture if yours is particularly well behaved or not.

LoveMyGirls · 30/12/2007 19:45

here are pics of both my girls a little outdated and neither pics are as stunning as the professional ones they have got but still they're nice pics imo.

Do you think either of them stand a chance? Does anyone know a good midlands agency? TIA

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 30/12/2007 22:34

i would say the more recent one of dd2 wouldn't be any good to send off to agencies because she is looking away from the camera. and you really do need to send as recent pictures as possible (no more than 2-3 months old for dd2, no more than 3-6 months old for dd1)

these are some tips i was given before sending of ds' application.

you should always send at least one head shot and one full body shot but if the agency asks for more do equal numbers of each type.

it is best if they wear solid colours - not prints or patterns and take the photos in a neutral background rather than one with any "noise"

natural smiles are best. say something funny or do something funny to get a really natural smile. You can always tickle them and then move away for a natural smile aswell.

lovemygirls - there is boss in manchester, dk in sheffield, absolute in liverpool, i saw at one fashion show i went to number one in birmingham yet never heard of them before or seen them at anything else, bizzy kids take on from all over, there is a list on albas website of a listed agencies and it also names bad agencies on the front page. you may get more work by using a london agency yet lots of the castings will be in london etc. good luck. there is a good booking called modelling adn acting for kids which is good to read before you start into modelling it tells you about how last minute castings are and having good child care etc for any siblings if you need to change arrangemenets at last minute to fit in a casting with the other child.

juliejinglebells · 01/01/2008 12:00

sorry should refraise the bad agencies bit i mean agencies not recommended by alba , their web address is www.albamodel.info

LoveMyGirls · 01/01/2008 18:04

Thanks for the info.

What would you say the average cost is for modelling? Do any of your children ever make any money?

juliejinglebells · 01/01/2008 23:33

lovemygirls - at first we didnt make much. my ds has made a nice amount yet he has had some higher paying jobs to the normal hourly rate. due to my distance we lose money on each casting as peak time train tickets can be a lot for us. when you look up agencies their website should say hourly rates etc and if the minimum booking is 2 hours etc to give you an idea. we have had some superb pictures out of it making it all worthwhile!

mysonsmummy · 02/01/2008 14:24

when you send photos to any agency they want run of the mill everyday ones. anyone can look stunning in professional photos.

dancerdeb · 03/01/2008 21:41

I would like to wish you all a Happy, Healthy and 'Jobby' New Year....
ALL THE BEST xxx

Love my girls- money made from modelling varies enormously and as mentioned travel to castings must be taken into account(and other things you inevitably buy when out on a casting, food+drink).
As a child minder you would have to have someone who could take all your children at very short notice, we often get a call at 5.00pm for a casting or job the next day which thwows out all plans for that day. Agencies will assume that you can just drop everything as that is how the industry works.
We are with an agency which does charge fees but we easily make back our money each year but of course an agency can not gaurentee work (my ds is 12 and we started when he was 10).
This all sounds a bit negative and I don't mean it that way my son has had a ball and we have lovely photos and DVD's and met some lovely new friends but the whole industry does seem to work from one day to the next with plans changing all the time.
anyway all the best
H

[really stupid question alert]
...what happens about school? do they always shoot around school hours.
My DS1 was in a tv prog and filming was for six days but it was across the summer and the two days it clashed with school we had to get the school and LEA to sign off.
How does that work.

..just curious for DD and DS1. on my mumsnet page although obviously not photos I could use to apply. DS1 is 14 and DD is 5. DD would love it but haven't asked DS
thanks

my ds didnt get a job till march last year and my dds first casting was mid feb

pagwatch · 05/01/2008 16:17

ok.
my question really was that stupid then.....

mygirlsmum · 05/01/2008 16:25

hi pagwatch i think most castings and shoots are during school hours and jobs require a license signed by your childs school and local council not that im an expert but when dd has had castings they have been during school hours
