Oops, I meant Bannatyne.

And I don't even drink whisky!

francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2007 22:53

what? I don't understand... see I'm to English now, I don't get Italian bureaucracies anymore ... . so that is a statale one. have you got any asilo comunale near you?
I must have asked a 1000 times but don't remember, it's janaury the month for iscrizioni isn't it?
aiuto! I'm not sure whether I can get english sky, as I can't put the dish on my balcony. grhsgjhkgskjg

francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2007 22:53

too english

But you can put the dish on your balcony, as long as it's not glaringly visible, like we do with our air conditioner (you must get ac btw, you'll suffocate next simmer without it). Is your balcony on the street or at the back? If at the back you can do what you like, if at the front drape ivy over it.

francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2007 23:04

No, I won't have a/c for now. The house is rented... but I think we'll borrow a pinguino from pil. also I'm a bit against a/c... I love it but I can see deserts spreading everytime I switch it on. the house has very thick walls... yes, who am I kidding? If still out of work I'll get back to england to visit friends for the summer

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/12/2007 23:08

Yes, January is for iscrizioni, from the 14th to the 26th. You can fare la domanda in una sola, so if you find out in March you don't have a place you have to scrabble around desperately. You can't even try the paritarie religious schools as back up because you still have to hand your (single) pass in to the school where you fai la domanda (mental block for English atm).

If you have nerves of steel or don't work then you can wait until August when the school lets the provveditorato know how many people are still on the waiting list, in the hope of getting more places assigned. However at that point there is no one left on the waiting list as everyone needs their child to be sorted, so of course the school doesn't get any extra places. Sigh. E' proprio un italianata as DP says.

I'm going to ring the SJH on Weds and make an appointment. Not that I can afford the fees, but I just feel I need to hear that DD will get in somewhere.

Brangelina · 10/12/2007 23:14

Ha! I was against ac too until I had to suffer the summer of 2003. My reasoning is I don't drive a car so I'm allowed the odd day of ac (we don't have it on all the time, only when it gets truly unbearable).

I lived in a place with very thick walls too, it was still stifling.... Do you at least have doppia esposizione?

francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2007 23:19

Listen, I must have at least 20 friends who went through the application to asili (comunali though) and I don't know of a single one who didn't get a place... you have to be positive !!! BE POSITIVE!
good idea re sjh. there are also a very few asili privati non religiosi in Milano, one is doremi, which I'm told is excellent.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2007 23:20

yes, doppia esposizione. it backs onto a garden with trees !

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/12/2007 23:38

Yes, but they're in Milano, I can only do Milano if it's Lambrate, and even then it's not ideal. I would be positive if I was still in Milan, the situation is loads better there. I think we have a good punteggio in the graduatoria, but then I thought I had good points for the nido comunale yet we didn't get in. It has to be better at the materna......

Lucky you having a garden at the back, it makes such a difference being able to see a bit of greenery in the concrete jungle!

francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2007 08:28

It has to be. I don't know many people who got a place at nido comunale. some did after the first year at a private one... che casino! apparently bindi (I read it a few months ago) wants to invest can't remember how many euros in the next five year into nidi comunali ap[parently they are non existant in the south... while Emiglia Romagna is the best (I'm not surprised).
yes, it's a beautiful garden. pity that children aren't allowed to play. until the 70s children could play in all giardini comunali, and then they were banned from the majority of them .

I did not even hit the gradatoria with dd for the nido !! As I result not working and we did not have enough points anyway will be trying for a semi private one next year I think. How thigs going ?? We all ok but its busy here dd has had a bit of a hard time napping and early waking but just getting settled in I think. But she is happy and today lovely day !!

francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2007 22:15

she's got jet leg and is too excited to see her granparents!!!. Yes, it is virtually impossible to get a place in nido comunale with only one working parent. but even with both working full time it is not easy, I know the some friends in Milan started off with nido privato, then got a place in nido comunale, but didn't have problems in getting a place at scuola materna comunale.
yes lovely day. chilly but christmassy. going to go watch some reruns of sex and the city

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2007 08:55

Brangelina · 12/12/2007 09:08

at SATC reruns from here too. There is no SATC on Italian TV, so get yourself the boxed set before you move out here.

Got to go to the osteopata for my back this afternoon but have to seriously defuzz my legs, the hairs are so long I have dreadlocks. She rang me up with an unexpected cancellation otherwise I'd have been prepared. I think I'll retire to the bathroom for the rest of the morning and try and sort it out.

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 09:37

I do have SATC dvd boxes (apart from one series), you can come and watch at mine brange!
I also have some west wings, the office, bodies, friends (some) and flight of the conchords. I should get more!!!!
I think I'll need an osteopata as well. I really need to sort my back out, it's pretty bad.
I'd have a 1000 things to do, but I can't bring myself to starrt. ghijsgjhgngnn, mfb.
pippi, glad you had a great day!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 12/12/2007 09:40

Ooh, West Wing.... I've never seen Bodies but read the book, is it good?

Methinks I'll be bringing my laptop round yours on the days I "work" from home

francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2007 09:45

Bodies is superb, I think. It's a bit different from the book as it is set in OB/GYN, so it's even more gripping and angoscioso. it's fab fab fab. I've got only series one. should get the second (it wasn't recommissioned by the bbc, bastards).
