Welcome everyone

Michymama, I'm horrified by your experience in Sicily. I also had a section and got the feeling I had been "earmarked" for one as soon as I arrived but was no way forced to have one. I only went for it because of foetal distress several hours later (won't go into the reasons for it), but still. I wasn't happy about the epidurale either, I get the feeling there's a lot to be learned about dosage in Italy as the intervention rate after epi is very high. After my experience I heard from others who had emergency sections for exactly the same reasons as me.

Brangelina · 20/11/2007 14:26

But on the whole I found the antenatal care here excellent and I was very impressed by the consultorio when DD was tiny.

michymama · 20/11/2007 15:19

I paid for a private gyno with DD 95 euros a visit but with ds used the consultorio who was excellent. He told me to get to uk as soon as he say my placnta was low.
I was impressed by our ped here until recently, but thats another story !!!
Right off to tackle the equivalent of mount everest ironing !!!!

Brangelina · 20/11/2007 15:22

OMG you iron.

got to dash, got a train to catch. Ciao!

Rosa · 20/11/2007 16:22

Looking back tI have to smile. I had the epi but contractions got worse and midwife equivalent said per forza she is 8cm dilated we did it too late !!
Had dd and then they went to stich me up doc said keep bacino down signora - I said 'I would but you have put needle in , you are now passing thread now you are cutting the stitch !!!'. As I had to have a few she waited and I had another 2 doses of anasthetic...So I was floating in teh afternoon I hope they put that on my cartella for the next one ! I found them very good in the hospital and the consultorio excellent - had a fantastic doctor and a spot on nurse who was great at helping with bf problems. Visited the consultorio weekly for about a year !!
Michy mama after your 1st birth you were brave to go for another you do hear terrible things about some hosp in the Uk and in Italy !
Cold cold here.
Michy how about ' we wish you a merry christmas ' Thats easy to learn . Or do you want a carol ? Away in a manger always makes me cry !!

francagoestohollywood · 20/11/2007 17:20

3 yrs ago the bbc (bbc3) made a fantastic series set in an ob/gyn dep in a hospital in northern England. It was very dark and scary, it was called Bodies. here. I think it is excellent. But don't watch it if pg or planning to be so
It's been cold and extremely wet here. As a result my stiffneck got worse and have a headache now.

I have the book by Jed Mercurio, at least I think I have it, was it a book first?
Lots of pregnancies horror stories here, it always surprises me how common they are. Grey thick day today, cooked lots, tomorrow more a chilled day.
sorry, I don't know any Christmas carols, I;ll soon learn I guess.

francagoestohollywood · 20/11/2007 19:30

yes, it was inspired by Mercurio's book, though the main character of the book is a registrar in A&E if I remember well. I read it, and liked it.
I made ragu and apple crumble .

OP posts:
hotHELL · 20/11/2007 19:46

Tu come lo fai il ragu, io lo faccio all'inglese, mi vergogno sempre a presentarlo ad amici italiani. By the way, do you or your kids have a favourite Italian book? My ds loves one by Gianni Rodari 'a sbagliare le storie'.

hotHELL · 20/11/2007 19:48

Mi manca Pippi...

francagoestohollywood · 21/11/2007 09:28

anche a me...
Ds really liked i libri di storie di Roberto Piumini. He also made a cd with a musician, whose name escapes me right now, which is a big fave here. Very good songs, about nonni, beautiful sunny days, wearing glasses, and even cacca (their favourite). It was recorded when touring italian primary schools. It's very good, great use of unusual words, different form usual childish songs.

what's the weather in Sicily michy? I've heard from the Italian radio that it's going to warm up a bit. I think I might suffer the cold more than usual, I get terrible headaches!

OP posts:
hotHELL · 21/11/2007 20:37

lol.
it will be interesting to see what happens to their english, would consider talking to them in english only, for me it would be incredibly weird though. Maybe you could speak it at the dinner table, though i can see lasting for about 5 minutes.

francagoestohollywood · 21/11/2007 20:38

no, I will find something like a babysitter. or take them to the british council twice a week.
Brangelina do you know - by any chance- of someone who teaches English in Milan????

do you get sinusy headaches? i do, and tend to wear a woolly hat, even at home, like now. I look like a tramp, but at least i am warm.

francagoestohollywood · 21/11/2007 21:01

Lol, yes. The worst attack of sinusitis was 3 yrs ago, I couldn't breath for days and had severe headache. the gp gave me antibiotics. Since then I tend to get really congested every time I have a cold and in the last few days I've been having headaches. I do wear a wooly hat. But not inside. Will try.
