i like the woman deborah whatshername, in a bitch sort of way, wasnt't surprised to learn she doesn't have kids, doesn't strike as the maternal type, did you see the episode where one of the inventors made a comment about deborah having dyed (sp?) hair, and she very abruptly said that her hair was certainly not dyed. Bollocks, she must be at least 50, a 50 year old with blond hair?

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2007 12:51

yea that's exactly what I said to Dh at the time "my arse it's not dyed!!!" I think she's menopausal as she gets so uptight and takes everything so personal.
I've read somewhere that DB's hotel are very good for the price.

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2007 12:52

I want to watch bodies now.

Rosa · 12/12/2007 14:51

NOt seen bodies and I think I must have missed something. Pippi has your photobox stuff turned up mine has and am very impressed just not sure how am getting the posters back to Italy !!!

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 16:12

Pippi, Bodies is great, but def not recommendable to pg ladies .
Have I told you already that they are late delivering the kitchen unit (con fornello) that we've ordered for Milan? .
Today we had ds' s christmas play, it was looovely!

OP posts:
hotHELL · 12/12/2007 19:13

does it mean you will be without fornello when you move into the flat?

WHERE IS ELLBELL?????

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 20:33

I won't have a kitchen at least until after the 7th. it means that we'll stay at my parents'.

OP posts:
Rosa · 12/12/2007 20:55

COuld be worse...you could have no kitchen and have to eat out for 2 weeks !!!
How are the Dc coping with the impending move now that it is so near ??

hotHELL · 12/12/2007 21:01

Thinking of doing a traditional italian xmas dinner, have lots of friends over that night. What the hell do I cook that is easy and not toooo expensive?

Franca, does it mean your don't have to cook???? That would be heaven for me.

Rosa · 12/12/2007 21:05

Good question what is Italian traditional Xmas dinner as my mil /sil have fish on xmas eve and xmas day they don't really have any particular dishes apart from tortellini in brodo / pannetone o pandoro - which I like stuffing and doing interesting things with and dh thinks I am mad ( or its boring !!)

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 21:15

Gosh yes, I'm so fed up of cooking. thinking about food everyday, deciding what to do/buy/prepare.. and the children always want pasta. but tomorrow it's fish.
hmmm, I think that there isn't a traditional Italian dinner as such as it changes from region to region, family to family even!
we usually have a big christmas lunch (last year we were 40!!!). main course is bollito misto (which I love) with bagneutt (salsa verde). In the rich yummie brodo of the bollito we cook the tortellini (when I was a child my nonna would make the tortellini herself). among the antipasti my favourite are my mum's insalata russa and my aunt's pate' di fegatini di pollo. dh's aunt buys the best chantilly and pasticcini.
Rosa, I love panettone with mascarpone sauce. And a friend has taught me to cut horizontal slices of pandoro, scottarli sulla griglia and pour double cream......

OP posts:
hotHELL · 12/12/2007 21:19

tortellini fatti in casa,no?

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 21:29

no, not anymore. they are bought by the best salumiere though . My nonna li faceva in casa, but that was in the 70s and there were just 7 people for lunch.

something really easy to cook and quite wintery and usually yummie are lasagne con radicchio e pancetta.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 21:29

or you could make a roast...

OP posts:
hotHELL · 12/12/2007 21:50

no good salumiere here, sob.
what's radicchio in inglese?mi passi la ricetta please?
forse faccio i ravioli fatti in casa, basta che non mi si disintegrano nell'acqua....
i love nativity plays...did you cry by any chance?

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2007 21:59

40????? jesus!!!! sitting down? wow! that sounds fun! we used to have the same food exactly, plus smoked salmon crostini as well. I prefer roast as I ate the bollito. DH will do a rack of lamb roast. we'll be only 10 so quite easy, for DH. we have this agreement: I do the pressies and decs he does the food.

rosa they haven't turned up yet. I can't wait, especially because I have to send them to italy. I am relieved they look good. I must say the service was excellent I had to email them twice for spelling mistakes and they were great.

dh's out and dd went to bed like an angel even with bad cough. she's so sweet and good and still I lose my temper at times. how can I be such a cow??? I've got to relax more and take it easy.

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2007 22:02

good salumieri are very very hard to find in london, don't you think?
lasagne con radicchio ... yummie. ricetta pls.
how amny people hothell?

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 23:03

it's a mix of buffet and sitting down (sit down for the small children and the "oldest", like my dad, who is not old but feels 85... ).
radicchio is probably radicchio in English as well, a posh greengrocer will have it.
sautee onion and radicchio until tender.
in another pan fry the pezzi di pancetta.
make besciamella
boil the lasagne sheets.
combine besciamella radicchio and pancetta.
layers of lasagne - radicchio pancetta besciamella - parmigiano grattuggiato. last layer lots of parmiggiano. in the oven for perhaps half an hour, until as crispy as you like.
it's nice!
the play was lovely. I didn' cry which was weird, as I cried at the harvest festival. boh!

pippi I lost my temper tonight as well after days of satisfying parenting... they started to argue at whose turn was to go to bed with me... and kept crying and I shouted . I'm still feeling guilty.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2007 08:30

I am glad franca! not that you've lost your temper but that I am not the only one. I remember my dad saying, you're not born a parent you learn everyday - which at the time I really did not get it fully. Now I so so so do!!!! and I feel guilty all the time too.
DD is not well so will stay home with me today. outside is so frosty and white, lovely but I have nothing in the fridge and no car. your xmas sounds so much fun... can I come ?

hotHELL · 13/12/2007 11:55

only 6 people eating, if it were 40 i would have a breakdown, just the thought fills me with terror. i will try to find radicchio, though nothing posh around here.
making your lamb and olives stew tonight, pippi.
pippi, we might not be able to meet before christmas, maybe in between xmas and new year? not sure if it is too cold for kids to run around in coram fields.
i shouted at ds as well yesterday, just because he was dawdling in the street. and before i shouted because he didnt want to share his toys with his friend who had come home to play. infact he is doing this more and more, he gets jealous and possessive when he has little friends to play. he loves the idea of them coming round but then he is a bit controlling about his toys and i keep having to intervene. Worried that he might become worse. How do i deal with this? I get sick of intervening all the time, but at the same time i hate for his friend to be treated like shit.

francagoestohollywood · 13/12/2007 12:30

yes come over pippi, I'm sure in all that baccano no one will notice 3 more people .
Hothell, gosh I don't know. ds is now totally ok about sharing his toys (apart from sharing with dd, which is another story...) and dd is quite laid back as well. I would "soppesare" when to intervene. Sometimes they actually manage to "contrattare" and come to an agreement. But I do intervene when ds is being too bossy or controlling, in the vague hope to help them reaching an agreement. would they like spending some time drawing etc? Less things to argue about there, maybe... boh!

Rosa · 13/12/2007 14:07

I could not cope with Bolito misto at all !! I love being here dd went to baby gym today and so was soooo happy !!

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2007 15:52

hothell yesterday you were me. "I shouted because he didnt want to share his toys with his friend who had come home to play" as well. I then felt really bad and went to look it up. well apparently we shouldn't do it. like franca says you should often leave them to it unless they start being violent etc. Or if really they do not come to any sort of agreement you take the toy away and try with something else. apparently they act as they should and should not be penalised for it, not in front of their friend. and sides should not be taken. it made me feel quite shit to be honest. I want to be on her side but I also felt bad for the friend. on the other hand how horrible must be for a little kid to see her mum 'betray' him/her.

oh I am so glad you are all useless like me !!!!

no I don;t think we could make it before Xmas either. and yes coram field will be freezing. where else could we go that is hlaf way and possibly indoors?have you been to the xmas thing in hide park?

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2007 15:54

rosa yes I think there are far mosr things to do with young kids/toddlers in here than in italy. ti sento rinata!!
