Please trout recipe here this way.
Grazie for the peperonata, following a friends' advice i now add a drop of vinegar to the peperonata 10 mins before it's done. Mi piace.

PippiCalzelunghe · 15/11/2007 20:26

vinegar... yes it makes sense, provero'.

My DD is very similar she def likes to please and hates the opposite. so even when she tries to rebel is normally a very short-lived attempt - she's so worried to be in my bad book, which, like you say Franca, is not necessarily a good thing. she also takes the piss at bedtime like asking to go to the toilet for acqua, wee-wees and po-poos and whatever she can think of a million times - like you hothell I let her win once. she has not realised yet that she can get out of bed (thank god) so she cries but doesn't move and eventually goes off.

dh never loses it either, but that's only because he only experiences an 'abridged' version - grazie al cavolo! he thinks it's fair that sometimes I shout. he always backks me up and viceversa although I do have to remind him to tell her off.

tomorrow DD, DB and myself are going here

francagoestohollywood · 15/11/2007 20:32

I think the sticker chart is actually an excellent idea for the tidying up, will do it. will do it for tidy up and wash of hands.

I do the vinegar thing with the peperonata, but only if it's in bianco (no tomatoes).

la trota e' facilissima and very healthy. preheat the oven gas mark 5. olive oil in a pirofila. trout. if you like put rosemary and a slice of lemon in the trout. lots of olives (the best are the taggiasche) and a tiny bit of water. in the oven for 15 mins. I do this with salmon as well.
you can even make a "bed" for the trout with sauted onions.

bello!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 15/11/2007 20:39

'olives (the best are the taggiasche'... don't tell me that in exeter you have all this choice of olives...

francagoestohollywood · 15/11/2007 20:46

. I usually take a jar with me from Italy (I think sainsburys actually stocks them in its posh aisle, the one where they keep manuka honey... but they cost 3 pounds or something and I don't buy them.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 15/11/2007 20:50

I bought porcini from sainsbury for 7pounds . tesco does them for 4 but I was desperate.

francagoestohollywood · 15/11/2007 20:54

. My sainsburys doesn't stock porcini! Never seen them here in 8 yrs!!! (dh went to scotland once and went for a walk and saw the most beautiful porcinis ever!!!!). Last time I saw artichokes was in 1999 and they were 1.99 each.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 15/11/2007 21:01

ok it was a biggish bag but still not cheap! who stocks porcini in exeter then? are there any italian shops? there must be. I haven't found one near me and that's annoying as I am a big fan of besciamella CHEF . my tesco has really good salame and mortadella though. waitrose even stock prosciutto san daniele alongside the omnipresent parma.

l'm going to watch the mummy diaries and cry

francagoestohollywood · 15/11/2007 21:12

never seen a procino in exeter. no Italian shop. two delis selling some good salumi. I can't find mortadella anymore at tescos/sainsburys. no waitrose, the enarest one is in sidmouth half an hour away. but we have a great farmers market. yummie!

OP posts:
hotHELL · 15/11/2007 22:03

Watched the photo documentary, the mummy diaries sounds very depressing. now dave duchovny in californication!

hotHELL · 15/11/2007 22:40

ah, pippi, to answer your previous question, i think we will stay here if we have another child, even if small.

Rosa · 16/11/2007 08:14

Pippi hope you have a great day it looks a fun place. Did the passport arrive ?
Franca have you some books on Milano that ds can look at maybe see things that he would like to go and do -special for him- Ferrari factory , Milan stadium ( guessing here !!!)
I am a bit this am. Got up- dressed dd, gave her breakfast, put washing out, made ragu 4 lunch, put washing in , got dd swimming bag ready and dh says whay are you not ready to go to the gym??? He had had a shave and got dressed in the time !!
DH and I agree that we must agree in front of dd and back up what the other had said-he is quite good I am the bad one as sometimes I am not 100% agreeing with dh !!
My polpete are a variation on annabel karmels - I use fresh salmon if I can get it in fillets not in tranci as they generally do it here as its too boney. Or I use cod/ plaice fillets or sometimes a bit of all and some tuna for good measure.
Then boil potatoes I tend to do 1/2 pots and 1/2 fish. FInely chop onion and sedano in pezzi piccoli saute in olive oil. Mash pots, mash fish with a fork. Add all three together with a dash of tomato sauce, black pepper sometimes a bit of fresh corriander if I can get it. Bit of an egg to bind. Roll in breadcrumbs and lightly fry when going to eat them or I freeze as is. tend to make lots and then freeze as they are quick to defrost and lightly fry. Careful on teh pots as some can be really sloppy !

hotHELL · 16/11/2007 09:43

Delicious these polpette!
Rosa you have been very busy this am, I have done pretty much nothing this morning, and it might carry on like this this pm.
Beautiful day here in London, but cold. Wonder if Pippi liked Paradise Park, we went some time ago and it was very crowded ,and felt sorry for the animals to be honest. And I am not even a big lover of animals! Also lots and lots of kids eating MacDonalds type food and screaming parents....

hotHELL · 16/11/2007 11:51

Sorry for this question this early in the morning. But do you reckon you feel like having sex more on the days that you are ovulating? It is just my impression? And did any of you have a cesareo? Can't remember the english word, sorry.

Rosa · 16/11/2007 13:19

It is so rare these days that I feel like having sex that I honestly do not know !!!
I had a natural birth and it was ok !

Brangelina · 16/11/2007 13:22

Rosa, you did all that by 9am?!!?? I'd have managed about half by midday. I'm very impressed.

HOt - yes one does feel more like sex around ovulation, at least I do. Unfortunately it often coincides with DP's "luna" period so I don't fancy it with him. And I had a c-section. Why do you ask? Are you thinking of having one too?

hotHELL · 16/11/2007 13:25

I will need to have a csection for medical reasons, i wonder how long before the due date they would arrange it? 2 weeks?

Rosa · 16/11/2007 13:26

Over here it is about 2 weeks before - SIL had one and a friend.
I was being super efficient this morning !!

Brangelina · 16/11/2007 13:31

I think in the UK you can hold off till 39 weeks. Like Rosa says here they do it at 38 weeks max. I had an emergency section which was horrible, but an elective is much less traumatic, or so I'm told. You won't have been in labour for hours so you'll be more rested, among other things, plus I suppose you'll be more prepared for it psychologically and practically.

PippiCalzelunghe · 16/11/2007 17:31

I'm back and it was actually very nice because EMPTY!! There must have been 10 cars. we did not eat there as food was horrible, went to a little pub down the road. animals were actually quite all right, saw the lions and tigers pretty close and even during feeding time, so we all enjoyed it. most play areas are closed but I'd dread to think what's like in the summer as it's not a very big place. indoors play area always a hit with DD who dared go on a very steep slide and banged her head and got stuck inside. poor puppet!

agree about ovulation period although at time coincides with DH coming home drunk (like yesterday)and unlikable so there's not a slight chance - we've now agreed that when this happens he'll now go straight in guest bedroom.

PippiCalzelunghe · 16/11/2007 17:33

ah no c-secction here. A friend had second with elective s-sec due to complication and she said it was fine, although weird as you feel them rustling about inside and a bit of a PITA the time it takes to heal. see the bright side at least you won't have accidents everytime you sneeze or cough !!!

hotHELL · 16/11/2007 19:43

When we went was overcrowded, noisy and pretty horrible. It seems a good idea to go on a wintry day. I agree that the food was phenomenally looking bad. No sign of Franca today!

francagoestohollywood · 16/11/2007 21:11

ciao, I had a busy day. Offered to help taking ds's class to the library for puppet show (very good), then met up with friends, came back home at 6 with dinner go prepare, etc etc.
yes, I think I'd tend to want to have sex during ovulation. had two natural births, but had many friends who had elective c sections and were very happy (for the reasons listed by Brangelina)
rosa, yummie the polpette sound v. nice. the book is a good idea, they know Milano pretty well as my parents live there, but I could make him a little book with pictures of the places he visited and liked, like the castello sforzesco for example... I think I might start tonight .
Brnage, thanks for the tips on babysitters, I'll need to pick up your brain once in Milan, sipping the famous negroni.

OP posts:
Rosa · 17/11/2007 08:09

Oh dear Negroni / Polenta I must try to do something about my terrible dislikes of some Italian staple ingredients....
Its cold cold today and the lovely sunny cold days have turned to a grey cloudy yucky day. DD will be a michelin child with arms at 90 degrees out of buggy as she will be wearing so many layers !
