DH hates polenta too. What's to hate?

Rosa · 17/11/2007 13:12

I honestly don't know... I lived 5 winters in the mountains and I just could never get on with it unless it was covered in sugo and I could mix it all in. It is like a grainy mashed potato stodge - I prefer the white one that they do with small prawns here but can easily miss out on teh yellow stuff !

michymama · 17/11/2007 14:45

Ciao Tutti !!!
I like polenta !! I make it with sugo and cheese yum !! Have just made a lasagne for 2 moro, should have been canneloni but didn't have enough !!
Its grey, wet and cold here today but I'm snug and warm inside ! C - sections I've had 2. the first one here and was forced elective under general anesthetic and the 2nd was in uk by emergency at 31 weeks and was knocked out for that !! I'd love and 3rd child and will try for a vbac, obviously in uk as here its completly unacceptable.
Did somebody mention sex ?? With DD first born I was a nympho during and after, we had sex about 2 weeks after she was born, couldn't wait any longer, hence DDs being born 13 months later

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/11/2007 19:08

I'll be back in a week. we are off tomorrow. the passport has arrived, thank god! Wish Dh luck for his operation (he thinks he's on his last days ).

ciao.

francagoestohollywood · 17/11/2007 19:35

ciao pippi, have fun and relax. And all the best for your dh's operation. Let us know how it goes .
southern Italy has a record number of c-sections. A friend of mine managed to get a vbac in Milan, but yes, it is difficult to get one...

Rosa · 17/11/2007 19:42

Have fun Pippi pack your warm clothes its freezing here---NO JOKE !!
2 weeks after Michy you were brave I was still suffering from infected stitches !!

francagoestohollywood · 17/11/2007 19:50

I waited weeks. Had a bad episiotomy...

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 17/11/2007 20:43

francagoestohollywood · 17/11/2007 20:47

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 17/11/2007 20:55

thought so.

michymama · 18/11/2007 12:03

pippi not sure where ur going but have fun and good luck with ur dh's op !! Our hospiatl is famous for its c sections, most women have them whether they like it or not !
Its raining here again today !! feel like i'm in uk !

francagoestohollywood · 18/11/2007 19:42

michymama is it a private or public hospital? I was chatting to an anestesista ages ago and he told me that one of the reasons why southern Italy has a higher rate of c section is because people use private hospitals to give birth.
giornata autunnale here as well, but very nice. lots og yellow and red leaves on dartmoor park!

francagoestohollywood · 18/11/2007 19:43

rosa, I think I'll "make" him a book on exeter as well, with pictures of his friends, his bedroom etc.

hotHELL · 18/11/2007 22:20

Some friends with ds of similar age who were moving house let the kid take pictures of his favourite things in his house and the area with their digital camera! And then had the photos printed and got him to fill an album.
We sometimes let ds play supervised with our camera, che foto buffe e interessanti che saltano fuori. Un' idea per il tuo ds?

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2007 10:43

yes, it is a good idea. ds likes to make movies with the videocamera. last time he remade tarzan. it involved him jumping on the sofa a lot and walking like a scimpanze'.

OP posts:
michymama · 19/11/2007 13:31

What a lovely idea taking photos of the house, area etc. My dd who is 5 takes amazing pictures, she has real talent, ds tends to take pics of just bosom area .
Franca its a public hospital in castelvetrano, its AWFUL, like stepping back in victorian times. You have to virtually have the babies head hanging out of you when you arrive for them to give u natural birth. They were rapped ion the knuckles last year for the amount of c sections performed, apparently its classed as a surgical procedure therefore they get paid for it

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2007 13:49

re-hospital: , yes, of course, they get more money! So about the whole health system situation in southern Italy (in northern italy being only slightly better). what's the name of the presidente della regione sicilia??? scary man, imho.
lol lol lol at your ds taking bosom pictures!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2007 13:50

apparently the best rate of natural deliveries is held by Alto Adige... which isn't exactly Italy, iykwim...

michymama · 19/11/2007 14:44

think its cuffaro ??? its a sorry state of affairs here, not just in the hospitals. My friend suffered a miscarriage last year and was made to give birth to the bay (she was about 18 weeks I think) alone, her husband wasn't allowed in a no nurses stayed with her .
Also my tunisian friend had her 3rd a few weeks ago and the midwife said "basta ora ! if not next time we'll cut ur tubes !!"

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2007 15:02

yes, cuffaro [bleurg emoticon]
at the nurse! was she joking? Italians have the tendency to make this kind of joke...
And your poor friend. I had the impression - talking to a Sicilian friend - that it is still not the norm to have your partner at the birth ! His sisters' birthday parter had been his mother...

OP posts:
michymama · 19/11/2007 18:36

yeah, they were kind of horrified that she wanted her husband there, like but he'll see everything !! (so they made the bay with the lights out . It was a shame as he rang me and poor bloke didn't know what to do with himself. When I had DD we didn't know if we were having a girl or a boy (sicilians coudln't believe we didn't want to know, they were like "well how will u know what colour clothes to buy ) and so when SHE was born dh was waiting outside dying to know if he had a daughter or son, they told after about half an hour ..............
I had ds in uk and the difference was unbelievable, I will NEVER have another child here.
I don't take too much notice of italian politics, its so confusing !!! My dh is a huge Peppe Grillo fan and is getting v excited about overthrowing government etc (he's been watching too much national geographic channel on Che Guevara !!)

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2007 19:35

I had ds in Italy and dd in the UK. I found the antenatal care in Italy more reassuring, but I preferred giving birth here in the UK. Yes, Italians like to know what they are having, they are still fascinated with the scanning technology .

Beppe Grillo wants to overthrow the gov! . Blimey ! lol at your dh!

OP posts:
Rosa · 20/11/2007 08:58

My dh another Bepe Grillo fan - And Belusca has started another party !!!
I had an ok birth ok so no epidural on tap like the Uk but I liked being kept in hosp overnight as next day I couldn't bend or walk ! Dh was with me the whole time apart from when they tried to give me epidural which did not work and after I gave birth and had to be stitched up. Only thing is that they do not room in with the babies in Venice but they do in Mestre so maybe it might reach here as well. BUt you can go to nursery when you like - I just couldn't walk there !! I had to have loads of injections afterwards like for next 2 days as I am neg blood and dd is positive and they gave me antibiotic inj ( still got an infection)
Lovely idea about an Exeter book Franca..
Right gotta go have a nice day guys

francagoestohollywood · 20/11/2007 09:39

oh rosa, you must have been in a horrible pain . I couldn't walk not sit down properly because of the episiotomy when ds was born. They had room in at Mangiagalli, but you could also take the baby to the nursery for a while. One night, after having fed him for hours I took him there, as I wanted some sleep. They brought him back after an hour as he was crying already .
A friend of mine had a miscarriage when she was living in Venice and was really "happy" of how she was treated at the local hospital, they also run all sorts of tests to establish what might have gone wrong. (she now has a lovely baby boy).
this morning it rained cats and dogs, even a bit of hail!
right I should go and tidy up the house. ciao!

I had PP grade 4 with ds and he was born at 31 weeks after placental abruption. He didn't breath for 3 minutes until after he was born, they fought for him and for me too. I firmly believe if I would have had him here, in my local hospital neither ds or I would be here today.
Anyway ............ its sunny here today but cold. I had a lesson at asilo privato this morning and they were horrors. Were getting reday for xmas next week but they know jingle bells off by heart, what other carol is there thats quite easy ???
ciao !
