I've got loads of things to do too, spesa, tyding up, laundry... might even try some ironing as a relaxation tecnique!

can I moan again at the NHS? The news the other day pushed parents everywhere but especially in barnet to have their kids have second MMR immunisation asap and not wait till 3y.o.! I called the GP and they know nothing about it and refuse to do it. UFFA!!!!

yes london is beautiful but a rip off at times. cannot wait for house to be done and buy furnitures. On sat DH and I found 6 lovely second hand chairs with wicker seats for 10 pounds each. you can get your bargains at times.

thanks for website. will keep it.

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 10:40

what news?mmr?
we have a fantastic second hand furniture shop here in Exeter.
ps: by the time I will have saved money to buy the chair, the cost will have doubled, so I can dream on...

They do not swab you for strep ..Its obligatory in Italy and on the state you pay the ticket usually about 2 weeks - 1 mth before parto am very that they dont do it. Mind you when I had Bld tests in Uk as was pg they did not want to test for the one carried by cats cant remember name.. I just did a hothell twist of the truth and said I was high risk !!!!

Glad you all had a fab time ....

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/11/2007 13:19

rosa you're right no toxoplasmosis either here. last time I made my GP do it as well. I'll try again this time.
think that, I am 18 weeks and have done NOTHING yet except first scan. no blood test whatsoever, no glycemic (sp?), no blood pressure NOTHING!. no combined test, can't do nuchal scan as it'll be too late etc.
Useless TBH. I am so but as there's nothing I can do about it I am just trying not to think about it.

anyway will prob do them in italy next week.

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 13:26

You are stressing very much Pippi, try to rest and relax and leave the stress to dh, he is not the one who is preggers after all. Spent my morning after the drudgery of the school run in a 2nd hand shop and bought a Virginia Wolf and a book about Henry James. Ahhhhh, the comfort of books.
Now I am going to make tagliatelle fatte in casa to feel like a proper Italian mama.
What is a Vitra chair Franca? The price is not toooo bad, if the chair is really nice.

Brangelina · 12/11/2007 13:36

Pippi, that is shocking. I got blood tests every month, tested for everything from toxoplasmosis to CMG and back. I also got an immediate referral for a CVS, they scanned me with no appt at 10 weeks and 2 weeks later I had the test. All this via the ginecologa at the consultorio. The only bummer was having to ring around myself to book the scans, but luckily there is a centralino nowadays that will search for a place in the whole of Milan.

Unlike 10 years ago when I had to take a whole morning off work just to queue up at the hospital to book an appointment.....

Brangelina · 12/11/2007 13:37

Oh, and the strep B is obbligatorio. My colleagues wife had to have one even though she was booked in for an elective CS.

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 13:37

It's a chair designed by Eames, I think and produced by Vitra. However, after having overdosed on consumismo yesterday, I'm feeling more sober now, and probably won't go for it. I have a horrible stiffneck today.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 13:43

here's the chair and much cheaper on the net!!!!!

OP posts:
ernest · 12/11/2007 13:52

where are you pippi? and where will you be having baby?

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 13:55

Ma Franca! E' una sedia di plastica, no? Dp just told me he wants a Mackintosh chair, not sure what it is. Let me google a bit.

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 13:58

Yes, seduta di plastica e gambe di legno. It'd be infact unreasonable of me to buy it. But I really love it. But I won't buy it, p[romise . what on earth is a mackintosh chair?

OP posts:
hotHELL · 12/11/2007 13:59

dp's dream chair, apparently. www.steelform.com/hill.html

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 14:01

For me it looks like one of those cheap plastic chairs.....on the other hand a Mackintosh chair.....

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 14:04

Blimey! it is very chic though. But you'd need one of those art deco flats in Manhattan, or something. Yes, there is the risk that the plastic chair might look cheap (though it's very pretty in pale blue), but I fancy a bit of aristo-squallido at the moemnt. But that's expensive. So, I swear ain't gonna buy it.

Afternoon ladies, just a quickie before the horrors get home from asilo !
Brangelina - how weird about pogues's !!! I'm still in touch with one of the irish ladies I hung out with. She lives in Monza happily married with 2 bubbas !! We were usually there on a sunday to watch the film. Oh and so right about the toilets !! No idea where rainbow was, just used to go with friends and never paid attention to where they driving too
off to make a potato and cheese pie for tea ! Very italian !!

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 14:13

Lol at aristo-squallido!

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 14:18

I think I went to Pogue mahones as well. Is that the one near piazza medaglie d'oro? But you are wrong re the toilets, the worst were the one of Bar della Crocetta

OP posts:
Rosa · 12/11/2007 14:59

sorry can't get enthusiastic about chairs but then again I don't know anything about them !!!
Potato and cheese pie yum ...DD or dh wouldn't eat that. Maybe I could get grandma to make one when in the UK.
Pippi get the gp to sort you out . You should have had at least 1 set of blood tests by now and what about amnio are you having it as surely that should be round now???

mammamic · 12/11/2007 16:38

Hi

I've joined the italy thread a few times....

just thought I'd give some input re Milan.

I'll start with the positives as i did like living there and dont' want to seem negative I lived quite close to Milan for a year or so and had clients there for around 4 years. all that has been said here is spot on.

The location is almost perfect. 2 airports, great motorway links, good train links, loads of places to visit that aren't too far away - the lakes, Venice, South of France, Switzerland, even Eastern Europe is very accessible from here. The shopping is not to be missed and does not have to be all about the haute couture designers - there's loads of great markets about. The night life is also good and more or less caters for all tastes. Plus you have the Football stadium - I'm not a footie person but went to the stadium just for the experience - it was worth it.

Now for the not so good. I've driven all over italy extensively but Milan is one of the worst. and trying to park is nigh on impossible.

I found it to be quite a 'cliquey' place and somewhat 'snobby'. The station is one of the scariest i've had to be around and there were lots of druggies outside. Night time in general can be quite scary and there's lots of open drug dealing and stuff. If you're used to a big city, then these types of things may not bother you (it didn't bother us much) but it is something to be aware of.

however, the most annoying thing was how dirty it was compared to most other places I've lived/visited in Italy. Not only rubbish wise but just the city air. Your fingernails and ears are constantly filthy and the stuff that used to come out of our noses (sorry to be so graphic!!!). We permanently felt as i we had a 'coating' of dirt all over us.

I really enjoyed and spent most of my free time and weekends there - it was 10 years ago though and i was living in Bergamo at the time which has to be the worst place to have to live in Italy...... (no offence to any Bergamaschi but from my point of view, it's sadly true!)

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 18:07

gosh yes, Stazione Centrale is dodgy.
I would have thought that Bergamo was a nice place to live, do you think it's too provincial mammamic?

Mackintosh chair absolutely beautiful and would def look stunning in your flay hothell. Do get it if you can!

not sure about the vitra chair. I am not too keen on plastic myself. If money where growing on trees in the pippi's garden I'd like this for Xmas!!

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 19:38

No, cannot afford the chair, one day hopefully.
Very interesting lamp indeed. Will look at it a bit more.

Ds is asleep, dp out and I am in heaven. Let's see what's on the telly then.

hotHELL · 12/11/2007 19:41

Actually Rosa I wanted to ask you if you know the difference between amnio and cvs, which one can be done the earliest, which one is the less safe for the pregnancy, etc, here in the UK you only get an amnio I think if you ask for one, whereas it seems in Italy all pregnant women get one.
